Koing I like your current training much better  Nice job on the gazillion PBs!

I have been bench pressing and doing 1/4 squats and yoga and getting fat for the past few weeks. +5kg :o My quads are growing though! Even with just barely training.

Today I did some light proper lifts for the first time in a while. I did front squats slow and deep up to 70kgx3 and snatched up to 50kgx2 and I’ll see how my hips feel tomorrow…

I’m doing ‘hot yoga’ 4 times a week and it’s too soon to tell if it’s doing me any good. It’s really flaky and new agey but it does feel good and seems to be unknotting me. I can see the big difference or imbalance in flexibility in places like my right hamstring is super flexible compared to my left hamstring and my left hip and lower back is much more flexible than my right.

TheJonty, did you lift this weekend?

Thanks, I’m going to post a session from 8yrs ago about the same date each time I post a current training log to see how my training was.

See if that hot yoga works for you. Got to try something.

Yup. I’ll post something about it later today maybe.

wrist is getting better. I could hold a bar overhead today, but not good enough to attempt anything else, so I did back squats

Back Squat 10 sets of 3 @ 40X0 tempo
95 3/3
100 3/3/3/3/3
105 3/3
110 2

Felt pretty good through all of these, and the concentric range got faster during each set at a given weight, which is why I started increasing. Oly course this weekend which is taught by a national lifter here in ontario (currently holds the ontario record for the snatch in his class). looking forward to it.

wrist is progressively getting better. it is all muscular at this point, so I am continually heating, using the lacrosse ball and stretching the flexors and extensors.

So, it was nationals on the weekend. Had a decent day, nothing too crazy. 130/136/141x in the snatch and 170/176x/181x in the clean and jerk. Cut the pull a hair early on the 141 snatch, think I had enough stank to hit it if I committed harder. The 176, not sure if my legs were weak from the cut or if I spent too long bouncing around in the hole, but I absolutely should have been able to stand up with that. Was going for the win with 181, was pretty happy with how well I racked it but again, disappointed in the lack of leg strength on the day.

Edit: I don’t know what’s going on with embedded youtube videos these days and going right into the playlist (or maybe I’m just technologically handicapped), but make sure the video is “Nationals 2012”

Considering how training was going heading into it, fairly happy with the results. Good enough for a bronze medal too.

Unlucky mate, but 3rd isn’t too bad. It’s where I placed :stuck_out_tongue: but I was last as the other guy that qualified didn’t turn up haha.

What did 2nd, 1st and where did Justin place? DON"T tell me he did you?! :stuck_out_tongue:

1t place was 145 165 in the UK. He doesn’t Jerk so well and has a bunch of injuries. Weighed in about 100kg and he is 20 or 19 I think.

Pull looks really strong mate!

Love the heroics for first mate! That is EXACTLY how I’d have played it  Guns blazing and a gamble

When is your next comp? Mines 21st July. 14 training sessions left.

That’s a solid effort! we were in montreal the weekend before wish we could have stayed to see it. Will be at the next nationals to come check it out!

First and second totalled 316 (141/175) and 315 (145/170). Justin was down in the 94s and took fourth with a 289. Geoff was out with an injury.

There’s a comp in August I might do, but it’s a bit of a drive and I probably won’t go unless we get a couple guys together and make a road trip of it. After that it’s probably provincials in November, might be a smaller local meet in September/October too, who knows. We’ll see how training’s going and whatnot.

If I’m not mistaken, Alberta won the bid so the 2013 nationals will be in Edmonton. I also know that the banquet we’ll be having in Edmonton will kick the crap out of the banquet we had last weekend.

I love the after parties. Watching everyone get drunk is hilarious.

Wrist felt decent enough to try lifting today

Snatched up to 50 for doubles, missed 60 a bunch (just technique issues - no pain)
Cleaned up to 85 before running out of time

Jerks hurt a bit, so I didn’t jerk above 50.

Felt good to get some lifts in again. Wrist will definitely be good for saturday at the course.

I concur. Normally, since I don’t drink and work in a bar on the weekends, I’m generally tired of drunk people to begin with, but athletes tend to find a special kind of rowdy. Makes for a good time.

I literally CAN NOT believe I couldn’t even get the first rep done? I knew it wasn’t going to be great when 150 felt heavy…165 felt heavy as well 182 was poor. I’m guessing I’m still burnt out from the 191 last Wednesday? It was a +6kg FS PB and my biggest single jump in about 2yrs :stuck_out_tongue:
