Neo's V-Diet Proclamation!

V-day October 23, 2006:

There is something very therapeutic about announcing ones goals. So here I am on the T-Nation site telling anyone and everyone about the start of my v-diet.

First off I would like to thank Chris Shugart, the man crazy enough to come up with such a diet. Then I would like to thank those who have conquered it before me. You’re an inspiration to me and others, please keep posting your success stories. Alright now that the estrogen is out of my system.

Stats:

6’1"
225lbs
Roughly %22+ BF (and sick of it)

Like Chris, I was chubby in my adolescence, unlike Chris I am not a FFB just a FB. So it’s time to make a change.

Goals:

Ultimately I want the physique of Thibs. So I know I have a long road ahead of me. I have done a lot of soul searching and really need to get my bodyweight under control.

Missing Ingredients:

Willpower and Consistency: So here is where the community comes in. This is such a great and supportive community and it’s time to take advantage of it!

Plan of Action:

Get my BF down under %10 and slowly bulk up to gain muscle while looking good doing it. Tired of looking fat and trying to put on muscle.

Thanks!

Day 1, October 23, 2006.

First day on the V-diet. Started getting a little nervous last night. I think I was just worried about failing. Had a little pep talk with my self and failure is not an option. So I bagged everything up and headed to work. Started to have my first shake around 7:15. Went to the blender in the break room and started the prep work. Turns out the blender didn’t have any power due to maintenance. Stared at that thing like a mental patient stares at a blank wall.

Finally figured it out and finished my first shake around 7:45. So my inner monologue is trying to sabotage my diet and all of a sudden I feel a pop by my waist. Wouldn’t you know it the button on my pants give way! No joke! In all my years of owning blue jeans I have never had a button pop. So I am staring at my button thinking Divine intervention!

Well perhaps not but if that isn’t motivation I don’t know what is. After the diet I am hoping to dispose of my 36" waist anyway so at least this is an excuse to buy new pants when I am done.

Actually felt full all they way until 11:15 which is probably due to the binge I went on this weekend. Couldn’t just throw the bad food away. Went to the gym at lunch and drank 1/2 a surge there and downed the rest after. Had a good workout and was feeling good.

3rd shake around 2:00. Went down easy and the flax helped to add some consistency. Right around this time I realized I didn’t chew a thing all day. Felt really weird. I have been eating for 27 years so it’s pretty tough to give that up.

4th shake at 4:30 with 1 tablespoon of Natural Organic PB. 1/2 Chocolate 1/2 banana Metabolic Drive. Man that tasted good. Felt a little fogginess on the drive home but overall doing great.

5th and final shake at 7:45 with flax. Still hungry but will hold out till tomorrow. Took pictures though I am not sure I will post them yet. I knew I was out of shape but a picture really solidifies it!

Thanks for reading! If anyone has any questions or advise please let me know!

Do you have a plan once you finish the V-diet? Oh, and good luck!

Thanks! Yes I am going to slowly transition off of the V-diet and work my way to the Get Shredded diet by Dr John Berardi.
http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1150209

I will couple that with the HSS-100 plan from Christian Thibaudeau.

http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1031781&pageNo=0

Personally I feel like I will have enough fat left over to justify the Get shredded diet. After I work my way down to 8-10% BF I will follow Thibs advice in The Truth About Bulking to gain mass with the least amount of fat gain.

http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1268956

As you can tell I am just sick and tired of being overweight.

Good work putting yourself out there, Neo. This log will keep you on track and probably end up inspiring others as well. Any questions, let me know.

Here’s some motivation for you as you get the ball rolling:

“Thanks to the Velocity Diet, I feel like I have my life back.” Paulette

“I loved the convenience of the shakes. The Velocity Diet was so simple. There was no cooking or food preparation. I knew exactly what to eat. As a bonus, the diet was cheaper than buying food at the grocery store!” Sandra

“I lost 23 pounds on the Velocity Diet. That’s 23 in 28 days. Yes!” Jeff

“My clothes fit better after the first week, which was very motivating. In just four weeks I lost 19 pounds and kept it off. In fact, because the diet took away my cravings for sugar and fried foods, I lost 10 more pounds after it ended.” Shay

“My craving for sweets is gone!” Mary

“I went from a 34 inch waist to a 31 inch waist. My abs are showing more than ever. I got stronger in the gym too! The thought of sugary foods makes me ill now that I’ve completed the Velocity Diet. I have changed my eating habits for ever. I love GOOD foods now and that is all I eat.” Keith Scott, C.S.C.S.

