You obviously NEVER saw the Sapp fight.
Nog went for a takedown. Sapp lifted him up and could have simply slammed Nog onto Nog’s neck. In vale tudo rules, piledrivers are legal.

I hate ignorant people.
If people have a low opinion of Sapp after reviewing the evidence, I have no problem of that. People disagree on many things.
But you guys don’t have a fucking clue what you’re talking about. Yet you’re talking shit or outright perplexed that Sapp is a known icon in Japan.
As if it’s a mystery why people give propers to someone who beat Hoost (you fools don’t even know who that is), and who would have beaten the #2 HW of all time had the rules been different.

He did slam Nog on his head, didn’t he?
Sapp is garbage as a fighter.
Zero heart. Enough said.

Yeah…been awhile since I saw that fight, but I remember Sapp pretty much throwing Nog through the floor head first.

I think Nog was lucky not to be injured by the piledriver. I am not quite sure if piledrivers were a banned technique in Pride. I don’t know if they even considered the possibilty. The Sapp-Nog fight was one of those K-1 vs Pride fights.
There was not any outcry in Japan(as I remember) about the piledriver being an illegal technique. MOre like awe. Piledriving a resisting HW wold take an awesome amount of strength.
Minowa piledrived(powerbomb?) Filho on Pancrase. That was impressive as well. That was several years back so I don’t know if you can still do that. It would not surprise me if you are still allowed to do that in Japan.
As a fighter; Brutal and clumsy… and honestly i think all the japanese shows and comercials he’s been attending makes him look ridicolous.
But then again, he cashes a way bigger check than me so i’d do the same in his shoes…

He would have had a broken neck, even in the ring.
I’m glad someone at least saw the fight before commenting on Sapp.[/quote]
Your the only moron in this thread.
Let’s see:
Sapp was what, 100lbs heavier than nog?
He did slam him, no broken neck.
He tapped before his arm was even straight.

This is an incredible stretch. He didn’t nore would have beaten an apponent that was 100lbs lighter. Hoost was a fluke and not something that is not incredibly impressive. It would be like Tim Silvia fighting BJ Penn.
Sapp is a terrible fighter with little to no technique.
Bob Sapp weighed 175kg when he first came on the scene. That is 385 pounds. I have seen him as light as 155kg(340). And as heavy as 180kg(400).
I think he was in the 170’s for Nog. Nog was lighter then. So around a 150 pound weight advantage. This sort of thing is possible only in Japan.
I think it was an impressive fight by Nog.
Sapp beat Hoost twice, who was probably the greatest HW kickboxer ever. That can’t be taken away from Sapp.
Career wise though it was not a great career. I think guys figuerd out if they could survive the intitial onslaught and if they hit Sapp in the face they thought they could win. So Sapp probably did not have the mentality to be a fighter. He made alot of money and some of his fights were entertaining.
He probably could kill most human beings. Unless you are at least 220 pounds and hit very hard(Lebanner, Mirko, Sefo, Fujita, Aerts) or have superhuman resiliance(Nog) and of course be a pro, you have no chance whatsoever against Bob Sapp.
Anyone who who’s knocked out Hoost twice deserves respect in my book. He definitely has his number.
And Nog took a ton of damage that fight. Although the pile driver was impressive, I truly felt afraid for nog during the gnp.
As someone mentioned, he has done a lot to prove that size and strength still matters.
Unfortunately, in this arena, you’re only as good as your last fight. I don’t agree with that but many fans of the sport do and crap on Sapp.

Why does this matter in an unlimited weight class?

You’re right. It doesn’t matter because he lost the fight.

Yeah thats what I thought too…seem to remember a mix between a powerbomb and a piledriver. I think Cali’s just disappointed Sapp didn’t lock on the technically perfect undertaker style tombstone J/K.
Oh and of course I saw the fight Cali…Sapps fights are so infamous…even MMA newbs should be aware of them.

While I love the way Cali trys to belittle people by claiming were ignorant enough to not know who ernesto hoost is…I gotta say that to take out Hoost twice is no fluke…who the hell gets lucky twice? Sapp on his feet was incredibly difficult to deal with for anybody with his bullrushes. He had little technique but awesome physical power and that carried him through.
