Speaking of Dexter…
And Flex.
I am frequently amazed by the form these guys use when working out. I saw a lot of momentum being used, a short ROM, and very little isolation from using a lot of body-english. Yet, they are the best developed humans (biggest freaks)in the world.
The only thing I noticed weird about the video was the bad 80’s goth-metal music. Didn’t exactly fit the theme.
Some noob questions:
(1) How is the contest scored? Are there strict criteria (i.e. size, symmetry)? And are any categories given more weight?
Seems like boxing–somewhat subjective.
(2) How does Ronnie win if he has such a big gut? Regardless of the reason for the gut. Would be interesting to see scorecards–shouldn’t he get massive points off?
(3) How much money does the winner get?
(4) Is Olympia the most prestigous? What about Mr. Universe? Others?
So The Blade’s high lats are considered a shortcoming? I always though they made his waist look good. but I have only a casual interest in the sport and don’t really know the ins and outs.
The Olympia is the same every year. There’s no reason to get excited for it. Ronnie will win, Jay will get second, and the same guys will finish 3-11 as they do every year with the orders switching a little so it doesn’t seem like a conspiracy.
I think you are a little hard on Dexter though, he has built a phenomenal body and high lats are easier to look past than distended bellies.

Don’t get me wrong, Dexter is a FREAK, I just don’t see what he has that, say, Lee Priest doesn’t (other than the paper thin skin, but I think once it gets past a certain point it shouldn’t matter). And as I said, he is not completely without distention - at least the bigger guys have more mass to show for it.
Oh, and as for the way these guys train; maybe some of us should try doing it the ‘wrong’ way. Most big guys - not just bodybuilders, but footaball players (both your kind and rugby), heavyweight powerlifters, and heavyweight olympic lifters - seem to apply some momentum with a lot of their movements; and use fairly loose form in their more general assistance movements.

1 - Too long to post here, do a google search for IFBB Judging
2 - Have you seen the mans back? His Legs? Look at a video of him, the gut is the last thing you see.
3 -
Prize Money: The total prize money for the Mr. Olympia contest has increased from $480,000 to $546,000 this year. The money from the Challenge Round ? which will not be included this year ? and last year?s Wildcard Showdown, $60,000 in total, will be distributed among all the athletes. First place: $155,000. Second: $90,000. Third: 60,000. Fourth: $48,000. Fifth: $38,000. Sixth: $30,000. Seventh: $18,000. Eighth: $17,000. Ninth: $16,000. Tenth: $14,000. Eleventh and lower: $4,000 each. (The combined total prize money for the Mr., Ms., Figure and Fitness Olympia competitions is $725,000.)
4 - Yep, Olympia is the big one. I think you have to win Universe to be invited to the olympia.
According to Flex Online and a few other sites I’ve checked out, some people are putting Jay ahead of Ronnie after the prejudging… I just dont see it though.
I met both Ronnie and Dexter at Bodyrock a few years back. I think Ronnie will take it again, Jay second and Dexter top 5.
Nice video. Anyone else find it interesting that a lot of these clips show the pros for just that…show , I was not impressed with the amount of weight being used at all. Maybe the exception were the upright rows. My buddy trains with Darrem Charles sometimes in FL and tell me he trains relatively light.
I know Ronnie trains heavy so what do you guys think? Are there not many pros who lift heavy and let the gear take over or are these videos not showing the real war that goes on off camera?

Jay looks almost darker than Ronnie, what the fuck?
Pics are small but Jay’s chest looks small especially compared to Ronnie’s. Ronnie’s abs still look fucked up as always.
To get the real answer, we need some back pics. That’s where Ronnie has been unbeatable. “lights out rear lat spread” yeah buddy!!

Agreed… There were 700 photos I think in the collection I was looking at, and you had to go 1-by-1, Only every 3rd or 4th pic had Ronnie and Jay side-by-side. I tried to find a good Lat Spread showdown but none were to be had in the few that I saw.
Victor looks pretty good, but do his calves look suspicious to anyone else?
They’ve been looking that way for months. They went from “well developed” to “what the fuck” in one off season. I won’t make any accusations, but I have never seen anyone’s calves come up like that.