“I was amazed at how much free time I had on the Velocity Diet.” Amy

“Besides the 18 pounds I lost, I loved the fact that after week four I was repulsed by even the smell of greasy foods! I also started craving vegetables for the first time in my life! The Velocity Diet will change your mind and your body!” Kevin

“The fat just fell off. Inches too. I really feel it in my clothes!” Michelle

“I have followed the Velocity Diet two times and lost 14 to 16 pounds both times. Prior to doing the V-Diet I’d lost about 80 pounds and my body had adapted so much that I’d stopped losing fat. The Velocity plan broke my fat loss plateau, big time! It broke many of my bad habits too, like snacking when bored and craving junk food.” Mark

“I lost 17 pounds on the Velocity Diet. And now, months later, I still have no cravings for bad foods!” Dave

“My cravings for virtually every bad type of food disappeared – including my craving for carbs! The sheer speed, convenience, and simplicity of the V-Diet makes it the best method out there to shed body fat.” Dan

“I lost 26 pounds on the Velocity Diet. One thing that was awesome was never having to worry about planning meals, shopping for food, fixing it, or cleaning up after meals. That was one of my favorite things about the diet.” Christopher

“I was skeptical at first, but it was way easier than I anticipated. My cravings disappeared, and pretty fast too. I lost 12 pounds without hunger, without weighing food, and without counting calories.” Roland

“I lost 20 pounds on the V-Diet. My taste for food altered incredibly; junk food and other nasty stuff doesn’t even taste good anymore. I crave mainly healthy foods now. I don’t even need cheat meals anymore since I have no problem eating clean!” Robert

“Before the V-Diet I hated vegetables. The first week after, I ordered two grilled chicken breasts, and two servings of veggies. It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life! From that day on I loved my veggies! I can’t thank the Velocity Diet enough for that, as well as the five inches I lost off my waist!” Chris

“I lost a total of 20 pounds in a month and another 15 pounds in the 30 after the Velocity Diet. People who I hadn’t seen in a while didn’t recognize me right away!” Danny

“I lost 23 pounds in 28 days. The Velocity Diet made me realize the difference between hunger and habit. Before the diet, I’d always felt I had no willpower. Just proving that I could do something like this for 28 days helped. The Velocity Diet helped me realize I have absolute control of my life, and I can radically change it if I truly want to.” David

“After 22 days following the diet, my waist went from a 34 to a 32 and my abs were as prominent as they’ve ever been. My desire for junk food went down too, which I believe has been a big factor in remaining lean.” Stuart

“Today I control food; food doesn’t control me! After Velocity I was able to choose healthier foods and avoid fattening ones. My yo-yo dieting days are over… finally!” Debra

Apparantly not all of it…

Rest assured you’re not that fat. But heavy enough to see some good progress on this diet, especially up front.

Good goal, but keep in mind where you are starting and set some intermiediate goals. I’m sure you have, just make sure they are attainable without having to bust your ass too bad. Creating aggressive goals with unrealistc timelines is a recipe for failure.

Get a couple decent shaker bottles. With the quantity of shakes you’ll be drinking over the next four weeks there really isn’t time to use a blender for all of them. I personally never use a blender, even when putting PB in. You just don’t need it with Biotest products, they mix up that good. If you are using an off brand, I guess it’s up to you.

Yes you could have.

No it’s not.

You should try to space out the shakes a little more. You last shake of the day should go later than 7:45, especially considering you had Surge today. It looks like you went 3-hrs between shakes even with the Surge. On a fat loss plan you can stretch it more than that. Try 3.5-4 hrs between, or keep it at 3hrs and treat the Surge as a meal too. You should try to have your last shake within maybe 60 minutes of going to sleep. That way you’re not starving when you wake up and it will help prevent catabolism. Just a suggestion.

At least wait until the end of the diet and only post in this thread. Keep in mind that you don’t have much of a muscle base to justify pictures in the Physique Photos forum, and also expect to be flamed for cutting first. I won’t flame you, but others will.

Good luck and keep posting daily in your log, it’s a great way to stay motivated and to keep learning. Ask questions too. There are lots of people who have gone through the diet that can help.

What supps are you on while doing this? I assume HRX, but anything else? What brand of protein are you using?

Thanks Chris! Those testimonials are a big help. One of the main motivating factors for me is the psychological change that many have experienced. Emphasis on healthy eating was never enforced when I was a child. My mother and brother were both overweight so I just followed suit. I have really tried to instill the necessity for healthy eating in my children however I need to lead by example. In fact I have always despised vegetables, especially salad, the thought of it invokes my gag reflex. I wish I were kidding! Anybody else on the v-diet feel like they have their own theme music? I keep running around with Harry Belafonte’s Jump in the Line stuck in my head.

“Shake, shake, shake, Senora, shake your body line
Shake, shake, shake, Senora, shake it all the time”

My short term goal would be hitting 8-10% BF. After that I will increase the calories and work on bulking.

