Reading through this thread is proof that MDs often do not know what they are talking about. At least regarding topics outside their realm of expertise.
Anal sex is a minority behavior among a minority demographic. The vast majority of homosexual men do not even engage in anal sex. This is in regards to the ridiculous claim that being homosexual leads to a decrease in life expectancy.
Can you do a little better job of convincing me maybe?
I used to work at a music store when I was in school. One of the owners used to play for Holiday on Ice. Pretty much 100% of the male ice skaters in the show were gay, and all of the ones he had known died years ago… from complications due to AIDS.
I’m afraid that’s how statistics work joutmez
Homosexuality itself being a minority is irrelevant to the discussion of it’s correlation to life expectancy. What is relevant is how much of a minority is anal sex in those relationships. I don’t know what the percentage is, but according to the information we have available to us, whatever the number, it is large enough to make a statistically significant impact on the life expectancy of a homosexual man on average.
If I were reporting the results of the study I would obviously not state “that being homosexual leads to a decrease in life expectancy” (because in and of itself, it doesn’t), but I would be able to state the correlation.

That is confounding though, it doesn’t mean it was due to the anal sex but rather the AIDS.
Statistically related but not necessarily causative. Not like it’s a big deal but there has to be a distinction.

I asked my chemistry professor once and he told me to ask a MD because they know everything.
I literally said that exact thing in my post already lol.

Well it has been years since I read a certain scholarly article on the prevalence of various sexual behaviors among homosexual men. I am searching for it now but in this study only 40% of the men interviewed stated that they engaged in anal sex in their most recent sexual encounter. That is a rather significant minority though. Regardless the study does indicate that anal sex is far less prevalent then is thought by the public.
I have had this same debate several times. What I normally say is that gay sex does not necessarily mean anal sex. Meaning that oral sex is the most prevalent sexual practice among homosexual men not anal sex.

You’re a lady yes? I can’t claim to understand homosexual sex drive… But I will tell you this: men aren’t satisfied with just oral. I think it is also not outside the realm of possibility that the percentage of gay men having anal sex is being underreported by self survey samples. But no matter, even if it is only 40%, that’s a very high risk factor for a huge portion of that population for transmitting AIDS. I wish it weren’t so, but it is what it is I guess.
No I am not a lady. I am a man. A heterosexual man.
There are flaws in every study. But according to this one in particular 85 % of respondents stated that only oral sex was involved in their most recent sexual encounter versus the 40% that stated anal was involved.
Regardless my whole aim was to dispel this absurd notion that homosexual behavior would in itself lead to a shorter lifespan. If you choose partners wisely and engage in protected sex then there should be no reason for ones sexual preference to influence the longevity of ones life.

The CDC disagrees with you.
Absolutely, vehemently, frothing at the mouth rabidly disagrees.
So do the nearly inconceivable amount of studies and data that have been compiled on this very subject.

Ah see that’s very different from not engaging in anal sex. If some dude went full butt pirate last night, got a blowjob in the morning, and took the survey at lunch, then he would have answered that “only oral sex” was involved in his last sexual encounter.

Ha! The “country” sounds fine to me! I have a bit of a fear that Japan will be claustrophobic (enochlophobic?) to me.
Montana has a population density of 6.8 persons per square mile.
Japan’s is 836.
Here in the states when I go to a public venue, like say a national park, I’ve found that Asians, especially Asian tourists, in general won’t “give me my space.”

Nail gets hit on la cabeza. (Rusty high school Spanish for the win?)
I’ve been one of 3 people in a large park, and had the other 2 people come and play catch right next to where I was stretching.
I told them to move in a decidedly un-Japanese way.
Japanese tourists in the states are the worst, especially men. They stand 3 abreast, blocking up hiking trails taking pictures. I used to politely ask them to move. Never again. The last time this happened I just plowed into them wearing my ice climbing boots. Which are not light…
