Need to Change

Hey everyone, Just finished my second month and second round of testing and even though I’ve got more positive results I don’t feel that they are anywhere near as good as they could be.

I’ve really struggled to get interested in what I was doing training wise, so it’s a good job I can change and do something different now.

Luckily my diet stayed in tact or I probably wouldn’t have gotten much in the way of results at all.

The new results are:

Body Weight Kg/lbs 74/163

Upper Arm Left (inches) 14.75

Upper Arm Right (inches) 14.75

Left Thigh (inches) 25

Right Thigh (inches) 25

Waist (inches) 32

Fit Test (Vo2 max) 47

BMI 26

Body Fat % 15

B.P 124/67

Pulse 72

The best results for me personaly are the increases in arm and leg size, and the continuing body fat loss. The waist size coming down again is pretty good too. All of which means my diet is definitely working.

From a fitness point of view the increase in Vo2 is really impressive considering the week that I lost thanks to the dredded MAN FLU and the fact that I was absolutely shattered when I did the test.

If you didn’t know, when your tired your heart rate increases which makes things like Vo2 tests presume your working harder than you actually are and in turn give you a lower score than could really have been achieved. So I kind of short-changed myself there abit but I wasn’t going to have chance to do it again for another week. Cest La Vie.

Next up training wise is powerlifting, predominantly the big three, Bench, Squat and Deadlift. I will be doing a full body day once a week so I’m not losing out to much on other areas. Any cardio that I do now will be at about 60% MHR so I’m not expecting it to count for anything more than helping with recovery.

More pics are on the way, it just might take a little while to get them photo-shopped, oops, I mean put them on the thread without any digital enhancement in any way.

Hope everyones training is going to plan and thanks again for all the support.

Speak soon guys n gals

Just so you know how bad things are, below are the initial results from the testing and measuring:

Deadlift (kg/lbs) 115/253

Squat (kg/lbs) 50/110

Bench Press (kg/lbs) 75/165

110 pound squat? Please tell me this is a typo or that you had some major knee surgeries.

No man it’s not a typo. I had my left knee dislocated when is was 15 in a freak kickboxing accident.

Ok 7 - 8 years is a long rehab time but when your dealing with ligaments and tendons the last thing you want to do is push and make it worse.

The squat that I posted wasn’t a real attempt at a max lift, it was just a figure that I got at the end of a pretty heavy speed drill and GPP workout. The same for my bench and deadlift.

I’ll be perfectly happy if at the end of this I can comfortably, for at least 6 - 8 reps, squat bodyweight.

If everything goes to plan I may very well concentrate on such figures with my next programme, but I’m much more interested in getting back into kickboxing or muay thai to be honest.

In the intrests of science I decided to use my training session yesterday to see what I could comfortably front squat for 1 rep. Pointless maybe but it was somethin I wanted to do.

The good news is that I got a 80kg/176lb full front squat done without pushing too much. By full I mean right to the floor and back up again, not a partial or a half. Getting over bodyweight was always gonna make me happy. I’m not gona lie and say it was easy 'cus it wasnt but I know that I could have got a lot more on the bar if I had a spotter or a proper squat rack.

In a few weeks time I should be hitting atleast 10kg/22lb heavier. Hopefully!

In the interests of this thread, what exactly is happening with your results Ian?

Its been a long time and we are all waiting with baited breath.
