Never Walk Alone

masch - sweet!

burrows into desk for more studying

Skye!!! How you doing mama? How’s the lifting going? Are you still warrior-ing it? So many questions!!!

And yes, I did watch the Barca game! Watched it twice actually! Simply incredible. Barca is beyond amazing! Genius. Madrid got pwned, had no chance really. And the first Xavi goal? Stunning. Actually every goal was sheer brilliance. And its not like Madrid are some shite team, they’re formidable opponents and yet 5-Nil! So much Ronaldo pouting and Ramos getting all hot-headed…loved it! And now Sir Alex Fergusson wants Guardiola to come over to the EPL and take over management - but I don’t think it’ll work. The English league lacks the finesse of the Barca game. Its apples and oranges really.

DCA - thanks for popping by! We’ll keep an eye on each other. Lol!

KMC, shorts over sweats makes sense! Thanks re: the form critique. I realize now that my form is off - all sorts of off! But i’m working on it and I’ll keep you in mind. Cool on the O-lifts! I’ll check out your log and see what you got going.

Andy - Thanks cutie! slaps ruler on desk Now get back to work.

That’s great that you enjoyed the new gym, and fantastic work on the snatches! I can snatch a kettlebell or dumbell but I can’t seem to get my head (or body) around a barbell snatch. It’s a pretty complex move, so I’m impressed you’ve listed so much on the first session.

Hey guys!

Quick update:

I am training! Actually, I’m training lots. Life is crazy though (in a good way), so I don’t have too much time to get on the interwebs.

Cal, thanks!! I have a feeling that the first day was a bit of a fluke though because the next training session I had with coaches they only worked me up to 20kgs and I spent the majority of the time snatching from a dead hang. Its all form, form, form! Killer. Anyways, I now have muscles and doms in areas that I didn’t even know existed, like right between my middle delts and biceps - wtf?!

I also get the feeling that I’ve become a bit of guinea pig for these coaches and they’re super excited to be working with me. So I’m really happy about this. Mostly because I take well to being coached and I’m always seeking approval. Typical.

Anyways, my Oly shoes are being delivered next week. Yay!

I’m also still training one day lower body - mostly accessory for the Oly. And one day upper body. I don’t want my pullups to go to the wayside. I’ve also incorporated 2 days of conditioning and soccer work, plus one day of pilates. So I’m basically training all week! I think I have a nice balance though, so hopefully I won’t get burnt out. I’m not maxing on anything, so it shouldn’t be a problem. Plus i’ve upped my carbs and I’m maintaing calories in order to fuel all this - as well as getting my sleep.

My PT suggested I do other things aside from lifting like yoga…sigh…I think I have a DVD here somewhere, so maybe I can do some of that girly shit in the AM or something…not a big fan of yoga, but it will probably do me good.

Finally, I’m planning on playing in tomorrow’s game! YAY! Maybe just the first half, as it will be cold - but I mean, its the last game of the season…it would be so sweet to get one last goal

Happy lifting everyone!!

Mornin Masch - glad to know your enthusiasm is still on  You almost make me want to do Oly lifts. But first things first. I’ve been wanting to powerlift for a while so let me get that under my belt.

Yeah for the shoes. Picture for approval must be posted. (I’m such a pic whore)

If the yoga really doesn’t rock your boat just try some stretching for 20-30 minutes. Get a few stretches from the web, book or DVD.

Also if your eating to sustain all this, and having fun then why the hell not?

yay!!

happy dance

You better make time for the interwebz ;D

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying yourself. As long as you’re eating enough, you’ll be fine. Me on the other hand… haha
I hate yoga too, whenever my Yoga Kick sets in, I only last a day or so :stuck_out_tongue:

Kick ass at your soccer game tomorrow.

I don’t like that Barca shirt at all. Maybe take it off? ;);)…I can’t hate on them thought, they make ART when they play.

Masch, that is a busy schedule, but no doubt you can make it work. It’s great to hear you so excited about your training.

Maschy, please post a vid of you doing snatches so I can do lame joke. Kthx.

Oh yeah, I’m glad you are having a good time

i liked your pants
I mean your lifting
in your videos.

Glad you enjoyed it  Dan John says he can kick the ass of university football teams with broomstick drills, and yes, the bar can feel very heavy at times. I think coaches tend to like girls because we tend to be better at listening and (at least trying) to follow instructions. Not that there is time to think of more than one thing before a lift. Which is why training smaller components can help. Your schedule does sound hectic. Nice variety, though.

