chest and triceps- decided on reverse grip bench for my main movement for this cycle. my plan is to slowly work up to 500lbs. hopefully i didn’t cheat myself too bad considering i took the bar to my chest:)
reverse grip bench press
0x10
135x6
225x6
315x4
365x1
405x1
455x1- set up too close to the uprights and actually hit the right side twice before i edged it over the upright. next week i’ll move up to 465.
405x4- going to work up to a set of 10 on these.
smith machine close grip incline bench- experimenting with these. i decided to use the smith so that i could really tuck the elbows to my sides to make it mostly triceps. - long pause
135x6
225x6
315x6x3
wrist curls on cable machine
some x some
standing calf raise
some x 20 x 5
good night…felt pretty strong on the reverse bench press.
nice work on the reverse grips. When I do them I have felt my wrists messing with me, need to figure out my grip on these and also use my comp wraps, not my cheap RAWWWWW ones
Oh, BTW, Meat, Steve, to clarify I didn’t say I thought his videos were soft porn, I said I would rather watch soft porn… or something to that effect, really…
And what I find really disturbing is that a comment about sunset walks on the beach gets interpreted as ghey. Dude, Louie says we need to get our GPP in. Walks at dusk are one of the best times, less bugs, get to burn off some of the afternoon excess before you carb cutoff meal, jeeze, nothing in there about man to man smooching, and then it leaves some of you visualizing? now if you can actually visualize two fat fuggers doing it, well, I think there is something in your back yard, or er, closet, that needs to be cleaned or come out. just sayin’

if your wrists are bothering you, be sure to cast them really high up under the last knuckle of the thumb. also, take a little wider grip and be sure the bar is across the palm with the index fingers running along side the bar and not wrapped around. too many people take reverse grip too literally and try to actually turn the hand around instead of just letting it run parallel to the bar.
I finally watched the sandbag video at home last night(cant watch at work). That bag did not want to be picked up. The odd shaped stuff like sandbags and stones can really make you work with minimal weight. Very humbling. Your lungs must have been burning when you got to the top of that hill.

yeah… it’s a totally different feeling. i felt it a lot in the obliques, inner and outer thighs. gonna attempt 200lbs this weekend.

damn you bodybuilding forum!!! [/quote]
I’ve done lockouts with 495 lbs. Does that count as a max bench? I just read that crazy thread over on the BB forum. I’ll stay hidden over here on the over 35 haven.

yeah… it’s my last day of work until summer break and i have zero to do so i thought i would have some fun with those guys. it’s funny how you can take something as simple as “how much do you bench??” and twist it in every different direction.
it’s funny how a lot of bodybuilders get all defensive when you ask them what they can actually lift. they say that they don’t care what they lift as long as they are making progress but they sure do get all worked up when asked. i know, becuase i used to be that guy when i competed in bodybuilding.
i was actually pretty embarrassed of my lifts, especially the bench. people would ask what i could bench and i would say things like- “it doesn’t matter, look at my big chest” but deep down inside i felt like such a pussy knowing that there were guys half my size that were much stronger.
that’s the main reason i switched to powerlifting. i wanted to be able to walk the walk as well as i talked. that’s why i alway say that “big ain’t strong…strong is strong”. i prefer to be big and strong in real world lifts, not just on some plates loaded machine that moves in one set plane in a very limited ROM.

A guy in the gym the other day told me I looked like I could move a lot of weight. I said “Some day!”. That was kind of cool.
On the other hand, I’ve been told many times “You look like you eat a lot”… I never know how to take THAT one… LOL.

sure thing. the old black and white grainy vid is still popular on youtube. from what i remember it looked like that 500lbs pretty much stapled one of them to the bench and the other one was doing his best to row it off. i guess it was ahead of it’s time. modern day training has caught up to the tag team lifting.
