Hows your military compare to your bench? I feel like my military is far behind with a 165 max to a 285 max
My press is by far my weakest lift (relative to my other lifts). I have no idea what my actual bench max is, but I would guess in the 250-260 range. My Press max is probably around 150 or so.
I need to find the optimal percentage of press/bench to see how close we are
Rippetoe’s article on here a week or 2 ago said to shot for a press that’s 2/3rds of your bench
Damn I’m far behind…
You and me both. It feels rediculous that 135 is my first warmup for bench, yet it’s a heavy set for press. I guess that’s what happens when my first 2 and a half years of lifting were spent benching heavy without ever strict pressing (high school football)
You are basically the opposite of me. I have proportionately a horrible bench press to my clean and press. (155X3 is my heaviest and 150X5 is my most recent) However, my bench might of gotten slightly better from strengthening my lats, triceps, and deltoids.
I got an honest pull up and chin up! Only 1 of each, back to back but that’s the first time I’ve done one in 5-6 years. rest of my workout was blah, but hey. Got one of each to start the workout, one of each after squats before bench, then finished up with band assisted ones (as I couldn’t get more honest ones, I tried).

I was in the same boat with football…but I wouldn’t trade those 4 years for anything

Do you know which type of person you are…either the person who gets strong at example bench , by benching…or you get stronger at bench by training your delts, tris and chest
First time training events in about 3 weeks and made some huge PRs today.
250lbs axle clean press for 3 solid reps.
605lbs 18 inch deadlift for 1 Rep.
310lbs Atlas stone loaded for 4 reps… before today I had onlyr lapped it.

For me if I strengthen the triceps and deltoids my bench goes up, if I just train my bench by itself I don’t get much stronger.
Sorry I still feel I am a beginner since I have never really won a competition or anything and I am still under 200lbs so have along way to go lol. But I will share what ever little I can.
Nice thread, figured I would join in to give myself and others a little motivation. Been fighting some sort of stomach bug past few days, and have lost weight unfortunately. Hopefully training will go well today.
Weighed in at 142 for beginning of new cycle of 5+ in 5/3/1. Hit a huge rep record for squat of 215x12… literally had no idea how many I got, mind just went blank, and kinda freaked out when my spotter told me hah. Also PR on Front Squat for 175x2x5, meant to go for 3 sets initially, but my legs were shot.
Then went on to press 110x8, not bad. Had a BW press of 140 for 1 a couple weeks ago, but now I am heavier… so tried 145 but couldnt quite get it… damn.
Well here goes nothing! Started doing SS 11 weeks ago at 166 lbs bodyweight doing 95 lbs on the squat, 135 on the DL, 85 on the BP and 50 on the military press. Now I’m at 176 lbs bodyweight 205 lbs on the squat, 225 on the DL, 125 on the BP and 85 on the MP. Slow but fairly steady progress…
8 x 120 lbs incline dumb bell press today, think I may have to back off for a couple of weeks as I appear to have aggravated something in the trap area.

ChrisWaddle: is that total or per hand? Cause if that’s per hand DAAAAAYYYYYYUM
Each hand, it’s taken me about a year and a half to get there hitting it twice to three times a week and increasing in small increments. I started with the 60’s just getting 3-4 reps and I’ll say one thing, a log book has really helped and maybe even the fact I don’t really barbell bench. Whenever I do I end up with a very sore shoulder so I decided to stick with something that doesn’t hurt and that I am progressing pretty well on.
If I walked into the gym and for whatever reason didn’t feel particularly strong that day I’d try last sessions weights and go for more reps, or maybe even drop weight by an increment and try to improve weight wise next time round.
215X3 for front squat and 220X1 for front squat (probably could of gotten it for 2+ but messed up my form I think since it didn’t feel right, and put the weight down) and a 175X5 bent over row, along with a BW+65X2 chin up.
Squatted 195 for 12. Supposed to do 20, but I gave up. I guess I should have gone with the 5lb jump this session. At least I still got something out of this.
EDIT: because my ego couldn’t handle the failure, I went out and did another 12 reps, this time of 190.
Fuck yeah! Did a mock meet yesterday to prepare for my upcoming meet in october. Ended up with 315 - 215 - 375, PR on both the squat and deadlift. Im sooo stoked about finally having that 3 plate squat. Oh and 4 plate deadlift coming up in no time
