One of my pet peeves is people telling me that they don’t have time to go to the gym… I hear it a lot from people in my University… funny thing is, I manage to go 6 days a week and we all have the same curriculum. You can always make time if it’s a priority.
Right on JJ! Those same people will have the same excuses 10 years from now. No time now and no time later.
This is gonna sound kinda cheesy but, whatever:
Gus… I really love your motivation… reading your thread I also noticed that you’re really hard on yourself but, at the same time you’re not critical of others… You really do things for yourself which is really great… you do your thing and keep focused on your goals. A lot of times, other people’s comments (like thinking you’re insane for doing the V-diet) can get in the way goals you set for yourself and you didn’t let that happen… you kick serious ass!
Thanks for the kind words JJ! Training is a personal passion for me and I could care less what anyone else thinks about what I do for fun. I love this stuff and it is so great to be able to control and change the way you look. No one can take your hard work away from you…ever! Everybody wants to look great but very few ever do anything to get there.
Wow, they say superficial? Those same people keep buying stuff to make them look and feel good. You work your butt off to look and feel good 24 hours a day. They wish they could buy your results but since they can’t, they try and cut you down. Oh well, that is their opinion and lives and they can keep it. Be above that crowd and you’ll notice how drawn they will be towards you because you are making the progress they wish and dream about!
You may have done this for yourself but, you also did it for the readers of MWA and T-Nation… when you guys (all the physique clinic participants) stay on track and motivated, that extends to the readers… I guess that was part of the point of the clinic… hehe!
Anyway… great job!
Thanks for stopping by Jennjenn and thanks again. Like I said before, T-Nation members like you are just really cool people who love training and I’m glad to be a part of the Nation!
People also don’t understand that even if you are happy with the way you look, it takes work to maintain your physique. There’s a reason why such a high percentage of people who lose weight end up gaining it back.
That is so true. I made great gains and now all I want to do is make better gains than this. And that is going to take a ton more work but it is just so worth it. I just want to focus on getting better and better. Nothing else.

I see your workout plans and was wondering how long it takes to knock these out it seems like a lot of work to fit into an hour.
Thanks
I can everything done in about 2 hours including long cardio and warm ups. Today was a bit longer since I was trying to regroup between circuits for my leg hypertrophy workout.
Yeah, an hour is not enough for all the stuff I do. Take care Ozzyaaron!
I was more interested in the weights component as I typically warm up for about 5-10 mins then hit the weights for about an hour.
My cardio is 2x cycling for 20mins each.
I was just looking at your weights session and thinking that’d be tough to fit into an hour

Gym was pretty crowded this morning since I went in at 8 AM. I felt the need to sleep in and get some much needed rest

This cracked me up… you went in at 8am… sleeping in…?! :O)
First, congrats on your new physique! That’s a great achievement and you can be proud. I just don’t agree with Chris, your pooch will disappear while you reach single digit BF. I don’t know anybody at 7% with a pooch. So stop worrying about it. You still have some work to do though, so keep up the good work!
I also wanted to ask about your feelings on your new workout, compared on what you did with Waterbury.

Yeah, that’s my sleep in time. I really do need more sleep but I got to get my training in, no matter what.
The physique changes help keep me motivated and going strong.

Thank you Brother! I’m hoping that pooch will be gone at 6-7% BF. I will never have surgery, sauce or any quick fix for my body. I’m just going to keep grinding it out even way past my Physique Clinic to get razor sharp. I made it this far and I have no intentions of slowing down.
I spent two years experimenting with CW’s full body routines and they packed on a lot of muscle for me and taught me how to increase my work capacity.
Coach CT’s program is just great in terms of true bodybulding refinement. The program is one of the toughest I have ever done and the results are solid. There are some workouts I don’t look forward to because of the pain I’ll have to go through but that is just part of the process. The results are what count no matter what I have to go through and CT’s program delivers. My shape has really come out with the NLT workouts.
Gus I just finished my first V-Diet and the training was pretty intense, and I just want to say that I have no idea how you have the balls to do the NLT training. That stuff looks so crazy.
Great job so far Gus, you are really an inspiration!
I was wondering if you’d had your DEXA scan done yet? I had one done recently, and it was about 2.6% higher than the 7 point test done by an experienced trainer. I know CT said that DEXA included all fat, not just the subcutaneous fat.
Could you ask him, or do you know how much higher on average a DEXA scan is vs. a pinch test? For me the pinch test said 9.8% but the DEXA said 12.4%. I wonder if this is normal variance or if it’s usually higher or lower than that.

