New PR's

215X5 #10 pin sumo stance goodmorning
245X6 romanian deadlift
bwX
155X7 zercher good morning
bwX7 natural glute ham raises with hands on chest

Are yesterday’s personal records.

250lbs 12" Log Clean
545lbs Deadlift with 100lbs Reverse Band Tension

Friday: 355x1 back squat.
Saturday: 455x1 deadlift (double overhand hook grip)
Sunday: 290x1 front squat (clean grip)

Im 5’11, 190lbs. Have gained maybe 5lbs in the past 6 months but have added a good 50lbs to my squats and about 25lbs to my deadlift.

Id rather have a huge squat than a huge deadlift, to be honest.
Strong squats are what makes the real magic happen.

I’ll throw my recent PRs into the mix.

I hit a 525x1 deadlift and a 300x1 bench last week.

Depending on how I’m feeling today I may try for a 400x1 squat. I hit 385x1 last week but I felt like I had something left in the tank.

overhand hand yates row 185X8
200X3 #3 floor rack lockout
ultra wide grip weighted pull ups 40X12
hang snatch high pull 135X8
Are today’s.

Got a couple new PR’s lately:

Deadlift 295x10 (getting close to that 4 plate deadlift!!)
Military press 135x3 (could barely do 1 last month)
Squat 325x1 (10lb PR, was stuck at 315 for a looong time)

Doing Dan John’s Barbell Complex #1 with 115 lbs… And it felt EASY even though I’ve never had this much weight overhead before.
185x10 squat followed by 185x7 a minute later. Mass Made Simple is amazing.

210X6 narrow stance zercher squat
natural glute ham raise with hands/arms on back bwX3
zercher holds/walk out 265X30 seconds Are today’s.

tuesday: 185lb reverse grip incline bench
wednesday: 365lb back squat

thursday: 215lb flat bench.

Yeah thats seriously all i can bench.

It is currently being given more attention.

138.5 LBs body weight today.

There are some well above beginner weights being thrown around in here. 400+ squats and deads. Few 300+ benches too.

175X3 floor press
170X8 dead hang wide grip row
50X7 weight neutral grip pull up
100X8 wide grip bradford press
180X6 #2 floor rack lockout are today’s.

Do you do a chest/back split?

My training is a upper/lower westside barbell type split. (one max effort upper, and lower, and one dynamic effort upper and lower)

Been a while since I was here…
But, BW pullups X16 and DB rows 80X10

Yesterday: 185x15 squat with a few in the tank

Can’t say I would necessarily agree with that. The weights you lift depend on many factors: body shape/size, technique, the amount of strength possessed at the outset of training, diet, etc. IMO, “beginner” more appropriately refers to level of knowledge about training/competing, as well as time spent (i.e. experience) in training and competing.

I definitely don’t think a 400lb deadlift is above a beginner level for the “average” young male lifter, either. Out of the 6+ male newbie lifters that have joined my school’s powerlifting club in Sept (all of us are on the smaller side), at least 2 have reached 400+ deads. Which brings me to my PR:

5x170kg from about a 1 inch deficit, followed by 1x185kg.

Sumo stance good morning off of #10 pin 235X3
behind back #1 rack pull 285X6
romanian deadlift 250X6
natural glute ham raise arms/hands on back bwX6

Are today’s. I also did my first extremely controlled negative of a natural glute ham raise with a straight torso.

Level of knowledge or diet, body shape etc doesn’t make you a beginner when the topic is weights moved. Well done to your school for having some blokes moving some good weight. Whilst you’re a beginner in that you haven’t been lifting long, that doesnt take away from the fact you’re moving some good weight.

It looks like I fall above your arbitrary non-beginner numbers but I thought this was for beginner PRs, not PRs with a maximum weight allowed. Not all beginners are created equal. I’ve been lifting for 10 months, and while I’ve made a lot of progress during that time, I still consider myself a novice when it comes to weight training. Besides, I thought the main point of this thread was for all beginners to share their victories with each other regardless of level.
