My Baby Got Sauce

MIM: They are about hip width. I remember wondering if I should widen them a bit when I was doing them, but they feel pretty comfortable there. thoughts??

Kouba: You tend to drop lots of knowledge in here, I like it. I really like the advice for the millies-I look forward to next time I train them to put it into effect.

Nadia: Thank you! Thank you! I randomly saw an old-school bar routine this weekend on tv and thought of you. how’s that coming along?

Nlmain: Beautiful front squats are my goal, so thank you. I’ll race you to 100 on the millies!

Finals this week and I spent the weekend with my nephew at the pool. I consider that a good choice. By the end of the day, I will know all that there is to know about the knee, hip, and ankle. Catch up with ya’ll later!

Lula, good luck on finals!

Road biking is a blast. I’d recommend it as a great way to cross-train. Do you have decent roads to ride on? That makes a big difference in the experience.

Killer front squats. I’m getting interested in these for myself.

I’ll second what Da Koubanator said about MP; it really helps you get your strength into the bar (to put it in scientific terms).

Your front squats do look good. My only constructive criticism is to really drive those elbows up. That said you seem to be keeping nice and upright as is. I find the oly grip to be less ‘chokey’ than the cross-arm grip, have you tried both? If that foot width is comfortable for you I’d keep using it.

I’m happy to amuse; I’m a jester at heart (not a clown, there’s a difference). Your search for a log is in vain, I do not keep one here (I keep it in my battered blue notebook). I feel like there are plenty of bigger stronger people doing more interesting things with their training. However, since you axed: most recent highlight is a rep PR on DB incline press last night (80x10, then 80x9). I was pleased with that.

Cut those finals apart at the hip, knee, and ankle. Battle your way to bloody victory on the fields of academia!

Edit: I like parentheses.

my only thoughts are good clean ones, I promise!

I think the premise with front squats is to position yourself in whatever way it is YOU find comfy. Personally I take a wider stance, feet pointed out cause I’m a weirdo like that.

Lula: Nice work on the pull-ups! It’s hard sometimes getting over the every rep must be perfect gymnastics mentality. I’m sure your ugly is still very good.

I haven’t been to gymnastics in a couple of weeks so there is no progress to report on my bar routine. Tomorrow–do I dare to find my close set bar setting? I’m not sure!

Kimba: There are good roads to bike on, and it’s a really bike-friendly city. I swear half of the city each morning is walking around in their biker spandex. I do get kind of skeered of the cars though, but I tend to enjoy anything active outside, so I could see myself enjoying it. You ought to give the front squats a try. I like them because they force my abs to work and I feel more outta my ass with them.

Kristoph: Gah! The elbows. Doing them I totally felt like they were sky high, but then I watched the video and to my dismay, not so much. You do amuse, and educate. I very much like your presence in this log! And holy smokes on the PR! I am muy impressed. Feel free to keep me updated on subsequent PRs/random musings. (i like parentheses too!)

MIM: Clean thoughts? This is how much I believe you > <

Side note: All my 130s in here are really 135s. 45+45+45=135 …glad to see I’m bringing the A-game! (hand to forehead)

Today I was that douchebag that I usually yell at for running in the heat—but it didn’t feel bad out today. I almost talked myself out of the run because I didn’t get it in this morning and was feeling tired, so I came up with some games to keep it interesting. I think I’ll stick with this to get my butt out when motivation is low.

8:18 run to the lake

10 second hill sprints: As many sprints as I can to a designated spot without taking longer than 10 seconds. If I do 2 sprints over 10 seconds in a row, I’m done. Today that was 10.

Walked the hill a few times

7:27 run home (goal is to run home faster than I ran there) (with my math skills, I’m not confident in the times now, hah!)

Question for anyone—would you rather…
*Tupelo, Mississippi?
*Wichita, Kansas?

Catch up with the logs later when i’m needing some procrastination

Um, Mississippi?

jealous of your sprints…the few times I did them I lurved them so. :frowning:

running in the heat builds character! plus, it makes it easier for my fat ass to drop weight for competition. I grew up in NE Montana, where in the shade it was 110 during football practice, and there was no tree in sight. lol. just got to make sure you are getting enough liquids in you.

Also jealous of your running, since I can’t right now. Don’t envy the heat, though. I suck when it gets much over 20 degrees (celsius). London heat is very sticky and yucky - when it gets over 25 it feels about 10 degrees hotter than it really is. (Still, it’s nothing like the day I went to Six Flags St Louis - I’ve never felt humidity like that. It was like wading through soup. Ugh).

