Hey guys. I’m a 17 yr old 5’7" 125lb skinny kid.
I’ve been meaning to put on some muscle for a while but was never motivated enough to actually do anything essentially because I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t just want to show up at the gym with no idea of what’s going on.
However, a few days ago, a friend of mine (named Lee) asked me if I would be his gym buddy. I said it would be great because we can keep each other motivated and so starting this Wednesday we plan to go to the gym 2-3 times a week.
So I started reading up. I found this site and read a whole bunch of articles (there are so many!), especially on diet. I don’t want to go all crazy early on so basically what I’m doing now is drinking as much water as I comfortably can, eating more meals (6-7ish), getting lots of protein, mixing fat and carbs as little as possible, and generally eating more. Is that good for starters?
When I go to the gym on Wednesday, Lee is going to kind of show me around. The only thing I’m worried about is he’s been working out regularly for a while, and he’s still a scrawny little dude (I’d say 5’6" 115lbs or even lighter). Granted, he’s younger than me, but still. Could that mean that he doesn’t work out right?
I mean, if he’s teaching me how to do stuff that isn’t putting weight on him, why should it put weight on me? I don’t know about his diet, but it could be that, since he doesn’t do anything with it.
Other questions I have are - Do I need a post workout drink? Should I be taking supplements? If so which ones? Should I be doing Cardio?
Any other tips you feel like giving me would be great. thank you for taking the time to help me out.
