Just not finding my groove…

I feel like I’ve mentioned this to you in the past, but I had similar issues when I was going to max every single session. I’ve had a lot of success lately taking a couple days a week to do heavy doubles and heavy pulls for triples, although to be fair I’ve been putting a lot more emphasis on my technique lately than I have basically since I started this crazy sport and so the extra reps have been very beneficial in that regard. That’s just what seems to be working for me though, and the cause of your loss of groove could be one of a thousand things that didn’t make it into this thread that I don’t know about.[/quote]

After the comp I’m going to rework my technique on the Sn. Do some stuff from the hang and just take smaller jumps in weights, going up in 10’s. It’s around 100-110 that it goes to sh!t. Bar is more often then not in front.

I think it first started when I came back from San Fran, I was hammering away the Sn then my shoulders got sore and I kept hammering away and it affected the line of my pull as I wasn’t locking out properly over head. And now it’s a bit stuck! Doh! But yeah I’ll rework my shizzle after the comp.

Not good news for today or the comp. Feeling quite rough. I got ill or some sh!t. Some light flu/ diarrhea so that is f0cking great. Going to get meds at lunchtime. I’ll skip training tonight and just rest for the comp. Hopefully I’ll be okay for the comp…

Go as heavy as you can for the day. Don’t go crazy, sasy 5-10kg below what you did the previous day.

What do you do for work?

I guess as my lifts get better it gets harder to go to 100% so that’s a good thing.

I’m a programmer and lately I’ve been doing a lot less straight coding on the keyboard and a lot more stupid drag and drop bullshit and the mouse work is killing me.

debra - i used to snatch every day and i loved that! didn’t always work to max… but felt great doing that every day. cleans i find hard work, though. real grind. the days my snatches don’t feel good tend to be the days i do really well on my squats. guess because i can do the grind even when the CNS is a bit fried.

paperclip - debra sure is strong! she’s got a lot more in her oly lifts yet!

I am sick and I tried to do some snatches and it was pathetic. I got up to 45kg and had to give up. What a waste of supplements too! I thought since it’s just a cold I’d be fine but I guess not lol.

I’m ill also so I think it’ll be best to not train tonight. Just rest and sleep.

Feeling DYNAMIC. Will hopefully be good on saturday. Koing, that sucks mate. Mrs Ache is ill at the moment and I’m fearful of infection, hopefully the mass amounts of Zinc I take will keep my immune system flying!

Sorry to hear that Koing! Get some rest.

I’ve been struggling with consistency in the snatch and the only thing that seems to get things going is doing a lot of 85% on the minute snatches and then moving up. But when I get to my max attempts, I can feel the fatigue and it’s not going to happen. I wish I could get the consistency without having to do so many reps first. When I’ve been at a meet I’ve had a coach giving me the warm ups and the cues and I seem to do great with a lot less reps because he tells me exactly what needs to be thought about the weight is light but on my own it’s a different story.

TheJonty, when you say pulls do you mean snatch pulls and clean pulls? ( like http://cathletics.com/exercises/exercise.php?exerciseID=97 ) I think I should be doing these but I can’t seem to do them. I’ve spent time with a couple of really good coaches trying to get them right but for some reason I just can’t do them.

So I’ve given up on them but now I’m thinking I should try again.

For me, I’ve found this video to be a major help. Those snatch/cleans pulls to knee are really great for ingraining the technique. Makes it pretty simple… from low hip position, extend knees/keep chest up until bar is at knee. Once bar is at knee, bring hips in while guiding the bar to hips with the lats.

That video is awesome!! Love the music too  I’ve never heard of a t-box before but it looks like it would be bad for a bar. Well not with the kind of weight I would ever be using.

Thanks!

you’ve never seen it before??? I figured you would have.

it might be mad for the bar but I’m sure the Koreans have a billion of them, old and new :stuck_out_tongue:

also I find that first Korean chick really hot… maybe it’s just me. but I would do her.

lol maybe I have a t-box in my basement that I didn’t notice  I wonder if I should train to SuperMario music.

I dunno she’s not really my type.

boob wiggle ftw!!! seriously, though, awesome vid.

I’m feeling better each day so hopefully I can hit some decent numbers tomorrow…been smashing down the meds!

Not me man.

Never seen a t row thing like that.

I tried some snatch pulls tonight after snatching. Geeze they suck lol. I was able to go heavier than I expected though, doing triples up to 60kg and the 63kg for a double and a single 65kg (then my hands were raw). Here’s my 65kg. Is that what it should look like? I think the bar is getting away from me a bit. I totally felt like I could snatch 65kg after doing that though

it looked fine in general, but the heavy weight kind of shifted you towards your toes above the knee, as opposed to keeping the balance over the heels. but otherwise it looked good.

Last C&j of today’s comp

Rest of the meet didn’t go very well. Fucked up the Snatch phase again (although it’s going really really well in training). C&J was okay, I guess.

Already working extremely hard on snatch technique :frowning: I don’t want to rely on C&J only for getting new PRs in the total anymore…

nice lift lesfayes - congrats on your PR!

debra - i do snatch (and clean) pulls to shrug (no elbow bend). i’m not entirely sure why (because it seems to me I’d profit more from doing them like you trying to pull it high and practicing bending my elbows to keep the bar tracking close) but whatever. i can snatch pull to shrug 55kg for 4x3 (with straps) and i feel like i could do more… i think the reps are about practicing shifting my weight from midfoot for the start to heel as i’m pulling, though (keeping hips down). that gets the bar moving back towards you off the floor. getting momentum, too. i bet you could snatch pull loads once you get used to the movement. took me a while to get used to it. feels very different with heavier weights (clean pull to shrug where the bar weighs more than me feel really very different - the bar swings back from the floor big time whether i contract my lats or not).

It might just be you, although I can sympathize with that position. Nadezda Evstyukhina? Would smash.

And debra, yes I believe I was talking about snatch and clean pulls when I said “pulls” back up in there somewhere. Although I think that’s been sorted out by now . . .

26/11/11 Northern Open

Was feeling good when I got there, then realised I wasn’t going to be lifting untill 7pm!!! Last time I competed in Mytholmroid I was home for 6. Had some food and had a 10min nap in my car.

Warming up snatches felt rather lackluster. Missed 100 in the warmup room so on the platform.

100 slow but solid, then I had a massive wait, so 103 in the warmup
105x behind
105x1

Clean and jerks
120 solid, said to my coach to choose my next weight but my 3rd was going to be 135 regardless
130, pinned and then BOOM. Best jerk I’ve done in my life
135x just too much on the day

235 total. 1kg Compatition snatch pb and a 13kg comp clean and jerk pb 14kg on my total since May. 5kg short of the English champs, I might get let in on that though. Overall I came 3rd (out of 9) in the 94’s behind two very good lifters. Happy with this, especially given conditions of the day. Here’s the vid.

The bar is getting away from you midpull because youre not pulling hard enough with your back to stay in sync with your leg drive. The legs and back have to work together to open up the hip, if one lags youll swing the bar outward at some point and be forced to correct at extension.

Anyway, I prefer for pulls to be flat footed so that leg drive is emphasized during extension rather than swinging into the bar.

Mate, it’s the CJ that wins competitions

I know your disappointed because that is what drives you to do better. So smash it in the Sn next time and smash an even bigger CJ for a big total
