damn you bodybuilding forum!!!
I’ve done lockouts with 495 lbs. Does that count as a max bench? I just read that crazy thread over on the BB forum. I’ll stay hidden over here on the over 35 haven.
yeah… it’s my last day of work until summer break and i have zero to do so i thought i would have some fun with those guys. it’s funny how you can take something as simple as “how much do you bench??” and twist it in every different direction.

it’s funny how a lot of bodybuilders get all defensive when you ask them what they can actually lift. they say that they don’t care what they lift as long as they are making progress but they sure do get all worked up when asked. i know, becuase i used to be that guy when i competed in bodybuilding.

i was actually pretty embarrassed of my lifts, especially the bench. people would ask what i could bench and i would say things like- “it doesn’t matter, look at my big chest” but deep down inside i felt like such a pussy knowing that there were guys half my size that were much stronger.

that’s the main reason i switched to powerlifting. i wanted to be able to walk the walk as well as i talked. that’s why i alway say that “big ain’t strong…strong is strong”. i prefer to be big and strong in real world lifts, not just on some plates loaded machine that moves in one set plane in a very limited ROM.

Hell Meat! I dont know how many times Ive heard people in gyms now of days say"I dont want to be strong,I just want to look like I am" I shit you not.Isnt that like saying I want to look like I have a big penis ,But I dont want one. Sorta makes you want to slam your head in the wall doesnt it?
if i had to choose i would definitely go with strong over big anyday. i would feel like you would just be living an allusion. it’s like being big but not being able to walk up a set of stairs without having to catch your breath.

A guy in the gym the other day told me I looked like I could move a lot of weight. I said “Some day!”. That was kind of cool.

On the other hand, I’ve been told many times “You look like you eat a lot”… I never know how to take THAT one… LOL.
hoss… you DO look like you can move a lot of weight and CAN actually do so. i know if someone asked you how much you bench, you wouldn’t say - “well… i can bench 4plates on the hammmerzz strength machine while bringing it down about half way”

shoulders and biceps

warmup- rack pulls just below knee
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x4
495x4
585x1
675x1

strict standing military press
0x10
135x6
186x4
225x4
275x4

standing military pin presses from nose- this is where the bar starts to slow for me on regular standing military presses. these were very tough but i can tell they are going to benefit my full ROM military press

225x4
275x2
225x6

one arm seated dumbell preacher curls
40x6
60x6
80x6
85x6

reverse grip dumbell preacher curls and wrist curls

50 x 20 50 x 40

that’s it.

More impressive than the RGB is that you did it with some Celine Dion music playing in the back ground! WTF is that…really?

Weird but my shoulder and biceps workout doesn’t include a warmup rackpull of 675 lbs. Maybe its just me.

You too?

Great lifting here man.

it’s called commercial gym music. i don’t even hear it anymore.

it’s just you:)

i do them as an overall warmup and the low reps don’t really take that much out of me.

that is amusing. more power to you that you can shut it out.

few weeks back at the bb club we had a decision passed that we each got 10 songs to be thrown into a shuffle on an ipod. This way we weren’t wasting time picking out songs before each lift. Of course, one dude got smart and stated he wanted Rihanna, Lady Gaga, etc. Well, they made it onto the shuffle.

First day of the shuffle one guy went to hit a 740 bench in a single ply shirt. He laid down, got the hand off, and right when he got the press command the song switched to Lady Gaga. Hard as a sidespotter not to start laughing. Dude pressed it to lockout perfectly, racked it, and said ‘what, I like that song.’ Wasn’t his pick, and it was funny as hell hearing an SHW with an awesome beard and even more awesome bench state he liked Lady Gaga.

conditioning work- nothing like picking heavy shit up in almost 100 degree weather and 100 percent humidity. it will definitely put hair on your chest.

anyway, last week we started using sandbags for the first time. we worked up to 150lber, getting it to the lap and then shouldering it and finally climbing this really steep hill. this week we started with a 100lber, then the 150lber. we then tried the 200lber. I never thought i would say this but my arms started aching from doing the heavy preacher curls on thursday. time to drop back on weight on biceps and hit higher reps. I was able to get the bag to my lap, but my arms were aching too much to sling the damn thing up and over my shoulder. hopefully next week.

we then moved on to walking lunges across the football field with the 100lb vest.

after that we did backwards sled drags across the field.

we then finished with tire throws across the field.

level of conditioning is constantely improving. it might be time to up it a notch and start timing ourselves during this crap.

i NEED to get that 200lb sand bag shouldered…

Real world stregth (outside the gym) is so humbling. 200 lbs on the bench, deadlift or even cleaning is a piece of cake for a lot of guys. But a 200 lb sandbag is another story. Did the other guys get the 150 lb bag shouldered?

Wow. That is an awesome reverse grip bench press. I’ve never seen anyone lift as much as that, like that.

^^^ Meat i think you need to add hammer strength Bench to your program

the funny thing is that i use hammer strength stuff but i use it after doing real movements with free weights. i only like using hammer strength stuff when i’ve already prefatigued with real lifting.

I’m too lazy to read the entire log, but that’s some impressive lifting and conditioning on the last 3 pages!

bench night- i wanted to go heavy tonight but my arms are STILL aching. i worked up to 465 on reverse grip and i lost it back over my face. my biceps are too trashed. as a result, i lowered the weight and went for some reps.

reverse grip bench
0x10
135x4
225x1
275x1
315x1
405x1
465xnada- plenty strength but arms are still toast… next week.
315x15- this was my rep goal for these. i think i’m good for 20 plus if i went to failure.

incline dumbell press- only did one set… arms had a major case of vaginitis.
140’s x 12

power kickbacks- these are regular dumbell kickbacks but done with really heavy weight and a little body enlish.

40’s x 8
60’s x 8
80’s x 8
100’s x 8

cable wrist curls
some x some- since i’ve specialized the forearms, i’ve added an inch in a little over a month.
