Very interesting. Never seen anything like it. I pull conventional. Actually, I don’t pull anything right now since I have an injury.

well… if that’s you in your avatar, i can see why you pull conventional:) you definitely don’t have t-rex arms like me. do you keep a training log??
what’s your injury??
accessory day- i set baselines on three more lifts pertaining to the “what constitutes strong” thread. the first was strict standing military press. i had no idea where to start so i decided to go with a BW starting baseline of 250. i hit this easily. the next lift was pullups from a deadhang. i pulled a trap muscle a couple weeks ago doing bw +100lbs on pullups when i dropped for the 1st rep so i’m starting light on these to let it heal. I hit BW +45 x 6. the last lift was strict barbell curl. again… i haven’t done a barbell curl in forever. i decided to start with 135. i hit that for a strict 8 reps. i feel pretty good about those baselines considering for the military press and barbell curls, i haven’t done those in ages.
this is what i did today…
standing strict barbell press
0x10
95x6
136x4
185x1
205x1
225x1
250x1- left a lot in the tank on this one.
pulldowns- warmup for pullups
some x some x 2
pullups
BW x 6
BW +45 x 6- need to start light and work up on these. can really feel them in my pulled trap
BW x 10- long count of 4 at bottom on each rep
seated behind the neck press- just started doing these and i really like them. it’s very humbling considering i’ve worked up to 370lbs pressing to the front.
0x10
135x6
205x4
225x4
165x8- paused behind neck
standing barbell curls- strict
0x10
95x6
135x8- used chrome bar…seemed appropriate:)
ghetto t-bar rows
2plates x 6
4plates x 6
6plates x 6
Nice work, meat. That 315 standing press is well within reach for you, clearly. Hope that trap heals up quickly.

thanks Pale One. i think the curls and the military press will move fast. the pullups…uhhh… that’s gonna take some time.
Yep. That’s me in the avi. I have long arms.
I tore the supraspinatus off the bone warming up for bench at my last meet. Surgery is set for mid-May, unless I get sqquueezzeed in sooner, which is my hope.
I enjoy your vids.
My log:
Hey, what’s with all the curling and reps going on in here?

i started a thread in the powerlifting section titled “what constitutes strength” a guy named Paul Carter came up with a list of lifts with certain weights and reps that is considered the elite of elite for strength. that thread is where i’m tracking my attempt to achieve those goals.

Ahh cool. 500x20 squat and DL would be insane.
Hahahahaha!! Curlin’ in the squat rack too!! Awesome! You are a rebel Boss!
And thanks for kicking me in the ass, your right… Dave is a good mentor and I am not over the hill.

Fun day… really happy with getting 185 strict because I wasn’t really sure if I could. Those long paused pullups were pretty painful on the hands. I’ve done more on seated BTN but should probably just stick to reps after going heavy on the first press exercise.
I did regular bent BB rows for the first time in a while and didn’t feel very strong on them. We have been doing a lot of machine rows and stuff like that, but I think I need to focus on increasing my strength on barbell rows because 1: I think it will have more carryover to my deadlift, and 2: I should have a way of monitoring progress on the bb rows because I think they are more important than just getting a pump from machine rows. That’s my thoughts on it anyway.

Didn’t do much else… like I said before I’ve been feeling fatigue catching up to me and once again didn’t even feel like being at the gym. I could feel this coming but was trying to get this training in before the competition. I haven’t felt like this in a while and it’s crappy timing before the meet. I’m going to do my deadlifts thursday then rest up the entire next week until the competition saturday. Hoping I feel better by then… I will probably rest some more even after the competition. I’ve only felt this run down once before and it took some time to recover from it.
I was going great for a while and after a few training cycles I did those few heavy weeks where I hit 315 and I think 330… I probably should have taken some time off to rest after working up to all of that.
Jowee, that week off before the meet will get you all charged up and ready to go. A large sub and banana split might help as well.
Scott, makes me sick when your bench numbers are what I’m using for legs. I hate you sometimes.

Steve,
I need some of your endurance. tomorrow i’m going to attempt some rep squats against bands… don’t laugh.

Wish I could be there. I’d love to do a high rep squat day with three sick lifters like you guys. Can’t wait to read about the falling on the floor after a set and vomitting in the trash can. Should be a great workout.

uhhhh… my idea of a high rep set (right now) is 10 reps:) i won’t be attempting 20 reps for awhile. my goal with this whole thing is to keep a rep or two in the tank, build up my endurance/ conditioning slowly and to keep my form solid. i’m not looking to injure myself by letting the reps dictate form.
with deads and squats my plan is to do them against bands to overload the top end. i’m starting with a weight that allows for 10 good reps that aren’t easy by any means but definitely not to failure. i’m going to up the reps slowly until i reach 20 reps with that weight. once i reach 20 reps, then i’m going to up the weight and start back at 10 reps. once i get to 455 against bands for 20 reps i’ll take a run at 500x20 with straight weight.

That 500x20 would be sick. I’m hoping to get it for 10 soon.
