I have a lateral deltoid that has been twitching for 72+ hours now! Not every second, but on and off all day. I have had these before, but only for a few minutes. Can anyone clue me into why this is happening???
As background, I did a shit load of home improvement this weekend and of course used my shoulders a lot. They were sore and fatigued, but not too bad. The lateral delt started twitching that Sunday night and is still going today, Wednesday! I have pretty darn rock solid nutrition and hydration, so I’m at a loss to what’s going on with it. I was planning on training shoulders tomorrow, but don’t know if I should?! It’s not painful, but something must be out of whack.
CNS fatigue may be the culprit. I would suggest making sure your getting enough B vitamins and minerals. Also, couple days of reducing your intensity in the gym will probably be needed.
I’ve had this on occasion; it’s usually nothing to worry about. There are three main causes for this:
Just plain stress.
Dehydration.
Potassium deficiency.
So just drink some water and eat a couple bananas. If it’s still twitching at you tomorrow, you might want to go see a doctor, but chances are he’ll charge you a bunch of money for tests you don’t need, then tell you nothing’s wrong and it will stop on its own.
As I mentioned, I eat a very sound diet and get about a gallon of aqua a day. I think it might have been a CNS thing, since the twitches feel like I’m hooked up to the E-stem back in my college football and track years!
I also think I may be over-training my shoulders. In high school I used to never directly train them and ended up being about to BP 300, but not able to get a set of 35# DB for 10 reps in the shoulder press! Now a days, 10 years later, my shoulders seem to be sore a lot - b/n benching heavy, shoulder pressing heavy, and then hitting isolations for the individual delts. I think that’s overkill. I am trying ABBH w/ which there is no direct shoulder work, so I think that will help.
The twitches have stopped though and my light chest and back day felt good last night.