Alexus… good point on the wimmenz. When I look at female olympic lifting videos it seems that all of them have almost identical form… whereas for men it can be so different.

I’ve recently gone back to yoga and am starting to think I prefer my own stretching. I don’t really care about doing the funny breathing, and the class tends to focus on moves that make my spine feel like a concertina rather than stretches I actually need. I think you have to do what feels right for you, and it sounds like you’re doing that. Post some videos soon!

Thanks for the support everyone!! And for checking in on me

And for those of you requesting vids (of snatches!), i’ll def get some up once I’m actually properly O-lifting. In fact, I really can’t wait to show you guys some progress! (esp you Andy, my cyber mentor) So I promise I will get vids in like, oh…3 months or so? HAH! puts finger to Gits mouth Patience me dear, patience.

Mainy, brilliant idea re: the early morning stretching - that I most certainly can do! I do want to try a proper yoga class just to see what its like, but like Cal, I’m not one for all that breathing nonsense. But who knows! I could really like it…

Ronaldo, how about this, if Barca DOESN’T win the next big match the shirt comes off  And FTR I do really like Real Madrid and would pay good money for an Alonso, Ramos and Ronaldo sandwich. I’m taking donations via pay-pal.

On another note, I just want to make sure no one thinks i’ve gone gymnorexic. I know I said “I’m training every day”, but actually, some of the stuff I’m doing could easily be considered “Active rest” - especially the pilates, yoga and random cardio. Honestly, recently I just feel like staying active and working through DOMs and keeping my body moving in some way diurnally - perhaps since I’m not maxing out and since soccer is over my body isn’t too tired or something. Who knows. I’m just going to roll with it until my body says ‘scale it back’.

And in terms of the eating. I realize it sounds silly to say “i need to make sure I’m eating enough”, but the truth is, eating this warrior way makes me apt to under eat! So i just want to make sure I’m getting enough calories to sustain a long day.

On that note:

I did play in my match on Sunday! YAY! In hindsight it probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but I was being stubborn and really wanted to close-out the season so my coach let me. Anyways, I could tell right away once the game started that I wasn’t 100% ready and by the 30th minute the hammie was achey. By the 40th minute I felt a leetle twinge in the hamstring, but since I asked for it, I sucked it up and finished the half. The coach was going to bench me the 2nd half anyways, so I told myself to just go all out and fuck it. Anyways, I’m happy that i was able to play and quite pleased with the way I played and that I was able to last 45 mins. I’m amazed that even at 90% recovered I was still pretty fast! And now I have all winter to work on getting myself to where I want to be come Spring season

Training:

Last night I did some random lifting since I didn’t go to the Oly gym (I’m waiting for my oly shoes - they come tomorrow!). Of note - I decided to pull some DLs, which i haven’t done since August. I also decided pull conventional, which I never do since I used pull sumo - I was shocked about how easy they went up!

DL:
8x85, 8x95, 5x115 < these were off risers
5x135, 3x155

I wanted to keep going b/c 155 was kinda cake and my back felt great, but i didn’t want to push it with the hamstring.

That said, this made me really want to DL again, so maybe I will just pull some DLs on my leg-day - perhaps if I stick with conventional this will aid my O-lifting? But I wonder, will DLing hurt my O-lifting…anyone know?

Anyways, today I’m taking a “Power Yoga” class at 1p. And I just want to say, Universe, I thank you for a job that allows me to leave in the middle of the day to go do some glorified stretching for an hour, and where no one gives a damn re: my comings and goings - you rock!

Masch, or anyone else, ever done Bikram (“Hot”) Yoga? It’s brutal!

Can we trade jobs?

Sounds like everything is going well…a good end to the year!!

nah Deadlifting won’t hurt your olympic lifting, it is a very good lift for beginners and intermediates to build some general pulling strength. Just save energy for other lifts in the session, and don’t work up to a max weight too often. Something like 3x3 at 80% or something. And make sure it’s a clean deadlift… using clean mechanics.

I know what you mean about extra activity. Maybe its our way of staying sane during the cold months…
keeps the blood pumpin’

I don’t know how you do the Warrior Diet, but that’s awesome.

Good choice on taking it easy with the deadlifts, and playing in the game.

Your job also sounds really lenient, I always wanted to disappear for an hour with no one the wiser lol
