Not as Fat Guy in a Little Coat

i do some of my lifting at the local ymca, they let any idiot in. parents drop there kids off and expect the ymca to babysit them. we have to get security when they start climbing on the equipment.

just got back from a motorcycle trip.

squats and stuff…

front squats to high box
0x10
135x10
225x6
315x4
405x1
565x1 + 20lbs from last week

front squats paused at bottom
225x6
315x6

bent over rows
0x6
135x6
225x6
315x6
365x4

face pulls - did these seated at a cable curl station. i really like them because i could brace my upper body against the pad and really use some heavier weight

some x some x 3

preacher dumbell curls- reverse curl, then right into hammer curl and finished with regular curl

some x 15 for each curl variation

standing calf raise

stack x 10 x 6

pretty good night. next week 585 on front squat.

sexy. it dawned on me (probably for the 20th time) my issue with front squats is I keep looking in the damn mirror. Tips me forward. Actually just looking in the mirror scares the shit out of me, with a barbell across my neck I don’t get any prettier. Notice in your commercial set up you have the rack in the middle of the room. Nice.

yeah… definitely turn that shit around. get that bar right up against your neck. choke the shit out of yourself and look up.

starting next week i’m going to have to take a big enough breath during the step out to last for the entire rep. i usually take a deep breath before picking up and stepping back with the weight, then exhale and take in another one before the set. the weight is now officially heavy enough to not allow me to take in any air at all. you can see me gasping for air after i stepped back. there was a moment when i thought about reracking it and starting over and then i said “fuck it”. i run the risk of passing out pretty fast in those situations. at least i would have had it on video.

One of my favorite X-Files exchanges, with Peter Boyle as the man who could see how you are going to die:

Clyde Bruckman- “You Know, I’m sure there are worse ways to go, but I can’t think of a more undignified one than autoerotic asphyxiation.”

Mulder- “Why are you telling me this?”

Clyde Bruckman- “Look, forget I mentioned it. It’s none of my business.”

This is one lift where I have been coaching myself but I still keep effen up. Today was helping out a girl squatting (she solicited the advice, this time) and told her to look up, not in the mirror. Then, like a complete ass, I did the same thing with 315. It is not the choking it up part, it is simply the mirror keeps messing me up. I must subconsciously think that a few reps of front squats are suddenly going to make me pretty to look at.

bench and stuff…

Coolnatedawg trained with us tonight. What’s up with these big ol’ boys coming down to train?? VTballa came to train with us at one point and he is also a big tall dude…named Nate. Maybe i’m just a short fuck.

anyway…decided to throw in some 4 board work for the reverse grip bench. i need to get used to handling heavier weight to get my full ROM reverse grip up over 500. i think the 4 board stuff is just what i need.

4 board reverse grip

315x4
405x2
495x1
545x1- went up easy, so i decided to take it up to 585. brought it down a little too high and stalled hard. attempted it again immidiately after missing it and was fried.

next week i’ll be more conservative and go to 560.

decline bench
225x10
315x10
405x9-lost count

incline dumbell bench-paused
140’s x 10 x 2

skull crushers
135x6
185x6
225x6

hammer strength dip machine
6plates x 8
8plates x 8
10plates x 4- couldn’t stay under the knee brace thingy.

standing calf raise

stack x 8-10 x 6

You are starting at a disadvantage because your name isn’t Nate…the truth hurts

Or maybe you just use too much weight when ya squat and it’s just temporarily making you shorter!

Speaking of training with you guys, I’d like to come down again whenever my back finally decides to heal up…your conditioning days look like fun…is it still you Dave and jowee?

come on down hoss. yeah… training days it’s us three. On conditioning day another guy named Bobby comes with us.

Nate was telling me that you got stuck in his glutes… what’s that all about??

My jaw just drops every time I read this thread, Meat…

Big, big, big lifting.

You still doing the ‘kinda diet’ thing?

thanks Man of Steele. yep… i’m following a diet of mostly protein. my carbs are pretty low these days. it took a couple weeks to get used to it but now i’m feeling pretty good.

How low is your carb intake?

Seated Cable Rope Face Pulls
4 sets 6-8 reps… pretty heavy

Preacher DB Curls
2 sets really high reps…

Soooooo I decided I’m not going to continue with this DL program(the magnusson/ortmayer). I just don’t have the desire to do that much before pulling heavy. I’m just going to do what I was doing before and work up to heavy pulls in the 1-3 rep range for a set or two, then work on supplemental stuff. Those keystone deadlifts I was doing before seemed to work pretty well, and semi-heavy or speed pulls against bands, deficit pulls, etc… list goes on I guess.

That 495 DL didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. Just working my way back into deadlifting and it is still feeling a bit foreign and none of it feels light. I feel slow as a turtle too with 385 compared to how it felt before.

Scott is sticking to lifting twice a week, but I’m going to go in on friday and try to put in a little extra work with maybe one shoulder press or some raises, and a bit of hamstrings/low back assistance stuff… then on sunday we are doing our conditioning day… pretty fun stuff. I’m gonna get that 200 lb bag this week!

a buddy of mine sent me the link to this today. I made it onto a Strength Feat Compilation. Not sure if i deserve it, but appreciative just the same.
