11 lbs in week 1 wtf??? that’s freakin unbelievable. I can’t wait to see the end of this.
Gus, again just wanted to say that you made incredible progress in one week and the changes in the body comp are very visible. I’m starting day 6 now and I feel great, lots of energy and looking forward to my workout. Since you couldn’t see the pics before I thought I’d attach them. I certainly don’t carry near the muscle mass you have but I do carry the fat ![]()
Couldn’t figure out how to attach them here but they did upload to my profile…
Looking forward to your continued progress…

Thanks Bartl! You stay strong my brother and keep up the good work. Like I said, you have so much heart to keep going with a tough diet and training program with just one knee.
I’m in your corner all the way on this one and I know you will make some incredible progress with your work ethic!

Thanks texmac! I paid for those 11 lbs on Saturday where I felt I was just exhausted. I knew I lost a lot of weight but didn’t know it would make me pay a little toll of energy!
I toughed it out and feel really good now.
That fat won’t be there very long for both of us so just stay strong through tonight and everything else should be cake. Take care Bro!
I’ve noticed the energy drain also. First couple of days I also had trouble sleeping but that seems to have passed, keto-breath comes and goes as does the moodiness.
Have a Happy New Year
Gus – just checking in to say:
2 inches off your waist in one week? DAMN GOOD WORK.
Been following the clinic everyday. You are doing a great job.
Can I ask you a favor – can you explain the NEPA walks a little more?

NEPA (non-exercise physical activities) is just fast walking but no jogging, running, or any other typical cardio.
I alternate between fast walking at the park for 2 miles on the dirt and grass. The other fast walking I do is on a treadmill inclined to 4.0 and a 3.5 speed.
The walks vary from 30 minutes to 40 minutes depending on how I feel but 30 minutes minimum.
I walk fast where I am breathing fast but still able to hold a conversation. And I need my Ipod for all walks no matter what.
I like the walks and feel they add just enough low intensity exercise that will not drain me too much on my low calorie diet.
I tried to go 4 miles but I felt too spent afterwards so I just follow Chris’s recommendations to the book. After all, he did invent the diet and is the expert on it.
No tweaking the V-Diet for me.
Take care E-Loo.
Keeping track of your Clinic thread is helpful motivation in this household…we’re on day 6 of the V-diet. Ok, I admit that I’m a bad person and I eat the two tablespoons of pb on a couple of sticks of celery, lest the lack of chewing drive me bats. At least I’ve been successful on dropping the chewing gum addiction so far.
And then you go and mention Claim Jumper, which I will note does not exist on the east coast…You bastard! shakes her fist
Seriously, you’re doing a kick-ass job. Go team you!
(And now, shake 5 for the day. Whee.)
Stay strong tonight buddy!
Gus, how would you say the V-diet compares other carb-restrictive diets you’ve used – i think you mentioned that you’ve done the Anabolic Diet in the past with good success. I myself am a pretty seasoned ketogenic dieter…I usually do at least one 6-to-8 week CKD / year, and I’m somewhat accustomed to the challenges posed by very-low carb diets for an extended period of time.
Do you feel as though your experience with a similar diet (although clearly not as extreme) is helping you plow thru the V-diet? How about results-wise?..it seems like you’re seeing incredibly better results with the V-diet than you ever saw with the AD.
p.s. did you see my prev question about a “before” front pic? re-copied below…
Gus, when u did your before pics, did u take one from the front that you can post?
In that big thread, there’s only one from the side, a close up of your belly, your legs, then your back. No “front” picture. You should post that side-by-side with your 7-day “front” pic that u just posted today to give us a better look at your progress.

That celery idea did cross my mind but I gotta keep strict.
I miss chewing too.
I love Claim Jumpers. No better place to get giant portions of food!
Must be nice to be able to do this diet with a partner. Keep on track and take care.

I liked the AD and think its a good diet if you are disciplined with carb ups and keep them clean. I never kept clean carb ups and took in way too many calories to get cut.
I am seeing faster results with the V-Diet cause my calories are structured and simple. Plus, everything I’m eating is total quality nutrition. Can’t go wrong eating quality all day everyday.
On the AD, I ate way too many calories to burn fat and I think I let too many carbs sneak in on the induction phase. I just didn’t have too much discipline to keep track of my daily calorie intake since. Plus, my food choices weren’t always the best. I’ll see if I can those pics up.
Take it easy bigtop.
Daammmmmmnnnnnn, Hey man, just checked your stats after 1 week. The amount you lost around your midsection (2 inches) took me a good 17 weeks to lose…and you did it in 1 week…If I could afford the Velocity diet, I would definately give it a try. I still have a good 8 weeks or so ahead of me until i get into single digits bf%…
Good luck with the rest of your tranformation, it takes an amount of discipline only real men/women can handle.

I used to eat at Claim Jumpers when I lived in SoCal, can you say “Portion Distortion” ![]()
Enjoy that meal though, stay away from the bread…

Thanks – that’s really helpful. I am not on the velocity diet but am following a calorie restricted diet (Dr. John Berardi) that recommends lots of lifting but only “light cardio” to avoid muscle wasting. I had been trying 30 minutes at 4 mph/incline 12 but was feeling like it was too much.
That seems a lot saner.
To me, iPods are the miracle invention for fitness.
11 pounds, hotdamn, man!!! That’s awesome. You’re gonna pass my 15 in the second week! ![]()
I’m still eating clean here, preparing for another one soon. Good to see how great things are going for you. Week 2 can be, er, interesting! Take care, Gus…

If I had thousands of people watching my every dietary quirk, I’d probably resist the celery a little easier. ![]()
This is the second time my husband and I’ve done the V-diet, the first time was right before our wedding in September…which was followed by starting a new job and injuries and stress and a surgery for him and all of our progress going thbbpt. This time, we’re a little less chaotic in our lives, and there are no gigantic changes coming at us in the next few months. It’s tough as hell, as you know, but having someone who reeaaally gets what you’re going through is helpful.
Good thing you’ve got such great support in the community, with lots of people cheering you on!
Gus,
Just stopped by to see how things were going. Its funny how we both have similar goals, but have to struggle in different ways.
I gotta say, these past 6 days were SO hard on me. I’m glad I stuck through it, and things are looking up. Its good to hear that you’re doin’ the dayam thang as well!
My family went all out w/ the Filipino food for New Year’s too, man! If it wasn’t for me eating more than I’m used to and feeling full all the time, it would’ve been hard!
Stay strong, bro!
hey man,
great job with the progress, keep it up!
you’re from the bay area? which part ru in?
