Not as Fat Guy in a Little Coat

skwatts- i’m really looking to beat my best front squat of 605. i’ve decided to do some supramaximal work with front squats to a high box. the box is set just above parallel. i’m hoping to get these up to 675. if i can get my body use to stepping out that sort of weight, i’ll get there much faster.

front squats to a high box
0x10
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x3
475x1
545x1 + 50lbs from last time

front squats- long pause rock bottom with no hands
135x6
225x6x2

standing calf raise

some x 20 x 6

collar bones were just a little tender after all of this.

Looking good Meat.

thanks hoss. i’m happy with the progress i’m making on front squats and reverse grip bench.

Crazy front squat. Conditioning hasn’t taken anything from you strength.

My goodness, you are a strong feller.

I did front squats last night and my ABS are screaming. You must have a core of titanium.

Meat, I always enjoy your videos. The contrast between you pressing the 140s and the guy on the next bench was quite amusing.

yeah… the core really takes a beating on them. that’s the main reason i’m doing them to a high box right now. i want the core to get used to that heavy weight again. i’ll be happy as a pig in shit if i can hit 675 to a high box.

it amazes me at how much the human body can take. before i started doing heavy front squats i would have never believed the collar bones could handle this kind of weight sitting on top of them. i’m sure my skeleton must look really funny under an x-ray. i bet i have some strange thicknesses at different places.

i don’t realize just how “thick” i am until i see other folks in the videos next to me. that guy in the vid isn’t really that small in real life. he’s very lean and fairly muscular.

You say “thick” like its a bad thing, which I assure you it is not.

I meant the contrast between the tiny dumbbell the other dude had and the considerably larger ones you were pressing.

Holy shit, that’s an awesome front squat there. Wow.

I would rather not know.

i often look around the gym and wonder why people even bother. the newest thing is to watch the amegos do preacher curls with one hand and jabber on their cell phone with the other. this happens daily.

thanks. i can taste how much i want to get it back into the 600’s.

like i’ve said before- your mouth says no. but your eyes tell a different story.

I too am kind of shocked when I realize how large of a mammal I have become. flying yesterday was interesting.

I have some severe front squat envy going on. Gotta keep building these up.

Funny you mention flying, Pete. At around 205-210, the seats in economy now see much more snug than they used to. I’m starting to feel sorry for whoever sits next to me.

That’s an almost regular occurence at my gym.

Meat I have started doing these as well because I found I have a tendency to roll forward out of the bottom of the squat and good morning it up. Can you fill us in on what other core exercises you are doing that might help me prevent this?

BTW…I agree kimbakimba, the first thing I noticed was the guy doing curls with 30 next to you, I lol’ed…

… few things you might give the guy credit for (1) not curling in the squat rack (2) lifting something other than a big mac (3) no groaning

just saying, might think about BIG old guys need to be role models (steps off soap box)

Meat – sorry for highjack
