Need Advice on Power Rack

I’m buying a power rack for my garage. I need it for squats, GMs, benching, weighted dips (there are attachments for these), and weighted pull-ups.

I’ve heard good things about NY Barbell and EliteFTS power racks. Does anyone know why the EliteFTS racks cost 3x as much as the NY Barbell racks? I’d shell out the extra cash if there was a big difference in stability and durability.

NY Barbell, Powertec and Body Solid are all good racks. If you want something very durable, then I would go with the Elite FTS power rack (it also has 1-inch spacing) and will most likely handle dropping heavy weights (500lbs+) better than the other racks.

The other racks will hold up to 800-1000lbs, so it just depends on what your needs are and what you plan on doing. I have a Body Solid power rack and am completely satisfied. It was cost-effective and is strong and high quality. I also added the lat/row attachment to mine about a year ago. It was definitely worth it!

I bought a Body Solid power rack from Fitness Factory for $280 almost three years and added the plate lat attachment a year ago (my setup looks much like Nate Dogg’s). I have not used the racks you mentioned, but I have been very satisfied with my setup.

I just did a search on power racks and this older thread came up.

I’ve received a quote on a Body Solid power rack from a store in the city and I’m very close to buying it but my only concern is the option of dip bars.

Based on what I can tell, it is simply too wide for dips.

Is that true? Is there any attachment available that may make dips possible with it? I’d like not to have to get a tower for dips alone because chins seem to be taken care of in the Body Solid rack already.

Ive been doing dips between the laundry sink and a low chest of drawers but I’m keen for something with a better structure - and the same height on both sides…

Thanks in advance.

Tom

I have a powertech rack and I am very happy with it. Weighted dips and chins are no problem.

Not being funny, but do you have to drill into the floor to secure the rack? I’m renting, and doubt my landlord would be cool with that
