Work has got me by the virtual nutsack so its hard for me to get online. Meh! I knew it was going to happen - all my deadlines are coming up in May and June, and these were 2 - 3 yr projects that I’ve been working on, so there’s a lot to wrap up. But anyways, i’m still lurking and pulling inspiration from all you guys, so thanks for that! You guys are killing it and it really helps get my head in the game.

That said, i can only get online on the weekends, so i’m going to give a weekly summary of my training - feel free to skim at your leisure.

4/2/11 -

Sunday - soccer game. We lost (again). I was tired from my trip - got in at 5am, ran home to say hi to the bf and drop off my shit, then run up to midtown to meet my ride up to the match. On the plus side, I have awesome transportation karma (i must’ve been a train conductor in a past life) and the plane came in an hour early, the subways ran without a hitch, and despite leaving my house late, i still caught my ride. I think the universe is thanking me for NOT driving. HAHAH! You’re welcome.

Anyways, we were short players, so coach made me play defense. This is a demotion for a mid-fielder (imho), but i was too tired to protest. Plus I was playing a full 90, and that makes me happy. Also, I figured if I play D, i’ll just play offensively and run the fuck back. HAH! Suckas. And I did! I had a good 3 offense runs in the other box. Quick as lighting I tell ya!

Monday - implementing NEW training regime. Mondays are HUGE. I love it. I was feeling a bit fatigued (pre-menstrual) so i wasn’t planning on attempting maxes. Figured i’d do mid-rep stuff.

Warmup/mobility/rehab
Front squat - 5x65, 8x95, 105, 115
back squat - 8x95, 115
BW Chins - 7x4, 2x3, 3x2
WG pushups - 3x15, 10 < shoulders felt fine
B/o lat raises - 15x 7.5, 10, 12.5, 10
BB Row - 8x 60, 70, 2x10x60
GHRs - 4x10 < new gym i’m hitting has a proper GHR machine! Woo hoo! These killed me btw. I could feel the tiny tears for days! good thing or bad thing?
Ab roll - 2x4x10 < no bueno, molested my shoulder

Tuesday - soccer practice. awesome times!!

Weds - First day back at Oly. I think John Lennon sums it up when he sang:

I had to start with the kids bar. 5kg. FML. But I worked up to a 35kg hang snatch, not too shabby. My coach kept pushing me even though i was hesitant. He also gave me an AMAZING shoulder massage and really dug his fingers deep into my shoulders and upper pec. I was dying! It felt so good.

Did hang cleans and front squats.

Thursday - tried out that concurrent training for a light, move around kinda day. So it goes all through with minimal rest. Took me about 1/2 hour and was pretty fun!

DB burpees - 3x15x15
jump rope - 3 mins < was supposed to do 7 mins but I was like, fuck that. jump roping is hard!
cable row - 3x15x 80, 70, 60
1 mile run - 8:28 < i used to run a 7 min mile in college - hilarious! I put the treadmill on a slight incline so that its less catapulty.
Med ball squats - 3x15x12 < this was way too light, but i was being mad lazy
Bike - 7 mins < tried to keep intensity up. house music helps. I’m that guy!

Friday - more oly. still easing in.

My coach wants me to shoot for a 80k clean and 60k snatch in a year. He’s crazy. I think he got exciting about my squat numbers. lol! (He’d die if he saw you Deb. HAH! With your strength and technique you’d make his head explode. He’s awesome like that.)

We actually worked up to a 2x70k back squat. That’s an ATG PR for me! He spotted me and did give me a little nudge on the 2nd.

Also I think i’m finally getting the “scoop”! Your pelvis literally scoops (der!) and then BAM! the bar hits your hips and it flies up. From there, extend, shrug, arms loose, and drop (duck?). LWI.

Today is a rest day - i told my guy we’d go knock the ball around a bit since he’s getting ready for his season to start, but we’re being lazy (crosses fingers!). Maybe we’ll just go for a long walk and then hit the diner. Carb loading mutha fucka!

Tomorrow soccer match! Imma score a goal! Mark my words, people.

Hi Andy! I do research and program evaluations for different orgs - social sciencey things. Write now i’m writing on higher education policy and doing some public health type stuff. I also teach research methods at the local uni. Research is fun! I’m like a detective :slight_smile:

congrats on your squat, too. if you can squat it then you can stand it up. that is half the battle, really.

public health sounds really interesting. hope that you find yourself enjoying your work. sorry that you are so busy… selfishly, because i miss you. please do keep us updated, though. i love hearing how things are going for you.

Deb - yeah, the coach is a blessing. Its nice to have someone who will push you and who somehow believes in you. This is probably way too much info, but I know you’ll understand - I’ve had a lot of coaches in my day, and I’ve joked around about my daddy issues, but the truth is, i have had, and continue to have this deep desire for a male father figure in my life. And coach Joe (as well as Jerry!) is really one of the better coaches I’ve ever had. They really know how to work with women and understand the nuance of working with some women who are…er…half baked, like me. Its a nice dynamic, eventhough he can be a bit hard on me. Its also somewhat disturbing in retrospect, b/c i often see myself working out my own “issues” through our relationship - and as cheesy as this is, i am finally learning a bit about my relationships with men, particularly older men ahem and its been a very illuminating experience thus far. HAHA!
