Oh Saucy, you’re so… saucy!
Skivvies stretching: vid?
DL max attempt: does squeezing the rump right before help with that lift? Maybe pre-activates the glutes, or something? I’m totally only asking for BB purposes ![]()
squat vid: nice pecs!

Minimal-SMACK SMACK SMACK back to you! Plenty of padding back there, have at it! Why can’t you do pistols? Did I miss something in your log? If it’s strength issue, just start with a raised bench and work your way down, you can totally do it!
Masch: Ah! Thank you! I am pretty thick in real life, don’t let the side angle fool you. I once had a professor tell me that I looked “sturdy,” …HA!
As for lifting ratio—right now I’ve maxed at 225 for squats and DL which equals out to about 1.7% BW. Bench I’m almost at BW (I haven’t maxed out on that, one of these days I’ll suck it up and get a spot for that). Ask away, i’m an open book.
And thank you for the training/form comments!
I also had that glass of champagne in your honor…as well as creme brule…and chocolate cake…and lemon squares (thank goodness I now know the term re-feed so I could convince myself that’s what I was doing…not just being a fatteh! HA!)
Kouba-well thank you sir, that is quite nice to say. And good call on the DB presses. I did them for the first time in a long while that day too and couldn’t believe how heavy they felt for only 15#. I’m making sure to add them in for my next wave.
Cal and MIM-thank you lovely ladies ![]()
Patch: I love it! Bout time there was some inappropriateness in here
I found the essay (and ended up buying the first book of essays which I’m excited to dive into) and you were completely spot on. I loved it, and I found the timing of reading it especially fitting. A side but related note…I found myself listening to NPR on my drive back this evening, so—super geeks unite!
Brute: Ha! Thanks! I love pull ups and I do believe you and miss Nadia (hi if you’re lurking!) have everyone on this site pull upping their little hearts out. I made a goal of 3x10 for the end of the year and haven’t really put much into a plan of how to meet that, so I’m upping the reps for a bit here.
Mainy: My inner competitive soul talks pretty loudly too…and it’s telling yours to bring it! (oh…it’s already been broughten!?) Glad you got it, thanks again!
Jeffrey: Ah! I noticed that ass-squeezing a while back and tried to stop but it never fails that I go for the ass before a big lift. It must be directly linked to my brain’s focus center.
Weekend:
-Did get in 2 early morning runs this weekend. Kimba-I realize this is why I never log them, because i never measure how long or far I go. I usually go out for about an hour with my dog and we kind of just go out and enjoy the morning, going for as long as the legs feel good. I think I’m in the rebellious teen anti-training phase, and am doing it purely for the feel goods.
Deload week plan:
-Green facing it this week to damage control from the weekend and in preparation for Thanksgiving.
-Planning on having fun with (mostly) body weight complexes this week…
Inspired by Patch’s reading recommendations, a favorite quote:
“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

Bums should have padding! Yeah I have pistols on my list of things to do, once I get around to it.
Good quote!
preparing for Thanksgiving, lol.
loveit!
Yes MIM-it’s very serious business ![]()
Miscellaneous training:
Mobility
10x4
push ups
inverted rows
goblet squats
plate raise
roll-outs
400 m (5%, 8.0mph)
YTWLI
Stretching
*Felt like I was moving in slow motion today—my body doesn’t respond well to dirty food and I think I’m dragging from that and post-wedding madness shock. Will likely go for a run later to try to snap it back to normal.

How do you mean?
Lol! Being called sturdy can only be a good thing! You’re doinitrite!
I’m prepping for T-day too! Let the games begin!
I like that little complex. Will steal. Gracias!
I just met up with a guy who does PLing and I am planning on meeting up with him on Monday to re-set my maxes. He is also suggesting that I get into a meet at the end of January. I would like to compete but I’m not sure that gives me enough time to get enough weight on the bar…but it probably wouldn’t hurt to get myself into a meet so I know better on what to focus on. ALSO, there is a PLing gym not too far (Monster Garage Gym, anyone hear of it?) that I might try to get down to sometime soon.
I decided to go on a caffeine holiday and today is day 1 of no coffee. Basically I feel like death.
I’m also trying to figure out the cheapest way to spend my winter break out west snowboarding. Top choices right now include Grand Targhee, Mount Baker WA, or Bridger Bowl, Montana. Any suggestions? All in all, I feel some changes brewing.

based on a 1RM, i think you have more in you for both lifts. 225 max is low imo.

