As always you guys are the best! Thanks again for putting me at ease. I’m such a baby! I am trying to feel better though, and for the most part I am!

Anyways, I went to the surgeon and he assed a torn ACL and surgery. HOWEVER! I still haven’t had the MRI, so maybe, juuuust maybe, its only partially torn. My quads are strong! They should’ve absorbed part of the blow. I don’t want surgery. I’ll take longer to rehab as long as it means not having to get stitched up with a cadaver (Rock?). Skeeves me out a bit. Could I get a piece of someone I know who’s alive? Like a relative? That’s pretty neat (you complete me grandma).

The MRI got caught up in Bureauratic limbo. In the meantime I’ve been told to be normal and I don’t need the cane OR brace. Yippee! That sucked dick. I do still wrap the knee with an ace bandage when I exercise. It gets wobbly.

Today Day 1 of Body Building regime! Back and shoulders. Any advice welcome.

Triset
Pronated Pullups - 6x3, 4x2
lat raise - 2x12x15, 2x12x20 < 20s were ugly
front raise - 2x12x12.5, 2x12x15

Chest supported row - 8x45, 12x35 < hard!
push press - 8x45, 2x8x55, 8x60 < I was doing these at 85lbs. Wah! The knee was iffy, but I wanted to do some weight bearing on my knees. I even tried a few hang cleans and it was doable.
cable row - 10x70, 8x80

Yeah, that’s it.

Yesterday I went swimming and that was also doable. Except I can only do the crawl (see below). I hate that I can’t do my cardio! Grrr!!

Tomorrow night mat based pilates. I also took this class on Sunday. Kicked my ass!! I gotta work my core, bro!

Eats are good. I’m doing strict warrior and that helps :slight_smile:

The tatt is a phoenix. I started it in 2007, its about 20 hours in and needs about 20 more hours. I haven’t worked on it in 2 years! But yeah, for what you see now I did it in about 5 separate sessions.

As for the BBing style workouts - I got the split from Nikki, so its shoulders and back, hams and glutes and chest, arms and abz. I’m going to see what sorts of stuff I can for my quads too - the surgeon said the quad is important to work while you dealing with an ACL tear. Its funny though, b/c when I see other people’s BBing workouts, their sessions are always so jam packed! Mine, not so much…lol!

This last workout took me an hour, usually I spend about 2 hours in the gym. Granted I was racing through it b/c I want the extra “conditioning”…

ooh ooh! What about this for the quad…Sit on the floor, Bend one knee/ foot on the ground while the other leg is straight out. Lift the lying leg on the floor, UP.

LOL! Thanks MiMs!! The leg exercises look like great rehab stuff, so I’ll definitely do them. I try to go up and down stairs as rehab too…so maybe I can do some step ups and stuff as well. I’ll have to try. I can do wall sits, so I’m going to start with those.

Hilarious with the Jane Fonda workouts and the Friedrich stuff - do people still do these sorts of workouts? The Fonda workout tape I used to do when I was a kid was this one.

Can you imagine 7 year old Maschy with my little leotard high kicking away in the living room! My post workout snack was a mayonaise sandwich (I was a latch key kid). And I took my first aerobics class at my local YMCA when I was just 12! Its so funny how there are just somethings you never grow out of. :slight_smile:

The hamstring mimics the action of the ACL, that’s why there’s ‘thought’ to be a link between weak hams and torn ACLs. Of course, like everything, this is disputed–but it’s an interesting link I think.

Hi Mascherano. Your poor knee, just when I found another O-lifting log. How many are there on here? I’ve skimmed over your log, that’s great you were able to get up to 32kg so quickly. I got up to 25 only to be told to lower it because my wrists can’t handle the weight yet.

But I’ll play along, The Firm was my first workout videos, this was my favourite as a pre-teen (it’ll show my age too) and there were a couple with Sandahl Bergman from Conan the Barbarian.

Can you bend your knee at all?
If so, leg extensions and seated leg curls might be best for you. For the BB style training and helping with your ACL.

Only if you can do them though.

Also, regarding your question about the FST-7 to Count, for your legs I was thinking that maybe you could do GVT GMs like Veggie did once. I kick myself for recommending it to you since your posterior chain is already so much better than mine, but you can think about it. I don’t think something as intense as FST-7 for lower body can do more good than harm. Just because of the short rests and constant pumping and stretching. Might make your knee wig out on you lol

Masch: Sorry to hear about the potential need for surgery. But, I’m so glad you’re up and about and moving again. My husband has a cadaver ACL graft too. He’s a big guy 6’ 6", so he had to wait for a little bit to get one. It was weird to think about the dead person and the harvest, but I remember that he wrote a thank you note to the family. And we are thankful. I hope you don’t need surgery. The repair and the recovery is a pain, but it will be worth it, and you’ll get through it.

Glad that you have been able to do some lifting. Hope that everything goes well with your knee and you can get surgery soon if it is necessary.

You must hate that cunt that caused this whole thing! WTF!!! I though of you the other day when I heard that one of my patients suffered a fracture to her dominant-hand wrist in a game last weekend. Same kinda thing… some bitch trying to be Pele. Anywho, also kinda ironic that it happened because I just saw her recently and she was commenting on the fact that the game gets so much more intense/aggressive during the summer season due to all of the college girls that play in her summer league. We were actually joking about the fact that maybe she should finally move on from the over-18 league to the over-35 league. In her case she is now playing with/against women who are half of her age.

Actually, yes, i vehemently dislike the girl who did this to me!! Very, very much so. In fact, I’ve been trying to keep the negativity at bay, in my real life and in my log, and just say “it was a negligent tackle and it was an accident” and for the most part its been working. But there is that little part in my heart that wants to damn her and her fuckery! Its exactly as your patient says!

These fucking girls come out of college and think they’re playing for the World Cup (which even if you did, it would still be a dirty tackle and you’d be sent off the field!) and then they get all pissy when they realize that playing at Duke doesn’t automatically make them better than a woman 10 years their senior who can still smoke their ass on the pitch.

Nik, thanks again homeslice! ROM is coming slowly but surely, so I’m not exactly sure how far I can bend the knee quite yet. 90 to 180 is good, so maybe the leg extensions are doable. Count mentioned hammie curls, but my ROM in that direction isn’t as good.

GVT GMs is not a bad idea - maybe I can do my split adding in a GVT GMs day? (just so to get me in the gym doing something, lol!) So it’ll be:

back and shoulders
hams and glutes
chest, arms and abzzzzzzz
GM GVT < but what else can I do here? maybe whatever quad work I can fit in? move the abs to here (fucking hate training abs)
