248? 248? man, I think that is what Eco’s last date before he met his wife weighed. stronger and skinnier. good work my friend.

Conventional Deadlifts
6x135
3x225
2x315
1x405
1x495
1x585 *video… tied PR
Speed Pulls
6x3x315
Hack Squats *R/P
50x2 plates
Seated Calf Raises *R/P
100x4 plates
Good night. Deadlifts went as I expected. Tied my PR of 585, but it went much smoother than the last time I did it, and my lockout has gotten much stronger. I saw the video on the camera, and from what I saw it wasn’t really a pretty rep, but I suppose thats expected at that % of a max. Bad news is that scott told me something has come up and he wont be able to go to the push/pull next saturday. Dave was busy last night so I havent talked to him to see if he is still going. My gf Loren will be going with me so I will still be doing it regardless of what happens.
Anyway, 315 speed pulls felt like nothing… super fast reps. Those hack squats were rough, plan was to do 100 reps but 50 was hard enough, lol. 100 maybe next time… We have been doing 200 reps on the calf raise but kind of getting used to that pain so we upped the weight and managed 100. Nothing seems to beat doing calves this way, lol.
No more pulling until the meet now. If all goes well I will probably open with 550(I pulled 540 last year) and my 2nd attempt will be 600. Im pretty confident I will pull it and dont want to pull too heavy before attempting it. After 600… who knows, heh.
Video will be up later… not sure if scott has work today… damn govies. My GF has had snowdays off work all week except today she has a 2 hour delay, lol.
Q:Curious about Zerchers vs. regular front squats. Are there advantages? I’ve never tried em
Scott, OP asked this over on my thread and I didn’t have a good answer. I knew you would.

i don’t think their are any particular advantages of one over the other. i feel they should both be done. both place the bar in front of you thus the need for a strong core to maintain position throughout the lift. Zerchers are, IMO, harder because you have to hold the weight and it’s even further in front of you. i like to rotate between the two with different variations so that i don’t get stale.
Awesome wide grip pullups!
I just did my first one (and only one) of those BW only today.

Thanks - that helps.
Good look’in pullups - you using straps on those?

yeah… i use straps. i use a thumbless grip just like my bench. i don’t want to have to think about grip during these. i don’t use them for my BW sets though.

i love them now!!! i didn’t think i would ever grow to love doing pullups.
So, in addition to the “Riding the Line…” thread, I’ve noticed a little bit of creeping in of some BB-type isolation work. You serious about doing a BB comp? What do you think your timeline is on that? You going to hit the heavy goals first?

yeah… actually most of my training is higher reps stuff now. as i’m getting stronger i’m finding that i can’t do two and three heavy movements in a row. for this next cycle i’m only going to do one heavy ME movement and then do equal parts speed and hypertrophy training.
i definitly have strength goals to accomplish before hitting the stage again. i WILL compete in bodybuilding again but not yet.
Great work. so, if I understand you correctly, while you use both the front squat and zerchers, you think zerchers give you more?

zerchers and fronts are my favorite supplemental movements. i think zerchers are more beneficial for deadlift carry over but i can’t really choose one over the other.
So, because of reading your log I tried something new today that I am definitely going to stick to. I tried your whole 2 heavy movements thing today on ME bench day and I loved it.
I worked up to a triple with competition style bench and then a five with paused floor press. I was shot afterwords, I really think this is going to help my progress a lot more than just doing DB bench variations after my heavy barbell movement. Next week I am going to up the weight for each, as I felt like there was some room to move up on each movement, had I taken some bigger jumps once I got toward the top.
Thanks a lot for the inspiration meat!

no problem at all… if you are going to stick to two heavy ME movements i would consider doing some sort of percentage wave over, like, an eight week period.
bench night- starting a new bench cycle for 8 weeks. reverse grip bench is going to be my full ROM variation. with some practice i think i can be fairly strong at these.
warmup-paused bench- full ROM
0x10
135x4
185x4
225x4
275x4
315x4
365x4
400x4
rack lockouts- gett’n pretty good at these.
405x4
495x2
585x2
655x1 + 20lb PR
reverse grip bench
0x4
135x4
225x4
315x4
365x4
405x4-these felt really good. for a moment i thought about moving up to 455. i’ll save that for later.
pretty good night.