Oh I gotcha. I was like…but I double checked the math!? I’m maxing out monday (right after a de-load, I’m not so sure about that) so we’ll see.

I’m HELLA curious to see how this goes! You’re a strong lil mama fo sho!
I fully co-sign the idea of competing… your weight class… shoot you’re stronger than me and I’m twice your size.
whoa whoa whoa… careful there…no caffeine? AHH! God luck solider…
MEET!!! hurray!!!
do the meet. please. who cares if you don’t think you are ready. you won’t be to be truthful. lol. the first meet is all about experience. how they are ran, the flights, how to warm up and timing it right, etc.
btw, Bridger Bowl. it may be biased since it’s in my state, but it’s beautiful up there.

x2.
Your numbers are more than respectable for a first meet. I opened my first meet with a 110-lb squat (bodyweight). Nobody laughed. By my second meet, I was breaking USAPL state records for my age/weight class. I predict great success for you.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the meet, maxing, training in general, and have been furiously reading 5/3/1 for powerlifting and have concluded a couple things:
*I am going to wait until June for the meet. Really, it’s not about what numbers I put up–I have really only been sticking to a program for the past couple months (and that’s generous) and would like to take time to build my base more solidly. I want to strengthen my weak areas, get my technique down pat, and get to know my body as it responds to the training. January could be possible, but I think the change in programming might be too drastic at this point and I want to trust it.
*Maxing-I guess I don’t see a need to at this point. Plus, last time I did this, my back hurt for 6 weeks and it affected my training. As Wendler states multiple times in the book, you really don’t need to train at that max weight to get benefit, and many times you see a decline in performance (I can’t stop quoting him after reading that book. I’m possibly in love with the man. I’ll probably have to get in line). So I am adjusting my deadlift max to 225 but I’ll just add on the 5# for the other lifts and trust the course.
*I am going to hit the main lifts, assistance, and conditioning hard for the next few months. I’m at the point now that I can really kill it in every area and I’m going to do push my body to do that. I’m also going to add in some heavy singles to get used to the heavier weights.
*Areas I’m focusing on: Dips, HLR (and any and all other HS/posterior chain development), widening my squat stance (a smidge), killing the DL, focusing more on bench (BWx1.5)
*My lifts are ok but I’ve been doing lots of research and there are a lot of strong ass women. I want to be one of them. I think not rushing this and being smart is the best way to get there.
And some training:
Thanks to Tumminello’s article-Thanksgiving day blitz:
x4
A1)Push-up push backs
A2)Front squats
A3)Land mine rotations
A4)1:30 bike sprint
x4
B1)compound row
B2)walking lunges-front loaded
B3)MB mtn climbers
B4) Bench jumps
x4
C1) T-row
C2)Bench step ups
C3)Push up walk outs
C4)bench taps
Then I turkey trotted (8:15 pace)
This morning:
A bunch of hill sprints until my legs said ‘uncle’ followed by a long sunrise walk. the end.
Lula: That sounds like a kick ass plan. I’m glad you’re reading 5-3-1. I know there is a lot of info on the web about it, but reading Wendler’s program in its entirety is the key to understanding it and the philosophy behind it. I think he has many more men devotees though… my husband has a man crush on him. I heart him too. It’s only a little weird.
Oh man i has been robbed. I bought the ebook but it was never e sent to me… and I’ve managed to not bother calling elite fts about it. Fail fail fail. Bad Hallowed.
So I had totally cosignedthe original meet idea… but NOW I hella cosign the new one!
well, for what its worth I think you’ve got a great start for a meet with your current maxes or what might be your maxes. I think the first meet is just to get it over with!! if you win the that’s a plus!
but also meets stress/ed me the fuck out…and whiped me out for a few weeks after. BUT they also gave me great goals to meet.
I don’t think you’ll loose out with your new plan either! ![]()
also i have to ask you, do ytml’s kick your ass or is it just me???!! I can barely use 4 pounds.
