Opinion of Bob Sapp

And the money argument is bogus.

And of course I’m less money-and-bench press-accomplished, but at least I know I’ll never ever be a money whore and feed racial clichees like Sapp. [/quote]

It isn’t bogus. Sapp competed on the highest level in two combat sports, and despite his lack of skill as you see it, won a few matches against world class talent while dropping a few to others. In the grand majority of his matches he was competitive due largely to his size and strength- which are skill sets despite your obvious distaste for them.

I don’t see why people are knocking Sapp’s size. Obviously he used his size. Yes, he is a monster who has a six pack at 350.

But he is simply using his genetic gifts to the best of his ability. I’ve never understood why people complain about the genetic gifts problem. Do you think Cael Sanderson or Dan Gable lacked natural abilities to get to where they are? You could train me by the best coaches in the world from the age of five, and I could never reach where they got. And I am a pretty naturally gifted wrestler if I do say so myself. Or as far as bodybuilding goes, look at Mentzer who barely trained and ate ridiculously “dirty” food and still did phenomenally.

You do the best with what you have. That’s all.

Bob Sapp actually gets in the ring and fights. This is the proper forum for him.

And I’ll watch him every time he does. He is entertaining and I enjoy a good freak show. Is he a fighter? yes. Is he a skilled fighter? not really. Is he a dedicated fighter? not according to anyone who has trained with him.

It is reasonable to think that he will still draw a crowd but a stretch to say he is incredibly talanted.

at the same time.

He could kick our ass individually, but at the same time? Lol, he’d gas long before that!

You fucking whine about big fighters all the damn time on here. Quit being a pussy. Brock Lesnar and Bob Sapp are fighters. You aren’t.

Who’s whining if not you and some other guys?

Since some people obviously refuse to read between the lines, I’ll write it out more clearly:

Brock Lesnar has a bright future in the UFC. He is a physically very gifted athlete.
I have no special feelings for him;
I merely had a problem with
a) overestimating his current ability, I still think Heath is overall the better fighter
b) a person who proclaimes Herring earned the mockery because he “dissed” Lesnar (saying incredible things like: this man is not the biggest or strongest fighter I fought, which was correct)

Bob Sapp is a circus freak and sells himself as such. There is no way someone can tell me he is a “fighter”. I consider him a money whore (though I don’t hate whores) and at best, he might be considered a salesman.

If a someone pays a very talented bantamweight boxer and an obese 300 lbs dude (who did some powerlifting and rugby in his youth) lots of money to fight each other, you think one of them would hesitate?

You think the lightweight would look good in the ring?

It has zero to do with fighting sports.

When I step into the ring I even pay for that “privelage” to get beat up, not to mention the countless classes and media I purchased in order to persue that passion, not counting the time, unpaid work (even with kids- I hate most kids) and spent energy.

It all has effectively till this day, brought in zero dough for me whereas Sapp gets millions.

Hm, I wonder if Sapp would be involved in martial arts at all if he’d get as much as me out of it…

I have zero problems with big fighters. Donut, you’re not a dumb guy, what is your problem?

You are bitter. Not good for the soul.

Bob Sapp is an enormous black man.

A Japanese television producer realized that the Japanese audience would go crazy over an enormous black man. The problem, though, is that Bob Sapp is an incredibly bright, well spoken man.

Anyone who has met him in person, as I have, can attest to this. So, he was instructed to “act primal”. And he did. And he made more money because of it than you can possibly imagine. As soon as this “primate negro” persona was established, Bob was basically instructed to do whatever NHK required of him.

This included appearances on gourmet cooking shows where he responded to French cuisine with a series of grunts, ridiculous ads in which he dressed up as a bumble-bee in search of honey, and eventually, as a “freak show” fighter in the world of Japanese kakutougi.

He did a lot better than another enormous black man, Bobby Ologun, did here…and he did it without sacrificing as much pride.

No doubt, as a fighter, he is sub-par. As a person, though, can you really blame him? He saw a golden opportunity and cashed in. If Ted Turner approached you and said “do a bunch of miscellaneous nonsense on TBS and I’ll pay you 20 million dollars” how many here would honestly refuse?

I think bob is a pretty rubbish fighter, but I love to watch him fight as you dont see many guys his size in the MMA, its like a freak show where i shout at the TV “look how freaking big he is!” rather than “that guys got skills!”

My God people I think your missing the point, Bob Sapp might not be the best fighter or most skilled but the man capitalized his moment and basically became a cult figure in Japan, and got paid for it.

You people ever think maybe cause he made so much money in Japan he

  1. does not need to fight any more
  2. does not have the hunger to win

On top of bashing Sapp, you people fail to realize Kimbo Slice is basically capitalizing his moment because once he faces a good opponent he is done.

And another thing, Sapp faced Nog in his third fight, and almost won!!! EASE UP PEOPLE
