Never Walk Alone

Okey dokes - training:

First off - I took yesterday off, which if you ask me, is an achievement unto itself. I might be borderline gymnorexic, except I eat and stuff…

Next - Last night’s Oly training was seriously lazy. What can I say? HAH!

(in kilos)
Hang snatches - 2x3x20, 3x25
Full snatches - 1x 25, 27.5, 27.5, 30, 32.5
C&J - 2x1x30

And, yeah, that was it…HAHAH! To my credit, i do a lot of high pulls and random shit in between my snatches so that I can realize the bar path and such, as evidenced below, and I didn’t miss a single one of them. That’s good, right?

25k hang snatches.
a) now we know where all that Nutella went cough
b) notice that I’m trying to learn to get into the first pull. I’m such a mess. Its incredible.
c) I laugh a lot b/c my coach is constantly talking to me and its incredibly distracting.

32.5 snatch
My back is practically parallel!! God i suck at 1st pull! Must. keep. ass. down!

Anyways, i’m going to do some snatch DLs this weekend for practice.

Enjoy the vids folks. ALL critique welcome!

Have a great day lovers!

Edit: I should also say, my shoulder is a bit bitchy today. Sigh. Oh well.

Like I said before, I don’t know shit about Oly lifting (although those looked clean to me) but I know smiles, muscles and yoga pants.

SO MUCH WIN!!

I agre with Git, those looked very smooth and you looked like you were having a blast.

But I’m against anything that keeps asses down… just sayin.

you said your back is practically parallel, and you have to keep your ass down??..can you be more specific -at which points of the lifts are you talking about? I thought they looked good but imma nooob.

Why did you change your log to kilos? I like this, cuz mines in kilos, but just wondering  besoootes

Looked good to me, but then my own form is bollocks so anything looks good compared to that.

Re: kilos - I’m guessing it’s cos oly lifts are in kilos?
I use kilos too because UK gyms measure that way (however, as a nation we have a foot in both camps. Most food is metric but we use miles and measure I height in feet and inches and weight in stones and pounds. Temperatures are metric… Drink cans are metric but beer is sold in pints. I think we do it just to confuse foreigners as much as possible).

Awesome Vid, Maschy.

Looks like you killed it, to me.

You’re such a bad-ass~

Lifts looked good to this non-oly lifter as well.

Are you saying you need to keep your ass down like you would during a DL? That what you’re after?

LWI!

Preach it.
Ass down, head up is good at the gym.
Ass up, head down is good at home.

You’re so cute Maschy! I love the vids.

I’ll say that you’re making progress, no? Don’t think that you’re the only one on this green earth that doesn’t get things right away. I’m still trying to do simple crap like Oly front squats. I’m having fun hurting myself and screwing up though lol

Over time, your posts have less and less things that you’re concerned about. Like today, you only seem to be worried about is the Nutella booty not being down =D

Keep it up Maschy, celebrate all the victories, even the small ones.

you are getting their-

and god bless nutella

Wow Maschy, looking pretty darn good.

I know nothing about Oly lifting as well, but that is a great looking snatch…

Nice and fast turnover Masch! I read somewhere to start in the position you want to end at the set up to reinforce the bottom position. If you think about that it might help you keep your hips low. And chest up. But I can’t give any more real critique than that since I know nothing :o)

It’s a pleasure to watch your vids

I thought things looked really great in that first vid! Good drive and fast drop. I heard somewhere that for old school oly lifters (and it sounds like your coach is one of those) nothing makes their eyes bleed more than the way most people do the first pull. I think there is a lot of sense to really getting the power position ingrained with working at the hang and then pushing the start down to a bit lower… a bit lower… till pulling from the floor.

In my vids I strategically edited the way I lowered the bar to the floor at the end of the rep. That is because I can’t figure how to lower it without it looping out in front to get it past my knees. I’m pretty darned sure that your coach wouldn’t be letting me pull from the floor either :-p

I think there are lots of different ways to learn and each method has its pros and cons. Probably more profitable to stick to one for at least a while, though. Pretty sure my progress has been slower because I’ve mixed things up a bit too soon because I didn’t have a person making sure I got things right.

There was a cool article that someone posted over on the Oly forum about the relationship between Oly pulls and training and max effort deadlifts (and other things). It is long… But maybe worth a read. I learned a lot from it, anyway.

I think if I was working with a coach to get real time critique I would be progressing to lifting from the floor in the same way you are. I definitely think it’s a good way to go. I don’t do it like that because I have a hard time seeing where I’m breaking down without doing the full lift and I don’t get the feedback until I review the video.

my favorite part is 0:00-0:07

Ponce - thanks for the rec! I’ll have to look it up. One of my gfs just sent me this article on how sugar is Satan’s cocaine.[/quote]

That just means he can go ALL NIGHT LONG HONEY.

GUILT is the only drug you should avoid.

White honey. Only that brand.

Aww! Git, Joe, you guys are the sweetest. Even with my current chunky butt, i still get props. Thanks fellas!

Cal, you’re exactly right. HAH! I switched to kilos b/c the plates are in kilos and i’m too lazy to do the math and give them to you in lbs. But anyways, you all can just do what I do and simply double the kg weight and say, “you know, about 50 lbs or so…”

Nikki darling! I do believe I’m making progress! Its still quite slow though, but I’m happy. I’m also happy because I had to take 6 weeks off from the O lifting, and now that I’m back I don’t think I’ve back tracked all that much, so that’s good. HAHA! Its true, i did only complain about the nutella booty! But that’s also b/c I can’t freaking see what Im doing in the 2nd pull! But no doubt there are many other things I can improve - hip drive being one of them, better extension, ahh…the list is endless.

Ink! That Nutella has white stuff in it!! That’s probably someone’s “special” nutella jar…haha!

KMC, German, Matty - thanks guys!!

Oopsie! Hit submit…continuing.

Bre and Ink - That’s right, I want my back to be vertical when I get into the first position. In the pic attached, I’m referring specifically to position a. See? I’m a fucking mess compared to what I’m supposed to look like!

Hey Deb! Thanks! I think I read that too - probably in your log. HAHA! But yeah, that sounds like really good advice. And when I watch you and Lex set up, as well as other lifters in the gym, i notice that they do it similarly to you guys - they approach the bar and set up in the position that resembles the catch, and then they get their hands in snatch position on the bar, and then raise their hips. I believe this helps keep the back arched! I’m going to try to set up in this way, next time.

What’s strange though, is that in the vid where I pull from the ground, my coach is watching me the entire time! Why wouldn’t he correct this form faux pas?! He just let me pull all willy nilly like that. Harumph!

Lex - thanks girlie! Honestly, I’m glad that I’m working in this way too. The 2nd pull is important and I really do want to nail that before I move to the floor. I just can’t tell if the bar is getting away from me or not and if i’m really using hip drive, or whether I’m pulling the bar up…

And I completely agree! There are tons of ways to learn the lifts and indeed they have their pros and cons. I am going to stick to this method, and at this point, i don’t really have any other option. HAH! But I am going to practice doing some snatch DLs today (at my local gym), maybe see if I can do like you and Deb and get into the position first…

Sweet! Thanks for the article! I can’t wait to read it. More arsenal

Ponce - HAHAHA! I’m pretty sure Satan can go for an eternity!

Last night I did another one of them concurrent training session - i won’t list the boring details - but I did run my mile in 7:58! YAY! That’s 30 secs less than the last time. It was a push though, not gonna lie…

Tonight, no Oly, just going to hit my local and do some oly tech, and other lifty kinds of things.

TGIF Y’alls!!
