For the past couple of weeks i have had kind of a dull pain in the front of my knee right below my knee cap. Most of the time its nothing painful but it feels almost, sore, when i sit in the car for long periods of time or what i extend my leg all the way forcefully, even when doing this with no weight. I dont know what caused it or what started it.
Yesterday I did some heavy deadlifts working up to a set of 3 and did great, even setting a new PR, with no noticeable discomfort. I went to follow that with one leg squats and lunges and i could barely do one on the leg in question without considerable discomfort, especially at the top when the knee is extending closer to the front of the foot.
Anyone ever experienced this before of have any idea what it is? I have been making solid gains in my numbers for lifts and putting on some good muscle as well but this discomfort has been lingering and it doesnt feel like its actually on a muscle so i am confused as to what it could possibly be.
Very quickly… There is a condition (the name escapes me) when the patella rides slightly higher than it should due to tight quadriceps. I’d undergo a serious stretching rotuine for the quads (and others) and see if that helps.
Also, do you use the leg press? I don’t HATE them but I have seen a lot of knee pain including myself over the years from it.
no i did leg presses years ago but not anymore. I definitely have tight quads and i have SUPER tight hips. although my hamstrings are limber enough i can put my whole hand on the floor.
Is there any kind of stretch you recommend trying…the grab the ankle and pull towards your ass doesnt stretch the quad out for me too well any more .
Squat down as deeply as possible in a squat rack and stay on toes. Grab rack and lean/arch waaaay back. This should be an incredibly painful (ie; great) stretch.
Also, lie on a flat bench off to one side. One foot up on bench, the other off the side on the floor. Reach down and grab the “floor” foot and pull up and back toward your butt. This is like the standing quad stretch that’s so popular but it’s more extreme.