Great progress, you’re a big inspiration for me.

Congrat on finishing Dizz! I hear you are going to hit it up for a second go around! Now that takes balls! Let’s see those abs pops out after your second V-Diet tour.
The NLT training is some tough training. I’m performing them as strictly as I can and it does kick my butt on a weekly basis.
Thanks for the kind words Dizz, and now you are inspiring people with your V-Diet thread. Right on Brother! That’s what this PC is all about. Much success to your training program A-Dizz!

Thanks Arbitrage! Very kind of you to say!

I have my test scheduled tomorrow. I will of course post the results.

I thought the DEXA scan was the gold standard of body composition testing. Personally, I’m going to go with whatever my DEXA scan says for me. I’m frustrated with the skinfold calipers and am forking over some bucks for my test. Hopefully Chris will chime in on this question.
as I suspected, it says DEXA scans read about 3% higher than pinch tests.
The reason this was important to me, was I also always had the goal of being below 10% (like you.) I thought I’d hit it, then once I got DEXA I realized I had at least 5 more pounds (or several more weeks) left to cut.
All I’m saying is, if the DEXA scan comes back higher than you thought, don’t get frustrated, when most people speak of bf% they are speaking from the pinch tests, so you’re actually like 3% below what ever it says by the way most people measure!

Thanks for the information Arbitrage, I had my test today and it put me at 15.4 percent. I hear you on wanting to get to that 10 percent. This stuff can be frustrating and I’m thinking what I look like in the mirror should be of more importance. But when I look in the mirror, I see a lot of skin that can be tighter and muscles that should be more defined. I want that next level badly and will get there no matter how much I weigh and ideally have my BF at 9 percent or lower.
The fun part is keeping that condition for as long as I can. They say it is easier to maintain than it is to get shredded.
Chris said you may should shoot for 12% bf from the dexa scan. That’s ~ 6 more pounds of fat. If I were you, I’d set my goal to be about 7 or 8 more pounds of scale weight. Thats slightly more than the 3.4% if it was all fat, but there will likely be some minor lean tissue loss. Either way, you don’t have far to go; great job so far, and keep up the good work!

Yeah, I like 7-8 more pounds of fat off me. That would put me at 170 or a little under I think. No worries from me if I drop a little lean mass…that just comes with the territory. Besides, I look bigger than I really weigh with the increased definition.
Thanks again for your input and help Arbitrage, that is very cool of you. Take care my brother and much success to your training goals!
15.4% on the DEXA eh? I guess that goes to show that we cant trust our eyes at all as far measuring BF % goes (unless you’re holding a shoe apparently from what I’ve seen around here). Whats really scary is picturing how you’ll look at 12% DEXA if you’re at 15% now and looking this beastily.
As always man, keep up the good work - you and everyone else knows without a doubt that you’ll reach you goals.
You inspired me to go on the V-Diet in Jan. I’ve known about it for a while, but I was always scared of it. I stated cutting in Jan., and after watching your progress for 2 weeks I said “f___ it” and took the plunge! I was at 198 on Jan. 1 and now I’m at 179 and ~12% dexa scan. (I was 12.4 at 181)
I’ve basically copied your plan since I started, as you were about 2 weeks ahead of me, I did the V-Diet, and then the 2 week transition. Since then I’ve been on a 4 day upper/lower. I’m cutting till next Sat., then starting Joel Marion’s Stripped Down Hypertrophy. I really look forward to eating again!
