My Baby Got Sauce

like Kristoph said, you are trying to stand straight up. want to feel like you are falling backwards. this will help keep your shoulders behind the bar. a front angle would be better, but I want to say you are dropping your butt too much. think of it like this. can you squat, or half squat more? to achieve this, you need to “loosen” up a bit.

you aren’t going to have a perfect arch, but you don’t want to really round either. what helped me, is I thought of myself as a silver back gorilla. lol. just let your arms hang there. once you pull and get to your knees, start to fall back, and make that ass work. like to see you really explode. this is a brutal, and bloody lift. nothing more primal then this. find something that truly pisses you off, and use it.

though I like how you start off. grip it and rip it. it’s not like those who sit in the position like they need to shit. when it comes to oly lifts, I have no clue. I can clean 225, but that’s just from strength. if I had any form, it would be way better. lol. my suggestion is to have your friend take a look, and submit the video to Steve Pulcinella on elitefts.com Q&A. word of warning. he will oogle over you, but is a smart man when it comes to this stuff.

Pixie: Thanks for the observation. Do you mean balls of my feet at the start of the pull or end? I did feel off balance in that first video. In the second video my friend was telling me to lean forward over the bar before I pull, and to start with my butt up higher, so I really don’t know. Big plates would be nice, just not at my disposal so I’m making due. Oly lifting is fun, but hard. I see the appeal.

Kris-First off, let’s drop the “amateur observation” shtick. Clearly, you know what you are talking about. I’m so onto you. So cleans: full extension with a later pull. The weight is a toy, i like that.

This might be a dumb question–when you pause between reps, do you do that at the bottom or top? Otherwise, pull up and back, pull out the slack, squeeze my ass then fuck the bar (to paraphrase). :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha! Hallowed’s matchy matchy comments in the q&a made me laugh because I’m typically MIS-matchy matchy, but thanks for the outfit props.

And that gentleman happens to be my current gym crush, so lay off! Didn’t I do a good job looking aloof when he so nearly grazed my ass?!

Kouba: First of all, can we get a celebration that you can finally see my videos (cheers, bells, whistles). Ok, I LOVE the silver back gorilla analogy. And with the sitting too low-I guess I’m not sure where the in between is—too high, too low? I’m the goldilocks of deadlifts, I had no idea. Grip and rip. Thanks! (FF update?)

Training

early:
25 minutes high incline walk

Then:

MP: 55x5, 65x5, 75x8

Defranco’s shoulder shocker

Shoulder prehabby stuff

Quick and dirty. Shoulder shocker kills me.

Pic: As I predict most people in Kimba’s life do, I had a hard time denying her. So, here’s a “progress” pic. Things I know:
-Taking progress pics first thing in the morning when I’m nice and dehydrated is cheating.
-As is taking them in wonky low lighting
-And true pics would be full body, and would be of my back side, the area of interest.

I also know that I don’t care. Go ahead and save me a seat on the vain train, ladies.

I don’t see anything wrong with your DLs. No egregious errors at all. My only comment would be that I don’t believe you can’t pull over 200. I don’t buy it. If you incorporate a little more explosiveness and hip thrust, that is.

Picture! Excellent ab definition. It takes real knife-and-fork discipline to have a midsection like that, and I salute you.

Nothing (except photoshop) is cheating in my book. Lighting and angles are tools of the progress pic trade.

I am long-time rider on the vain train. Your seat is saved.

BTW, I loved your deadlifts. I’d take them as my own, if I could. Cleans are a mystery to me, so I will remain silent.

You seem to be on the balls of your feet at the beginning of the lift. It might just be the shoes you’re wearing  It could also be the positioning of the bar. If you’re sitting too far back at the beginning of the pull your center of mass is off and you’ll end up pulling the bar slightly back instead of straight up. One thing I’ve learned is that your shoulders should always be slightly ahead of the bar at the beginning. This balances out the center of mass between you and the bar and you can use all your energy exploding up instead of trying to corral the bar. It’s more evident with the heavier weights.

Take your time resetting if you need to between reps. Better to be a little slower and do them right than pump out 50 and end up with an injury

I have nothing to say about your clean and DL form because to me they look beauteous! And far better than whatever I’ve been doing. But I’m gleaming everyone’s comments for my own edification, so thanks to all!

What I will say is holy canoli, you look fantastic! Loving the abs. DAYUM! And no, there is no cheating when it comes to the definition of muscles. I mean, look at bodybuilders and their fake tans and dieretics (sp?)… And if you think you’re bad, I always take my progress pics mid-cycle when I know my metabolism is full-blast!

<grabs seat on the vain train next to Lula and Kimba, pulls out a bag of trail mix> anyone?

