One Arm Clean and Press

i dont want this to sound like im looking for an ego stroke, but just for kicks i tried to do a one armed clean the other day at the end of my session, and i was was able to get 75 up on my first attempt, i chose that weight only because thats what i was using for my last exercise of the day. Is this a decent lift for a first attempt.

Im a sophomore in college, and im lifting westside right now as im focusing on
strength while im cutting some fat.
Im gonna go for 80 tomorrow and see if my lifting partner will take a pic.

Well, how much do you weigh/age/height?

age 20, 5"10, 192

guessing 180, 19yrs old

not to be a dick , but why did you list your stats?

Was this barbell or dumbbell?

Not impressive at all. But it’s a good start.

try the one arm snatch!

yeah, i know it not great, but i think its just a really fun exercise, the last attempt was with a dumbbell, i did 85 with a barbell last year when i was working at a gym and was just screwing around after work.

I think im gonna incorporate some kind of one arm clean work into my ME lower body days since i think it kind of works for upper back, traps, neck, and it just feels great to take a a big heavy weight and through it up above my head. i’m gonna see what kind of weight i can do tonight, and i’ll get back to ya’ll later tonight. thanks for the input.

and i would love to get 135 on the barbell by the first of the year, sure would make for a nice avatar picture.

Well I’m guessing it’s harder using a 100 pound barbell instead of a 100 pound dumbell to clean it with one-arm, and then press it? Anyone?

wow, I have never heard of doing this one armed!

Someone post a video please.

Don’t worry Ws4 Im impressed =)

just got home from the gym, and at the end of my ME lower body day of Ws4sb, i got 85 pretty easy, but stalled on 90 during the lock out, if i was fresh i know i could get it. Ill try to get a video of it in the neck couple days, but right now the most important thing in my life is eating, so i will get back to ya’ll later.

btw, this is officially my new favorite exercise.

this is a guy doing a one arm clean-squat and press. its the only thing i could find, keep in mind that i didnt do the squat portion of the lift. I just started from a hang, brought it up to my shoulder, and then pressed it overhead.

I have been doing this movement for quite some time since it carries over to strongman for me.

85 really is not good at all, sorry to burst your bubble. It’s a good start though. I have witnessed guys smaller do more.

I routinely do 110 for sets of 8. It’s weird though b/c I can only do 120 for about 3-4.

On Saturday I did a 3" thick 105 lb. dumbbell for 8 easy reps as a demo for some guys, cleaning once and press for reps.

Absolutely.

Many years ago Vasily Alexeyev (excuse the spelling) was injured and could not compete. I guess he injured his left arm because just for the hell of it with his other arm he did a one arm barbell snatch with 240 pounds. Probably around 1980 on Wide World of Sports.
