@Koing: That is a cool idea, to post stuff from the past for comparison. I’d be interested in seeing more of that.
For me, I last lifted Wednesday. I was pretty damn tired and I missed a 375 back squat by leaning forward after an easy 365. Did some dumbell press at 65 lbs x 5, deadlifted 315 for 2x8. Thats it.
Started Smolov last week with a backsquat PR of 315lbs. Last day week 2 toay, hit 295x3x10. Can’t drop weights in my current gym (despite having full sets of colored bumper plates and platforms??) so I am doing Smolov base mesocycle to work on some strength for now.
FS 165 x3 ; omg nearly failed the 3rd rep…can’t remember the last time I had to triple anything less then 170…I think 170x3 on Wednesday and something 165 or 167.5 the following Sunday and hopefully I can take on 180x3 the following Wednesday
Not bad to Sn 120 when I could barely FS 165x3…CJ, Jerk felt heavy, Cn felt sub par

Yes going to start posting old sessions from 8yrs ago LOL
This is my bro’s results from the competition, not sure if the cut hurt him a bit but anyway. weighed in at 103.
Been doing weightlifting for 5 months and squatting for 2 (had a meniscal tear that only allowed him to do power versions off the blocks for the first 3 months).

Not too shabby for his first comp, pretty close to the qualifying standard for nationals (was 258 for the 105s but I think it’s been changed for this olympic cycle). If he had to cut weight why was he all the way down at 103 though? And how tall is he? Seems like he’s got some height to him. In any case I expect to see him at nats next year if he sticks with it.

That’s the plan. He’s 6’3" gonna keep training and see what he can do.

Nice lifting!
That’s a huge improvement over his total from that meet last year - nice work!!

I am just curious if any lifters training here have had bad wrist injuries (ie, chronic hyper extension/sprain/broken)? If so after recovery, have you been able to retrieve the flexability you had pre injury?
Ma bad if this isnt the place to ask, i figured erryone who does oly lifting on T-Nation visits this log.

Wow. 6’3 is awful tall for the 105s. Any plans to eat his way up to the supers? I know I’m only 5’11 and I’ve had at least one coach tell me I’d be [insert eastern European accent] “very strong” if I went up to about 115ish, or even more.

I have never broken my wrist, but about a year ago I wasn’t thinking and flicked my wrist as I dropped one of my snatches and it really screwed up left wrist. Nothing was broken but I’m guessing there was some damage to either the ligaments or a cartilage tear but I never got it checked out (read: no health insurance). I stopped doing the actual lifts for almost a year now and just focused on pulls since my wrist couldn’t handle extension as there was a lot of pain. It’s gotten better (finally) but there’s still some pain even when I’m not lifting these days.
Also I have a question for the people here: Has anyone ever gotten a cortisol shot? I’m thinking of getting one for the wrist but was wondering if others has anything positive to say since checking Wikipedia tells me that it’s only a temporary treatment.
EDIT: Sorry if I’m hijacking the thread, I know this is the training log so it was kind of inappropriate of me to reply something unrelated to training.

Cortisol is a short term thing. Relieves inflammation but it has a tendency to weaken tendons…I haven’t ever had it but I know lifters who have, so be weary of taking it. Do you really need it?

He’s still got loads of room to improve.
Weightlifting isn’t his primary sport (yet) he is actually a rugby player (winger, he has crazy toe) so getting too big won’t benefit him in that sense. Maybe if he snatches 180 and needs to step up but i think for at least the next year he can see how much he gains in the 105’s

last year decided to do it on a whim so trained for 3 weeks, then went back to rugby and tore his MCL and meniscus which is a bitch. Decided to do it again this year but could only start late. I told him it’s probably not worth it to waste his time playing rugby in ontario.
Attended Oly course this weekend and hit 100kg for a 7kg PR on my clean and jerk
Snatched all day saturday and tore up my hands, only made it to 66kg in saturday night’s testing (it was put up a max snatch in 5 mins, more of a cross fit thing).
Clean and jerk all day sunday which lead to the PR. I’m pretty stoked. It also looks like I’ll be competing as a 69, since I’ve been weighing in around 70.3 lately.

It looks like he had a good doctor/surgeon!
Can’t wait to see what happens once he’s able to make the switch and go nuts with weightlifting!!

Thanks for replying Koing. Since there’s still “pain”, there’s always a nagging feeling in my mind as I’ve waited out almost a year since consistently training and it’s pissing me off. I use a wrap whenever I do any lifting these days but the pain is still there. I will be getting a doctor to look at it next week but it probably won’t solve anything.