Good news on the article! I’ve always pulled Sumo cuz thats what my coach (not PL coach physique coach) told me to do. i have a SUPER long torso so yay me. doin it right right.

nomnomnom

i have abs…of steel…under my squat/bench enhancing gut. lol. screw the scale if you look like that. keep up the work! btw, how is the whole burning sensation going?

snap: i love when you drop in here. i’m going to try 200 next week, i’m sure that’s against the laws of the 5/3/1 universe but whatever. I tried pulling over 200 a few weeks ago but that was right after I had irritated my leg, and I was pulling a log (?) so the leverage apparently is different. I hope you are right.

Kimba and Masch-Thanks, ladies! Thanks to Masch’s “ride the train” post in her log, and our vain train talk, I’ve been singing that song all week long. Imagining the antics we would get up to also has provided some amusement

Pixie: Augh, the shoes, it all comes back to the shoes, huh? I HAVE actually put some thought into it though, so thank you for planting the seed, although it may be slow growing (i’ve already got my sights on some cute pumas that probably don’t help my cleans one bit). And repping out for glory is fun and in my blood, but you’re right, probably not a good bet on the cleans for avoiding injury. Being responsible is no fun.

hallow: glad you’re on the right course then

MIM: nomnomnom yo’self!

Kouba: The scale still gives me a baby anxiety attack, so I’ll keep my distance. And thanks for asking-burning is still there but not as acute. I’m trying to be smart about it and I’ve been stretching a lot more. Fingers crossed, I haven’t felt that horrible twinge behind the knee in at least a week, so I’m hopeful.

Training:

Bench:
Barx10
70x5
80x5
90x15

Accessory:

5x10
Unilateral standing cable press
Face Pulls
Band pull aparts

5x10
Explosive push-up-burpee-pull up (woof)

Juan Carlos Metabolic Chest x 2
JCC Metabolic Back x 2

Incline walking later

Bench:
*I had a few more reps in me but it was too early for a spotter so I called it early. I have a feeling my max is set too low, these felt easy.
*I decided I don’t HATE bench, it just leaves me really unsatisfied. I like to sweat, these don’t make me do that.
*Widened my grip a 'lil bit, I’m not sure it really made a difference.

Overall:
*School is messing with my schedule and my food<>gym time was too close; felt a little vommy a few times, training fasted would probably be better.
*A giant group of girls came in this morning (for a class?). More power to you ladies, but if all you’re going to do is stand around with your arms straight and then flop them like a bird, pls stay out of mah way. kthx.

good to hear about the pain. also, FF. what a fucking joke this year… the only one I’m paying for this year is starting to come along… have a bit to go, but can place top 4 if I keep going.

Yes who give an F about the scale when you have a well defined vertical line like that. To me that’s about the prettiest thing on abs.

I am meant to be running the New York Marathon this weekend. Selfishly (and in real life, secretively), I’m really disappointed that I’m not there. Instead I will be welcoming a new niece or nephew to the world. New life is pretty cool too. And family will always trump anything else. So, training-couldn’t get as much in as I’d like because time is of the essence at the moment.

Foam/Mobility stuff

Squat warm up SS box jumps

Squats:
135x5
155x5
175x10

5x10
Anderson front squats 95# (these are deceivingly hard, and will be worked in on a consistent basis)
Pistols

Hill Sprints

I’ve got some videos but as the past has proven, it takes me ages to figure out how to do it on the new computer. So, later.

lula, just stopping in to say hi and look at your training, wow abs…I think I have those, about 2" under my bench belly…lol…in my secret vanity I poke at them when lying down.

Congrats on becoming an aunt but sorry you’re missing the marathon. I must admit I’d be pissed off in your situation (but then I’m not a baby person). Excellent training, though!

We’re women!! When is it NOT about shoes? Or clothes? One thing I have noticed women do almost without fail is when someone compliments something they’re wearing, they say thanks then proceed to tell the person where they bought it and for how much. I’ve caught myself doing it and I giggle every time.

And you’re right. Being responsible is no fun but if you are, you’ll be the sexy woman still pumping iron at 60+

Congrats on the upcoming aunthood!

Nothing like a new life to bring about perspective.

LP: Hey! Thanks for checking in. And secret vanity gets a ticket on the train too, welcome

Cal: I’ve had my moments, and yesterday morning happened to be one of them. After being there for my sister and to see the baby the day she was born though, if I missed that I would never forgive myself. There will be more runs. Glad to see you back! :stuck_out_tongue:

Pixie: Being able to train and be a sexy woman when I’m 80 and beyond is really the only goal I truly care about meeting.

Videos because they’re fun:

Squats:

And front squats–Kristoph-does catching the tail end of Britney get any points?

i could watch the videos, but you need to make them public… lol

hi. i’m lula and i’m secretly 95 years old. technology is new.
