2busy - Thanks! Frankly I don’t mind treadmills. I fucking hate running in the cold, and I like running - so in the winter you have to learn to like them. I used to run 6 miles on a hills setting AND do hill sprints throughout. It would take about 50 mins. Fun! But its not good on my knees :confused:

Okey dokes. Yesterday’s Oly was good. Nothing spectacular but keeping in mind I took a week off and my energy is wonky, it wasn’t too bad.

I realize that I really need to stretch my back out. Andy was right. My whole back is mad tight! I need to work on that consistently. Thing is, that gym is like stepping back in time, they don’t have foam rollers or even space to do any sort of proper warm-up. Kinda sucks.

Anyways, my training has been lacking gusto, but like I said, I just feel a mess. I’m anxious and excited and being really productive. The diet has been good (until now, i’m snacking on PB and other stuff…), and that’s been helpful too.

Training went like this:
Basically I ramp all the way through and once i start missing i call it quits. lol! such an underachiever. So the sets reps are written exactly as i did them. I know my weights are kinda lame, but as I see it, it takes me 10 snatches to start missing. So that’s good, right? Once i get the first pull down I’ll start pulling more weight.

I did just realize what they mean by “push the bar up” in the snatch - that’ll be useful once i try throwing some serious weight. Similarly my first pull IS getting better. Thinking about contracting the lats is super helpful for keeping the chest up, and I just found its ok to straighten your legs and be essentially over the bar. Why didn’t anyone tell me this?

Hang snatch - 2x20, 3x25, 1x30
Snatch - 3x25, 3x1x30, 2x1x32.5, 4x1x35 (2M) <last two of the 35s were misses.

The second 35 snatch surprised me with how fluid it felt and my coach appluaded me - but i know i can do better. I need to really get my hips through and vertical - i want that bar to fly up my body damnit! Also need to remember to jump baaaaaack. Lol! Keep arms loose. All of that. Oy.

Was supposed to train tonight with my buddy, but she bailed, so I bailed. I don’t care quite frankly. I feel I need a light week. But tomorrow I do want to get in to train, might even double dip if I feel good. Gonna get in my calories and get some sleep :slight_smile:

i think that is what Kono thinks (there are youtube clips where he explains what he thinks about technique).

i think that is what Everett is arguing against (in his online article on first pull position).

different coaches have different ideas on it, i think. all that matters is what seems to work for you, though :slight_smile:

Hey the new job prospects sounds great, congrats, via your logs you been working real hard at it so congrats. My back locks up all the time if I donâ??t warm it up enough. Have you tried fire hydrants? Joe Defranco has a series on different type of active stretches fire hydrants which maybe are not a specific back stretching activity but doing those combined with glute bridges and some static stretching helped my back immeasurably. I think its called Defranco’s agile 8.

Lex, you mean to tell me that my boyfriend, Greg Everett, doesn’t agree with this? harumph Hmm…Well, I still suck at the first pull, so I can’t really say that I have found my technique yet, so who knows! But I will say that the combination of knowing that I can straighten my legs, as well as having just learned that combining straightening your legs with keeping your chest up, will produce favorable results (i.e not smashing the bar into my knees) has improved my first pull…we’ll see what happens, you know how it goes.

Yesterday I was nauseous from the moment I woke up until the moment I went to bed!! Got in my training, but felt like shit all day! Can’t tell if I’m getting sick, getting over a sickness, or just insanely anxious and spazzed out. Keep truckin’ i guess. (and sleeping, slept until 9am today!)

Friday’s training! Double dip accomplished. It was ambitious to do an am and pm sesh, but I wanted to, even despite the fact that i was nauseous all day. I really do believe my body is fighting off some sort of bug…I slept a good 8 hours last night though, and I think that helped.

AM - concurrent training Added in some extras where I felt I could.

KB Swings - 2x15x35, 2x15x40
Jump rope - 6 mins alternating every 2 mins with plate pushes 4 times up and down the studio (1x45 plate, then 2x90, 2 plates)
WG lat pulls - 15x80, 75, 75, 70
1 mile - 8:13 < i could make excuses for this, like the fact that I had to stop midway to remove the stuff that I put on the treadmill next to me because a fellow gym goer wanted to use that treadmill - or i could just be honest with myself and say that my performance is suffering and I KNOW i can do tons better if I wasn’t training moronically. I still need to run this mile outside anyways. So whatever.
Cable row, V handle - 15x70, 80, 70
Quad matrix (squat, alt lunges, jump squats, jump lunges) 1x12xBW, 3x12x20
Atlas pushups ladder from 1 to 10

PM - Oly

Hang snatch - 2x20, 3x25

Snatch - 30, 2x30, 2x35 (1M), 35, 37, 37 (M) < 37 is a PR, it was an ugly PR, but I’ll take it. When I missed the next 37 my coach made me start all over again. First pull problems as per usual. He said the only way I’ll get this is with repetition. So continuing…
Snatch - 25, 30, 35, 35, 35 (M), 35(M) < dunzo! misses = moving on.

Clean and jerks - 25, 30, 35, 35, 40 (hang clean), 40 (M) < I don’t spend enough time on these and it shows. My cleans are terrible! These need definite practice. UGH!

Narrow grip power snatch from mid-shin - 3x5x25 < killer on my tris. These are meant to teach me how to curl the bar towards my body, i think.

Anyways, the good news is that I’m improving, the bad news is I still kinda suck. lol! What else is new? First pull is messy, but getting there. I also can’t get myself to land on my heels!! I think the problem isn’t so much that I don’t land on my heels, but that I don’t ever get off my toes! I need to freaking jump!! And I’m still so slow. So annoying. Like my coach always says, “you’re a soccer player, JUMP!”

Let’s not even talk about my chubbiness! Argh! I keep saying I need to lean out, but I keep eating like shit. Over eating some days, under eating others…its no bueno. And I really don’t like the extra weight - I feel cognizant of my size, if that makes sense. Last week I said 3 weeks to look like my normal self again. I’m holding myself to that.

Today no training. I have DOMs and want a day where I do nothing, and I mean NOTHING. Tomorrow footie! YAY! I’m in need of a day with the girls. Should be fun!!
