from a bodybuilding standpoint…

deadlifts

yeah once your huge and jacked.

but i think the big lifts are great to build up strength that then allow progression to use heavier weight on other bbing specfic exercises.

Plus they are great for CNS activation at the start of a workout.
i absolutely agree which is why a beginner cant really start on a bodybuilding/hypertrophy type program because they havent built a significant strength base to build from.

even for advanced lifters im not saying that deadlifts are useless, the benefits are numerous and go without saying. i deadlift weekly. its just that much of the “hardcore” internet crowd has adopted this Mark Rippetoe-esque attitude that, when it comes to back development, its the end-all-be-all of lifts and youre a pussy if you dont think so (basically the “dont curl in the squat rack” attitude).

in reality, there are more effective lifts for lat/trap hypertrophy. if you look at guys with big backs they all have one thing in common…they row and do vertical pulls. yet ive seen a lot of guys who focus primarily on deads, and while they might be strong, they often lack significant mass. long winded response but basically im not saying deads are overrated in general, im saying theyre overrated for bodybuilding/hypertrophy purposes.

Deadlifts worked wonders for my lower/upper back and traps
no sarcasm, read above.

abit off topic… there a texan guy that comes into my work, we were chatting about supps and he was telling me the difference between america and australia. apparently aus is the only country where people can still drink alcohol past 2am. also the amount of violence on our streets is ridiculously high.

he said that to get into a fight in the US can equal jail time. and yet we have the toughest restrictions on supplements. just needed to vent… and your right it is the mentality of those who use machines. the availability of anabolics is high here. and working in the most hardcore gym in melbourne i have people who have less than a year or even no training experience who ask for the gear.

what is it like in the states?
The guy who comes into your work is not a credible source. In NY state bars are open till 4am and you can buy booze anywhere (gas station, supermarket, etc.) until 4am and there are no restriction on alcohol purchases on sunday.

yes fighting can lead to jail time depending on the severity, the arresting officer, the judge, and all other variables in between. You can get charged with assualt or you can get a disorderly conduct which is just a fine.

I cant speak for the AAS. I know whole high school football programs in my area have gotten in trouble for coaches givng the players AAS. I know quite a few of the people in my gym use them but i dont think the prevalence is more or less than Australia. A lot of people are ignorant on the topic of steroids. They think that if you just inject it you’ll get huge. They forget that you still have to lift hard and eat a ton.

overhead dumbell extensions killed my elbows after only 2 weeks seem to be much better now i do cable leaning overhead extensions

Tricep kickbacks. /End tread:)

Situps and crunches. Terribly overrated. Better option in my opinion is hanging leg raises.
