I’m working on it via the flexibility route, and hopefully I can get some one on one coaching once I get to the Oly gym and see if we can get rid of the rounding all together.


Finally back in the gym after making sweet, sweet love to all sorts of carb-loaded goodies. I was hoping to use all this glycogen to fuel an intense leg workout. I believe I succeeded - not because the leg workout was particularly intense, but because after 2 weeks of being off the legs I feel incredibly deconditioned. Ah well…

Anyways, everything is still geared towards Oly-style so i was trying to be very wary of form. I realize the weights aren’t anything to write home about, but this was seriously challenging for me. face palm

Foam roalling, mobility, hammie rehab

Front loaded squats - 10x10, 2x10x15, 10x10
Front squat - 5x65, 8x65, 5x75, 2x5x85 < kept the clean grip throughout, so that’s good
Bulgarian split squats (BB) - 3x10x65 < was supposed to do 4 sets but the hammie was acting up
BB jump squats - 15x45, 15x55, 15x65 < lost steam for the 4th set

2 mins jump rope followed by 2 rounds of prisoner squats (2x) < my legs were hating me at this point
Butt workout

And that was it! I’m still surprised that this was so challenging for me, but as they say, c’est la vie. I’m icing the hammie now before hitting the showers, so hopefully that will further aid in recovery.

I also realize that I may have spoken too soon re: playing in next weeks game. Ahh Mascherano, ever the optimist.

Tomorrow I’m going to try for some light cardio and other resistance work before hitting pilates. Today its cold and gray in Broketown, the perfect day to stay home and watch EPL :slight_smile:

Don’t put yourself down about the weight, your workouts… along with vids ;)… take my breath away. My shoulders will be too lazy to even do the front loaded squats.

You also challenge me with the BB jump squats. I was too much of a baby to up the weight on them my last workout, so now I have to do 65# like you.

I am fairly certain that I (with a completely fine hammie and not deconditioned) couldn’t have made it through that workout. NICE JOB! I need to go google “jump squats” now.

So last night I visited the Oly gym to have a look around, wasn’t planning on working out but I brought my stuff just in case. Good thing I did because they had me learning the Snatch right away! It was so much fun, albeit incredibly overwhelming.

About the lift, well, its pretty technical. I get the feeling Oly lifting is one of those things where you shouldn’t overthink anything and just go with it. All the coaches were super excited that i was able to learn so quickly, but i think they were most excited that I was a girl and they need girls for their team. So i’m on the team by default of having a vagina. Score!

Of course the head coach looked at me and said “you’ve clearly lifted before” which prompted me to pull out my guns, and this brought lots of cheers and awkward commentary. Double score!

At any rate, I worked up to a 32kg Snatch, which is about 70lbs. So this is really exciting! My upper back and arms are pretty sore though.

Anyways, there is so much to tell, but I’ll try to be brief. All the coaches, there are three of them, are these hilarious middle aged men and half the time I couldn’t tell whether they were talking to me in jest, making a sexual innuendo or giving me a cue. But me with my daddy issues, this can only be a good thing.

There’s a lot to learn, the lifts as well as the platform etiquette, so who knows where this will take me and how long it will take me to get there…where ever there is…but I’m just going to roll with it and enjoy the process. They know I’m a soccer player and told me this would be a great way to transfer power onto the field. And when I asked if Oly lifting would make my traps too big, the coach said, “no, but you’re ass is going to look GREAT!” lol! Good times.

I need to figure out what my schedule is going to be like and how to fit in my other lifting - the upper body work, conditioning and soccer - without putting a total hurting on my body.

DCA from the old folks home is starting on the Oly lifts too and when I asked him what his cues were he said the same thing you did - it’s more a feeling, a continuous movement.

GIRL do not worry about your traps getting too big. it more proportions than muscular development that give the “TRAPS” effect, I think. It has to do with the space between your neck and shoulders, the length or your neck, and where your traps are situated on your back.

I’ve never felt my traps look to big because they’re situated lower and further back on my back(then again I never do shrugs or rack pulls so maybe they are just not that developed), but then I have seen skinny chicks looking very traptacular due to the way their traps are shaped, having a long neck etc. I think they still look awesome though and a nice body is hot no matter where your traps lay, but ya. YOUR ASS!!!

I’m jealous about the snatch. I used to train Oly C&J all the time but never learned snatch cause I didn’t ever lift where I could drop the weights. Now with my shoulder . . . it’s unlikely that snatch is in my future.

Don’t worry about the traps. Like I said, I used to do cleans all the time and got to a decent weight for my size and never noticed my traps looking out of proportion. Of course, nothing on my upper body ever gets too big no matter what I do.

And I can totally relate to your experience with the “older male coaching.” My coach has become like a surrogate father to me. With sexual innuendo mixed in. Trust me. They never outgrow it.

Sounds fun and exciting! I don’t know anything about oly lifting so I’m looking forward to following along.

I played around with a BB snatch and the empty bar is hard enough, so 70# is amazing.

You must have been wearing sweats or something and they couldn’t see, cuz your ass already looks great.

I felt like I was watching Barnum and Bailey’s Circus!! And what with all the hip-thrusting, and bar grazing, it was very distracting…I see now why singlets are mandatory.

Yeah - cuz getting hyooj just happens so easily… Weightlifting makes women tight-bodied and curvy in the right places, not big - unless they eat to become so.

loved the vid’s- I will go on a limb and say you need to put your grip out farther-
and when you rack the bar you should feel like your choking.
and get those elbows up-

but I think the boys in queens will get you there.
