That doesn’t make the statement relevant though. Jay was Mr. Olympia and I don’t remember seeing him promoting the sport publicly to any degree worth discussing. I do believe Ronnie was actually friends with Jay Leno by the time he quit competing. What the hell did Jay do for the sport that would make Chic say what he did?

Not sure if you actually watched it, but he did a shit job MCing altogether, this was just the stupidest thing he said.

I didn’t watch it, but that doesn’t surprise me.

I am just trying to point out that jay Cutler, while impressive last night from what I can tell from pics, has already had the Sandow in the past and he isn’t exactly some ambassador for the sport of bodybuilding. I am not sure he could even hold an interview that wouldn’t put people to sleep and while Ronnie is known for those videos which may just be some of the most impressive bodybuilding training footage out there just because he’s funny to watch altogether, the same can’t be said for Cutler.

In the end Cutler won, but hopefully no one is truly believing that Jay did a better job at being Mr. Olympia than Dexter since neither one went out of their way to promote it during their reign.
True, but you can’t really expect anybody to outdo Coleman in or out of the gym. The guy did so much for bodybuilding and loves it so much nobody can probably touch him.

btw watch it if you can, its about 2000x more impressive then the pictures.

I also thought Bob Chicerillo dissed him when congratulating Jay afterward, telling Jay “You’ve always been the champion man. Dexter may have had the title, but you were always the champ.” What was that all about?!

I hate to say it, but Dexter has “attitude” that does not reflect well with the general public. A very small minority of fans and people like “attitude”, but the majority don’t like it.

Jay is always the gentleman and acts in a way acceptable to the public. Right or wrong, that makes him more marketable and it fulfills the idealized perception of what champions “should be”…i.e. a media darling that is a good “amabassador” to the sport.

Some people think Dex acts too much like a thug. He’s “too cool” for everyone it seems. The marketing departments within bodybuilding don’t like this.

Still Bob dissed him by saying that, I agree…but I didn’t think it was intentional. Bob was just trying to find a way to praise Jay, and he let his mouth run without going through a mental filter.
When they called out the top ten and called out Dexter at the end, he was the only one that didn’t strike a pose. I wondered then what that was about. I never heard he had an attitude, but I haven’t followed him that closely either. Given that, Bob’s comment makes sense even if it was in very poor taste. Would have been better to share that sentiment in private. Still Dexter looked awesome. Branch looked awesome and Jay looked the best he ever has. I’m not upset with the placings.

The lower the score the better. You are ranked during the round and your total score for the round is then added together. You’re scored in comparison to the other competitors on stage.

BULLSHIT

HOW did English get it PISS OFF

F*ck off to be honest !
Not the first time Dave got the short end of the political stick…

Man, this year really sucked for him, despite him looking fucking great.

DJ looked awesome. No excuse for that $hit. Proportions were perfect. There is always a message behind these things. Joe Weider was conveying something to DJ with that move. F’n politics. I can’t wait for Ron Coleman to blow the roof off this mutha in 2010.

God I love bodybuilding. What an awesome Olympia. Can’t wait to go next year!

Does anyone know where the full contest results are? Or at least top 15? I really wanna see that.

I’m a big fan of Toney Freeman, and I honestly would have put him about Rockel and Victor and stuck him at number 6. And I think he deserved it. To me, his condition looked good, he seemed bigger, and I always enjoy his posing routines.

And for the 202’s, any comments on English v. Henry? I’m not sure I agree with that decision.
I I really felt that Dave should have won, even though people say he wasnt in his best condition, I still think Henry’s physique looked much better that English, the guy just doesnt look as aesthetic as Dave in my opinion.

Agree completely. This isn’t a contest about “who looks better than they did last year”. There is no way in hell Branch should have come in second last night. His proportions are not worthy of an Olympia title even if he looks impressive alone.

Congrats to Jay, but the idea that Dex should have been happy with that placing is ridiculous.
I agree on this, and it proves how judging was more emotional than rational last night. If this wouldn’t have happened Kai Greene would have been placed higher and Branch would have been fighting for the fifth spot with Victor.

It’s that DC training that hold him back maybe if he tried some TBT he would actually see some results and get the jump on english.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm.

