Jowee, that week off before the meet will get you all charged up and ready to go. A large sub and banana split might help as well.

Scott, makes me sick when your bench numbers are what I’m using for legs. I hate you sometimes.
Steve,

I need some of your endurance. tomorrow i’m going to attempt some rep squats against bands… don’t laugh.
Wish I could be there. I’d love to do a high rep squat day with three sick lifters like you guys. Can’t wait to read about the falling on the floor after a set and vomitting in the trash can. Should be a great workout.
uhhhh… my idea of a high rep set (right now) is 10 reps:) i won’t be attempting 20 reps for awhile. my goal with this whole thing is to keep a rep or two in the tank, build up my endurance/ conditioning slowly and to keep my form solid. i’m not looking to injure myself by letting the reps dictate form.

with deads and squats my plan is to do them against bands to overload the top end. i’m starting with a weight that allows for 10 good reps that aren’t easy by any means but definitely not to failure. i’m going to up the reps slowly until i reach 20 reps with that weight. once i reach 20 reps, then i’m going to up the weight and start back at 10 reps. once i get to 455 against bands for 20 reps i’ll take a run at 500x20 with straight weight.
That 500x20 would be sick. I’m hoping to get it for 10 soon.
that would be awesome steve. i’ve focused so much on 1 rep strength, i’m not sure i could hit 500x10. this new plan may help me get more well rounded as a lifter.

naw, but it will help with your eventual career in bodybuilding

i’ve already started my precontest cut. i’m only 600 weeks out…

skwattt night- progressing nicely on the reverse band squats. the way we have them set up, they don’t take any weight off the top and a little over 100 off the bottom. unlike the heavy bands they pretty much deload halfway up all at once. it really makes you keep tight and your form solid.

i set my baseline for the 500 x 20 for squats as well. i decided to use 405 against bands just like for deads. damn…this lift is going to be all about endurance and conditioning. i definitely need to improve mine. i have plenty of strength but the lactic acid set in and i got pretty winded. what do i expect… i haven’t squatted more than 5 reps in forever. the bands make it well above 500 at the top. you really need to stay tight with the bands or they will throw you off balance.

reverse band squat- medium bands

225x6
315x4
405x3
495x2
585x1
675x1 +20lbs from last time

squat against bands
225x6
315x6
405x8- plenty of strength… not much endurance.

GHR- against doubled minis
15 reps x 2 sets

ab rollouts

some x some

i love to skwatt…

you think you’re hardcore???

nice squattin. what’s your next meet?

4-22-10 Deadlifts

Conventional Deadlifts against Mini Bands
6x135
4x225
2x315
1x405
1x475
1x535 +10 LB PR

Hack Squats
10x2 plates

GHR Hyperextensions *barbell on back like a squat
10xBW+35
15xBW
20xBW *Regular back extensions

Abs
10xBW *Leg Raises
12xBW *Situps on floor without legs locked in

Happy with getting 535, feeling as I have lately. Mind just hasn’t been in it, and the way 475 felt I honestly thought I didn’t have a very good chance at 535, heh. It might not have been pretty but I managed to lock it out.

On another note, that second video is of the first time I’ve bled while lifting, lol. I watched the video multiple times, and I don’t see any way that scott could have hit me where I was bleeding. It was coming out of the top of my head, in my hair line. Is it possible I popped a vein there? Kind of scary… no lie, I actually had a dream last night that I had a stroke, heh.

Good times. Not lifting at all until my competition next Saturday, May 1st.

Joweee congrats on the PR awesome lift! Looks like a great place to train.

I noticed that you all are still doing behind the neck presses, these don’t hurt ya? I had to cut them out about 4 years ago. They were causing some serious shoulder pain for me.

And I know about the instantanious head explosion…

lol

Good thread thanks for the inspiration!

i was supposed to be doing the meet with jowee next weekend but i have more important things to do…

i have the circus with my daughter that got put on the calendar without me knowing it:)

i’ll have to check out powerliftingwatch to find one. i’m feel’n really good all around. maybe i have a full meet in me besides all the BOF crap i usually do.

how about you whore???

yep…still do’n them. i’m doing them very light and controlled. i don’t see me going heavy on these at all. i could see how one could easily hurt their shoulder if the weight got away from you. i’m actually doing them to bring up a shoulder imbalance that i’ve had. my anterior delts are a ton stronger than any other part of my shoulder. as a result, i’ve started to have some shoulder pain when benching.

so… did your head just start bleeding?? you didn’t already have a cut?? anytime you bleed when lifting is cool as shit.

thanks hoss!!!

For me right now I have to keep my priorities in check. 1/2 my group is going to APF Seniors in Chicago in June, the other 1/2 is doing the North Dakota meet the following weekend: me, I will be home waiting for my son to be born. I am on hold really until end of the summer/early fall, hope to find a full meet to do by then. Would like to get the geared squatting thing down by then. Ain’t as easy as it looks to go multi-ply:)

i feel you there. lifting is a very distant second to family in my book.

i don’t know how you whores do it. i have a pair of groove briefs that i bought when i tore my adductor. i wore them last time when i squatted and everything felt heavy and i couldn’t hit depth without the shit cutting into my hips. i guess it’s all about learning to use the equipment. i had these huge cuts where the gear was rubbing my ohhh so delicate skin.

Groove briefs are the worst, tried doing box squats in an old pair about a month ago, same deal as you. No wonder only the USPF uses them…

I have had shoulder imbalances for years from all the internal rotation stuff. It wasn’t until Cressey got me doing external rotation movements that it started to get better. I do pin presses from a seated position but the bar starts at the top of my head and more forward. I think if i went behind my neck my arm would fall off.

Yeah that just busted out bleeding. I do shave my head so best I could figure was that I either nicked myself or thinned out the skin there, lol.

Nice trainin’ Jowee… Boss… almost passed coffee through my nose @ “the power of the wife beater compels you”… too damn funny!

Ain’t that like wearing a TapOut shirt?

International Bench Night-

switched things up and went with board presses for this next cycle. i wanted to make these as hard as possible so i went with no lift off, feet up (no leg drive), no stretch reflex (long pause) and totally deloading on the board and letting my air out. these will definitely build power through the midrange to lockout.

4 board press
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x4
455x3

495x2- i slid a bit on the second rep. you can see dave moving really fast to the bar but he kept videoing:)

paused bench- competition pause with commands
135x1
225x1
315x1
405x1
445x1

dips
BW x 6
BW +45 X 6
BW +135 X 6
BW +225 x 3- felt really strong but at the top of the 3 rep i ran out of oxygen really fast and came really close to passing out. everything started to sway back and forth really fast. it’s amazing how fast you burn through oxygen when you are going all out.

behind the back wrist curls
some x some

seated calf raises
some x some

i knew i forgot something tonight… i forgot to do my rep set with 315…damn.

Shit. That bench is amazing. Doing your own liftoff with that weight. You don’t wrap your thumbs around the bar? Looks like you lift your head on each rep.

You’re the male equivalent of Kimba on the dips!

yup - saw the “Passing out head-bob.” How well I know it.
