I hate to say it, but Dexter has “attitude” that does not reflect well with the general public. A very small minority of fans and people like “attitude”, but the majority don’t like it.
Jay is always the gentleman and acts in a way acceptable to the public. Right or wrong, that makes him more marketable and it fulfills the idealized perception of what champions “should be”…i.e. a media darling that is a good “amabassador” to the sport.
Some people think Dex acts too much like a thug. He’s “too cool” for everyone it seems. The marketing departments within bodybuilding don’t like this.
Still Bob dissed him by saying that, I agree…but I didn’t think it was intentional. Bob was just trying to find a way to praise Jay, and he let his mouth run without going through a mental filter.
Whatever. If he said that it was a pretty fucked up statement.
What’s the typical range of ages for the guys in the Olympia, like Kai, Heath, etc? Arnold was the youngest, I believe, in 1970, but I’m just curious about the ages today. And does anybody know off hand who was the oldest winner?

Dexter has always had some of the best arms in bodybuilding…ESPECIALLY his triceps.
You statement leads one to believe you thought Dex’s tris were lacking at some point. When?
Agreed that he has great arms, but my statement was not meant for you to think that i was saying they were lacking at some point,i was simply saying in my opinion they looked better than last year!improvement on perfection almost. All is well brother.

Well, if I was disrespected as much as he was, I might not have shaking someone else hand as the forefront thought on my mind either.
I’m not saying I agree with that type of sportsmanship, but I can understand where dude was coming from. I would have dropped trow and taken a huge shit on that stage, because that is what him getting 3rd kind of was IMO.
Branch looked amazing no doubt, but not better than Dexter, not one bit.

It was a real fucked up thing to say, but Dex isn’t as popular as some of the others probably for the reasons you stated anyway. I bet Kai Green has more fans and this is his only debut year.
Dex was an ass about his 3rd placing though.

JJ: 533 (or something like that) bench and BW:563 bench, That’s all I stayed for, but I guess in the DL JJ pulled 800+ and BW only pulled 650 or so.
Ben even attempted 600 and almost got it, props to him. There was also Efferding, really hardcore stuff! This is to be one of the thousand reminders for the guys who say that bb’s are weak.
Whites attempt at 600 was close. This little show goes to show how strong BB’ers are. If you saw the comp, JJ didn’t even grip the bar wide, that bar had to travel a hell of a long distance
so?? I’m pretty sure he gripped it where he was strongest.

Agreed, I was just surprised at how narrow of a grip he took
Does anyone know where the full contest results are? Or at least top 15? I really wanna see that.
I’m a big fan of Toney Freeman, and I honestly would have put him about Rockel and Victor and stuck him at number 6. And I think he deserved it. To me, his condition looked good, he seemed bigger, and I always enjoy his posing routines.
And for the 202’s, any comments on English v. Henry? I’m not sure I agree with that decision.

Henry wasn’t as conditioned is what most people were saying, but I was a little disappointed cause I like David Henry, I feel like Mark Dugdale got royally screwed with a 4th place finish, a lot of people thought he had a chance at taking a top 2 spot.

According to that scorecard, Jay just wrecked everyone else. lol. He got straight 1’s. Branch just mananged to nudge out Dexter by 1 point.
Yea, interesting. Jay fucking obliterated. Kai only got Phil by 1 point also.
So 16th = last and Wolf came last. What a fucking blow to the ego.

Speaking of the 202, I was REALLY impressed with the eduardo correa (sp) guy. Damn he looked fucking monstrous.
I wasn’t too surprised that English beat Henry. I mean KE has already beaten Henry this year and they both came in looking almost exactly the same as they had at the NY Pro, aka henry bigger but less conditioned. Stands to reason that the same thing that cost him a win at the NY PRO would cost him here.
I do feel bad for dex, that comment by Bob was fucked up and he should have gotten second. I wish Phil had been on for the prejudging though…Jay was unbeatable this weekend but Phil would have definitely taken second.
I don’t know if any of you noticed this when watching Kai, but his skin/tanning what ever, was WAY too dark. I could not see a damn thing when I looked at his legs, especially in the prejudging. I wonder if the judges had the same issue.

Agree completely. This isn’t a contest about “who looks better than they did last year”. There is no way in hell Branch should have come in second last night. His proportions are not worthy of an Olympia title even if he looks impressive alone.
Congrats to Jay, but the idea that Dex should have been happy with that placing is ridiculous.

That doesn’t make the statement relevant though. Jay was Mr. Olympia and I don’t remember seeing him promoting the sport publicly to any degree worth discussing. I do believe Ronnie was actually friends with Jay Leno by the time he quit competing. What the hell did Jay do for the sport that would make Chic say what he did?

Not sure if you actually watched it, but he did a shit job MCing altogether, this was just the stupidest thing he said.

I didn’t watch it, but that doesn’t surprise me.
I am just trying to point out that jay Cutler, while impressive last night from what I can tell from pics, has already had the Sandow in the past and he isn’t exactly some ambassador for the sport of bodybuilding. I am not sure he could even hold an interview that wouldn’t put people to sleep and while Ronnie is known for those videos which may just be some of the most impressive bodybuilding training footage out there just because he’s funny to watch altogether, the same can’t be said for Cutler.
In the end Cutler won, but hopefully no one is truly believing that Jay did a better job at being Mr. Olympia than Dexter since neither one went out of their way to promote it during their reign.

To be honest he kind of is a pompous ass who thinks hes the shit, even at the expo he was MC’ing some of the events and was always making snide comments about people and boasting how great he is, to an extent its funny, but when you do it constantly it just makes you an ass.