Great idea. I do use a shaker a few times a day. I like having the ice chunks in my shake. Makes me feel like I am actually chewing something.

[quote]Couldn’t just throw the bad food away.

I know. This was more or less a joke. I am getting prepared to make a life change so I didn’t put any limitations on this weekend and ate pretty much anything. I treated the weekend like a going away party.

[quote]I have been eating for 27 years so it’s pretty tough to give that up.

So far I would have to agree with you. It has been fairly easy however it’s only day 2 :-(.

Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I missed one shake yesterday just because I wasn’t ready for it.

I am using Metabolic Drive, Flameout, HOT-ROX Extreme, BCAA’s daily and Surge on lifting days.

Being on day 3 myself, I can say there are 3 things important to this diet: preparation, preparation, and - oh yeah - preparation.

If you can, get the travel blender mentioned in the latest V-Diet article. I bought one for work and one for home and they are more convenient than a full-size blender.

Have you supps bagged up for the week in advance. I have an entire drawer full of baggies at work and a tub of baggies at home. It makes it pretty brainless to get your needed supps in.

Word of advice- if you happen to travel regularly. Airport screeners get freaked out when they see small ziplock bags of protein powder in your carry-on. (That wasn’t a good day for me) Consider putting the whole tub of powder in your checked baggage instead.

Hey there!
I am on day 8, and here is my advice. Water is your friend. Try always have a water bottle at hand. W/o it, the hunger can be much more noticeable.

Have your last shake later in the day. I have mine at 9 and I still wake up STARVING. That can’t be good.

otherwise, it really ain’t so bad.

Oh,
and your first solid meal will quite possibly be the best thing in the world other than a triple-mindblowing-orgasm. Not sure tho. It might be better.

Good luck!

Yeah I have a tub of powder at work just in case I forget to pack for the day. Along with HRX and Flameout.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. SL thx for the advise. I have also been drinking a cup or 2 of unsweetened green tea. Which is helping a lot.

Progress so far today.

Took HRX at 6:45. Had my first shake around 7:15 today with flax, Flameout and BCAA’s. Feeling good so far. In fact I wasn’t too hungry when I woke up this morning.

Second shake with BCAA’s at 10:45. Went down easy but I was more than ready to have it.

11:15 Went to the gym and had a good workout. Mentally my head feels more clear. I was able to hold my concentration and get a good pump.

Took my Surge after my workout at 12:45. My wife hates it but man it’s good.

At 2:25 I took my shake with flax and the second half of my Flameout. Feeling really sluggish right now. Also couldn’t help but smell the pizza in the break room. Of course I would walk in when free food is being offered. Didn’t have a hard time saying no. Just keeping my eyes on the prize at this point.

Today is a lot harder than yesterday. I still get a spontanious felling of wanting to stuff myself. One of those “Oh I haven’t eaten today.” Immediately followed by “Don’t you remember your on the V-diet? Oh, yeah thats right.” It’s just a strange habit to break. Thanks to all who’s advise is greatly appreciated. Two more shakes left today.

On a side note. I noticed that the recovery time for my muscles was greatly decreased. I didn’t feel very sore after my Monday workout. Not sure if that is the added protein, BCAA, Flameout, HRX or just a fluke.

im assuming your taking just like Dan John minus the TRIBEX correct? are you taking a multi or fiber tab (might be talking the Benefiber gum for the tab)

The times where I really really really need to chew on something, I make myself protein puddings.

Milled flax seeds+ pp w/ just enough water to make a pudding-like consistency. The flax seeds give it a almost nutty flavor. It makes you drink a lot of water, but I LOVE them. I dont think I will stop eating them, ever, even when I get off the diet. (instead of dessert or an unhealthy snack).

Also, having a spoon in your hand sorta tricks your brain into believing you are eating “real food”.

Have you noticed your sense of smell is heightened?

Yeah everything minus the TRIBEX. As far as fiber supplements I have not needed them as of yet. So it’s just been the flax meal in my shakes.

Not yet…I have noticed that my quit bugging the shit outta me sense has been heightened. Needless to say I was a little grumpy yesterday.

Had my last 2 shakes yesterday. Waited till about 8:30pm to have my last one. That worked out very well. I wasn’t too hungry before bed. I was feeling pretty sluggish yesterday night. I have noticed that I am having a lot more dreams at night. I am not taking ZMA so I am not sure what is causing that.

Woke up today feeling great. Even though my dreams are more prevalent I am getting more restful sleep. I am not even that hungry this morning. I did however miss my Wing Chun class last night on account of work. So I did some light exercises at home to help counterbalance the calorie loss. I haven’t weighed myself yet and I can’t say that I have noticed much of a difference. It’s only the start of day 3 so I am not expecting much at this point.
