I looked back at my old log in Jan 2010 my chinup max was 5. And now its 10. Perhaps this is a dour view but I think its a bit silly that it took a year to get 5 more chinups. HAHA! Ah well. Gaining strength is a battle that is hard one my friends, but its a wonderful all the same.

yeah, great work. hmm… i revise my new years resolution of 10 chin-ups down to 5 chin-ups. struggling a lot with resistance band assists so think that may have been a lot ambitious. weighted chins - totally bad ass.

Hello everyone!

I’m sorry I haven’t been around too much. Life has been keeping me busy, that’s for sure.

I’m still trying to lose the weight that I put on over the holidays. So i’m trying to hit it hard in the gym and eat sensibly. I have a wedding on Sunday for one of my BFFs and I’m in the wedding party, so that’s been motivating me. lol! Other than that, life continues as normal.

In Oly news:

Lifts are progressing well!

Snatch is getting more fluid and I am now predominantly pulling off the floor. I still catch mostly in the power position, but every once in a while a full snatch sneaks in. Lol! I still find catching full a bit scary, and its hard for me to wrap my head around “dropping under the bar”. But it makes so much sense, you can only get the bar so high, so you have to ‘drop under it’ - d’uh. But still…Anyways, I did a bunch of triples working up to 25kg, and then 1x27.5 and then I failed at 30 and then again at 27.5. Meh.

Also, coaches taught me more of the C&J and I had some serious beginners luck! It was so much fun and everyone was pleased. Basically we worked up to doing a clean and push press (to throw). Lol! its so funny b/c I’m always like “so wait, this is called a what?” And believe it or not, every part of the entire lift has a name. Anyways, its cool b/c I was pulling off the floor, which is also something I find quite hard. I worked up to 1x41 but had to put the kibosh after doing 3 singles at 41kg.

For me, once the lift goes to shit, it’s gone. When I failed at 41 on the clean and pp, the coach made me go down to 30k and I failed again. Then with a look of disgust he made me grab my neighbors empty men’s bar. I just looked at him and said ‘this is so embarrassing’, and luckily was able to “clean” and PP it.

Training:

Did some front squat push presses (with correct form at last) and a circuit on tuesday. The circuit was 9 exercises in total, 3 sets each.

Also, lower day went well.
Conv DL - 5x125, 135, 150 4x170 < Too much back rounding going on, so I let 170 go. I’ll get it next time.
Sumo DL - 5x135, 145, 165, 195 < sumo, i heart you

Then some kneeling jumps (stupid defranco thing that’s stupid), hip thrusts, DB rev lunges, plank.

This week, also got in a yoga class, pilates and a 5 mile run (with hill sprints). Typical girlie shit. HAH!

I was supposed to do my upper training today, but I just didn’t feel like it. I’ll hit it tomorrow - Sunday mornings, i’ll have the gym to myself :slight_smile:

And that’s it! Trying to get my sleep and pretty much hibernating. Freaking winter!!

Yeah, I always found it weird that every motion you do in an Oly lift has a name. It’s like it’s walking you through, step by step haha

I’m sure that circuit will help with the post-holiday weight. All that work in general is going to strip off the holidays.

Thanks Kimba! It is motivating - and sometimes not at all…I get easily discouraged when I suck. But that’s just me and my bad attitude. I won’t lie, though, having a coach is awesome! So many of us have to train with little or no guidance, or just e-guidance, but having someone who works with you hands-on is very helpful.

Hi Frenchie! Actually we got to chose the dress ourselves - a black cocktail dress. But frankly I would’ve liked to have the dress chosen for me b/c my taste is so different from my friends and I don’t want to fuck anything up! Luckily she put up some parameters “no this, this, or that and definitely no crushed velvet”. lol. But its a BIG waspy wedding, and I really want to make her proud, so i got this classy, black satin number from an indie designer. I can’t pick it up until Thurs though so I’m a little nervous, especially b/c i don’t remember what it looks like - and me with my massive guns and torpedo tits…oy. And i still have to get shoes for it!

Alrighty - i’m off to the gym for my upper w/o. And I just want to say thanks ladies. I always read your logs during the week and they really inspire me to hit the training hard! Absolutely motivating!

OH! And one more thing - i just found a long, blonde (wtf?!) hair growing out of my chin!!!

I have to pluck chin hairs sometimes. Thankfully it’s only one or two although they do get more with age. I used to grow a long hair out of my neck (just a regular hair - not from a mole or anything) but I haven’t seen it for a while. Perhaps the repeated plucking killed it off, finally.

Your log makes me laugh. You’ll rock your dress for sure torpedo tits. I was in my sister’s wedding this summer at a time when I was pretty lean and rocking the pullups. When my mom saw my back in my bridesmaid dress she exclaimed “Oh my god Nadia” as in a what have you done to yourself you used to be such a pretty girl kind of way. I have to admit, seeing pictures of my back in that dress freaked me out a little bit, but now, when I go to a pool and I see the impeccably soft and smooth sausage like backs that most people sport–uggh–disgusting.

Come back with your upper body workout, and I’ll include “stupendous” with the other adjectives lol