Great deads, you seem to do them with ease.

Running in heat = crazy person, but I like crazy. But looks like you run in a beautiful place, so why stay in doors?

Nadia: You’re always sneaking in there on me. Go get em today with the bars. I look forward to lots of hip poundage video!

MIM: I think the sprints miss you too. Hope your knee is feeling better these days!

Koubs: Gah! That sounds insane! I’m from da north where shorts and sandals come out as soon as we hit 40, and our cheezy insides start to melt when it gets above 80. We’re supposed to break 100 today and everybody’s freaking out-This must be what it’s like when people in the south get an inch of snow and the whole town goes mad.

Cal: Ugh, St. Louis is generally an armpit (no offense meant to those from there etc…love the city, but it’s hot+humid). I really hope the foot issue gets sorted out with minimal headache.

Minimal: Hi there! Augh, the deads feel hard to me. I never get why picking something off the ground should feel so hard! And running in the heat is crazy-I’ll only do it within reason. However, when winter lasts 6 months out of the year, I try to take every advantage of the beauty/heat as I can!

TRAINING:
A smattering of crap. Whatever, excuses are for bitches. I’ll just come back swinging Friday.

hehe. We are 120 during fire season (which is summer for us), -50 in the winter, monsoons in the spring, and 10+ feet of snow in the valleys. We are easily the most diverse weather climate in the world.

What happened in training? Go at least? Chalk it up as a learning day. Just write down what happened, and learn from it.

That weather sounds crazy. It’s so fascinating though. You guys must always have something to talk about.

Ah alright fine, fine, the training… I went and did a lot of random things I suppose—some chest stuff and single leg step down stuff. A couple complexes and hat not. The problem was I never got an appetite after last night’s run so I had some veggies and that was about it. In general kcals have been low lately as it is. I also haven’t been sleeping much so I pretty much felt like I was running on fumes. I have been getting in a bad habit of this and can feel my body starting to revolt. The basic necessities in life, that’s all a (this) girl really wants.

I title this:

Schooooools, out for summa! (or one week)

or

RIP my right boob, which no longer fills out my bikini

Damn… very sexy  Looks like you are getting things tuned in with training. Sorry about the issues with the food and sleeping. School is about done, so hopefully life and stress will calm down to get back on track.

Nice abs lady!

Have you thought about using a post workout protein shake, to ensure you are getting some good stuff in to promote recovery and strength? Sometimes, even if I don’t have an appetite, I can still force myself to drink some calories! Just a thought.

Lula: You look amazing! Enjoy your summer! Sorry it is only a week. And sorry to hear about the boob loss.

Thanks guys. I’m generally not the exhibitionist sort. I’ve lost ~15 lbs in the past few months and for probably the first time in my adult life, I like the way that I look-and that’s a pretty freeing feeling. I feel like it’s ingrained females to have this self-hatred towards their bodies.

Like that scene in Mean Girls where the girls stand around the mirror and point out things they don’t like about themselves… (shut up, that was lohan at her best. i take that back, parent trap was the obvious best, this comes in 2nd). I just get sick of it and I don’t want to keep perpetuating that cycle. Right now I just feel strong, and healthy-and I want to hold onto that as long as possible. end rambling

YES. I felt awesome going into it today and feel pretty happy about the results. Front squats just felt strong and I saw no reason not to add on weight. Focused on keeping elbows up and driving up thru de ass. Millies I focused on your wonderful advice and drove from my toes through my finger tips. 95# got stuck about midpress but made it all the way up eventually. I had some rib flaring, so something to work on next time. Overall I feel really good about today.

oh and sbmart: again, you with the sage advice. I wish I had you in my head at all times. I really should have done that, I don’t know what I was thinking. But good advice, thank you

Nice job on the front squats and military presses! Way to put your awesomeness to good use.

You should definitely be proud of your body comp progress. That’s what’s awesome about this forum. Everyone is out to cheer on accomplisments, while self deprication is not tolerated well. We are not the friends who will let you stand in front of the mirror knocking yourself. I agree, mean girls and parent trap was the lohan at her best.

Thanks for your kind words. Again, that’s one of the benefits of logging. It helps with troubleshooting. Self assessment is practically impossible!