They probably let Branch take second to make up for Cutler’s lack of personality/ambassador-ship

I thought it was bullshit, Branch’s upper and forearms and his back just aren’t there with the rest. I like Warren, of course, but come on. You can’t be a Mr. O runner-up without arms and a back, goddamnit.

Kind of happy that Cutler won, to be honest. Like I mentioned sometime at the beginning of this thread, I’m not a Cutler fan at all and had written him off (thought he might place top 5 due to politics though), but those improvements he made… Those changed everything. And he seemed more confident this year, anyway.

I thought that Kai would win after the pre-judging, but I guess he kind of ran out of steam or something… Still, would expect him to be second or third or so. He essentially trumps Cutler, physique-wise… Next year maybe, he has more potential than Jay (though who knows… Imagine if Cutler manages to bring down his waist even further and his backwidth in the rear double bi out more! That could mean several more Sandows…).

Dex… Hmm. I confess that I always found him kind of boring, physique wise. Maybe he’s, dunno, too perfect? Not extreme enough? That being said, he looked great… And no matter whether he behaves like Flex used to or not, he doesn’t deserve to be publicly insulted. Still thought a little more sportsmanship would have been nice on his side, that’d make him look a lot better, too… They all know that the shit is rigged, anyway.

I guess the year he was mr. O just didn’t sell as many supps and mags or whatever… I always hear how people say that the Mr. O should be an aesthetic guy and that Frank Zane is the ideal bodybuilder (Though if you ask me, I think Zane was the first ever figure girl…), and that the bigger guys ruin/ruined bodybuilding.

But just look at this year… Kai already has ten times the fan-base of most other Olympia contestants combined! Cutler coming back with his improvements, Warren’s personality and fan-base, and look how popular RÃ?¼hl is despite him not winning all that much and looking unblanaced…

In reality, the majority of people simply seem to prefer the big guys… Despite many claims to the contrary.

So unless dexter comes in 20-30 lbs heavier next year, or unless everyone else messes up their preps, then he’s done for… Feels like they just kept him around in case there was a not-so great year, as more of a back-up/experiment.
Shame though.

As for wolf… He has the taper, but his individual muscle-shape sucks. He was hot stuff a few years back, but I feel that his chance to be Mr. O is gone now, unless he makes very drastic improvements.

Thought that RÃ?¼hl could have been a few spots higher up… But yeah, can’t really hang with the rest anymore. Too bad. He’s just as cool as Branch, and at least as fucked up, balance-wise.

Heath… Too narrow, yeah, I feel like he’s kind of in the place now where Dexter used to be before winning the O. Many want him to win, but the top guy is just too wide and big for him. Unless the IFBB decides to let the aesthetic guys take next year’s title again to make it all more interesting, then I kind of think that Heath will be around for a long time but never win.

Oh well. They should make Branch Jay’s official secretary or press-relations guy or something… Or better yet, the next Jay Cutler training DVD should get a voice-over from Branch!
That way we get the best of both worlds, physique and personality lol

Hahaha. Nah, he should hire skip for contest prep… Who’s prepping him, anyway?

Interesting song/dance by Kai, too. Kinda felt like he was trying to seduce me during his routine.

I wish they would say/post their on stage weight and height for each competitor.
DOHCrazy wrote:

They used to when it was on Pay per view. I am surprised they didn’t this time. On every old recording I have of the Olympia going back to at least 98, they did that.

The only people who favour Zane/Arnolds physiques are people who have no idea about bbing and have only watched pumping iron. These people probably can’t name 15 or even 10 people in the current line up. Ruhl looks stupid but you gotta love when he is on. I’m glad he competed, probably the last time we will see him too.

Who knows with Heath. I was thinking he might be another Levrone, always coming so close but not quite. But seriously, the guy has been training since 2002…wtf??? Took him, what, 4 years to get his pro card. Who knows what he is capable of with his physique. The commentators mentioned that he probably has the ability to add so much mass the width won’t matter. I doubt it, but interesting nonetheless.

Wolf will probably just be a 5-10 placer from here on…that’s if he fixes his shit.
