Overrated Exercises

deadlifts
yeah once your huge and jacked.

but i think the big lifts are great to build up strength that then allow progression to use heavier weight on other bbing specfic exercises.

Plus they are great for CNS activation at the start of a workout.

For me -Treadmill.

People, please stop going nowhere fast. Get outside and run, shoot some hoops. Just do it!

abit off topic… there a texan guy that comes into my work, we were chatting about supps and he was telling me the difference between america and australia. apparently aus is the only country where people can still drink alcohol past 2am. also the amount of violence on our streets is ridiculously high.

he said that to get into a fight in the US can equal jail time. and yet we have the toughest restrictions on supplements. just needed to vent… and your right it is the mentality of those who use machines. the availability of anabolics is high here. and working in the most hardcore gym in melbourne i have people who have less than a year or even no training experience who ask for the gear.

what is it like in the states?
it’s not that violent around melbourne, it depends where you go and the crowd. Go to chapel st - yeah you may run into trouble but even king st is docile, or people are just docile around me?

Yeah I’m with you there!
My favorite is when you see someone circle the parking lot for a space near the door, then they’ll go in walk 4 miles on a treamill…

I hope you’re just joking, because otherwise you’ve just won the “Biggest '09 Douchebag Award”.

word up on the calf raises, my calves have grown from cleans and push presses

cable crossovers are the most Overrated Exercises, but let me elaborate once you have built a ample amount of muscle then they can be a good exercise, but to many 160 pound weaklings skip squats, deadlifts, bench press and do cable cross overs, “Cuzzz they seen it in mens health” or “my bro whos jacked does them”…

What’s with all the hatred of calf raises?

They’re a valid exercise, just like any other. To neglect a whole muscle group just because they get hit with squats is just like saying rows and bench press take care of your arms

If you wanna be a bodybuilder, every part needs work, even calves

I suspect it’s because properly done ‘bodybuilder-style’ calf raises (ie: calf-raises done with heavy weight for high reps) are hard & burn like a muthafucka. So, by figuring they’re done enough with squats or power cleans or ‘ballistic vertical jumps with a medicine ball’ lets the trainer feel that: They’re smart enough, they’re good enough, and people like them.

Forget about the anti-dentite threads, I think a third of this muscle-building site are anti-bicepitists or contra-gastronemes.

lol.

Funny bastard.

SQUATS what a waste of time. I just run a mile everyday then drink my prune juice. MY legs are huge

deadlifts
I agree

Defeinitely not useless, and is a very good exercise, but over-rated by todays TBT generation

its laughable that people think squats build up impressive calves, considering so many bodybuilders struggle with calves and they all squat

I hope you are being sarcastic…

Deadlifts worked wonders for my lower/upper back and traps

to bring out the internal and external oblique muscles(hard to get)For athletes they use this movement for trunk rotation strength and power. The guys your talking about are probaly just concerned about getting those ripped sides, note there is alot of better choices if they were looking to develop some freaky power in that core for rotational power.E-ROC…thats core spelled backwards, the word core i think is way over used and not totally understood.PEACE

i think that hammer strength equipment is overrated… i train at a number of gyms and work at 2 and i see people train every muscle group on a hammer strength or similar ‘machine’. even a tricep ext machine and a bicep curl machine. as if grabbing a barbell and curling is that hard!
AGREE …hammerstrength is way overrated and also most of your machines.

I struggled with my calves (started off at like 14-15 inches, now 17-18) until i started incorporating calf raises into my training.

Squats and sprints were the majority of my program back then (influence of the functional crowd), and my calves were small as ever
