Mr. Olympia 2011

Ya Jay has a nice easy rythm on his movements in his exercises. He also uses that slight hitch at the bottom of the rep, bringing the weight slightly down before exploding back up when he gets closer to failure. I remember watching a vid with Cedric McMillan where he said he stole that technique from Jay calling them"X-reps."

Seems like just using the stretch reflex as CT reccomends for the majority of exercises too, unless the specific purpose of the exercise is to eliminate the stretch reflex

I think I’ve watched those videos 3+ times today.

Such an unbelievable level of motivation and inspiration, even if you have no interest in body building.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that big experienced guys generally tweak lifts to make them harder (squeaz, slower and controlled, est), where weak small guys do things to make them easier (reducing ROM, cheating, est).
Yep. See it a lot with preacher curls and fixed bar curls at my gym… but then again maybe they are injured?

Last year Jay beat Phil on his quads. Upper body could have gone either way, but Jay dominated Phil in that department. Looking at the lead up videos, not sure Phil has done enough to catch that up. Of course, anything can happen on the day.

Also, I’m not going to win many friends with this, but I’d love to see Jay come in with the sort of size he had in 2006 to beat Ronnie (though obviously with more quad symmetry). That year, his delts were insane, and his rear lat seemed to cast a shadow over the whole stage. Only an in-form Ronnie could have beaten him that day, and I don’t think any of the current crop have shown they are at that level yet. The last couple of years he’s been better conditioned but hasn’t dominated the field with his mass the way he and Ronnie did in their years of battling it out. I’d also like to see Jay (and others) come in with more lower pec mass with that overhang you used to see in the 70s with guys like Arnold and Katz and later with Ronnie and Ruhl - with all the upper-pec fetishism around you don’t really see that much these days, though Vic Martinez and Phil Heath both seem to have it a bit.

Anybody know if they’ll be streaming it again this year?

Awesome, appreciate it.

Im not sure this link is allowed to be posted, if not, sorry MODS.

Haha it’s hilarious if you read through the comments people have made on that Facebook event. A lot of foreigners (which is awesome to see their interest) with some epic grammar.
Funnier still is those dismissing Jay as if being mr. olympia and training ridiciliously “smart” won’t count for anything

A couple were already posted above but thanks for the others bonez… you think he look his best yet? I reckon he looks perfect short of his calfs not popping out/looking softer then I’d like… but I guess that’s teh genetics…

The sparkly turquoise thong is the best part.

LOL. I honestly… honestly had not noticed. It’s funnier because now it looks like they have been 'shopped and re-uploaded to me…

I didn’t even notice what color his thong was. They have all worn all colors. Ronnie had one made of the American flag one year.

Regarding his conditioning 8 days out. The last few shows hes done he’s come in watery on the day of the show after looking great 2 weeks out. It’s probably intentional. He has a different prep guy this year I think.

Kai has a tough road regardless of how big/lean he is simply because of his structure. Hes not that tall and not particularly wide (clavicle:hips ratio). His front lat spread is simply ridiculous though. It’s also hard to grasp how big he actually is wihtout someone standing next to him. His waist being smaller is a big improvement though

I honestly think Phil is who most want to see win this year. I don’t think Cutler winning again will play as well as it has before in light of that. Unless Cutler just takes it to a whole new level, Heath is just showing way more interest and way more potential to go even further.

I don’t know who else is competing, but seeing Kai 3rd and Martinez 4th could really play out.

You know it’s funny Stu, I remember a very early Olympia (pre-internet) that I wanted to see very badly. I think I paid about $8 to watch it live at a movie theater in Chicago. The quality was horrible, and it seemed like they were constantly losing the signal. I guess I am really showing my age here. LOL

Your obviously not looking at the best part of the pics then. Step it up.

(I’m well aware that they’ve all worn everything, and I would to if I had a physique like that. This particular one just caught my attention)

^Actually, what I’m saying is that if you are just looking for things to speak negatively on, you will find it.

Tony Freeman has worn way more flamboyant trunks but no one calls him on it.

Personally, if I was in the shape to stand under hot light and be picked apart by people and come out the winner, the crowd would be lucky that I wore anything at all.

It wasn’t meant to be negative at all, remove the pessimistic lens please. Laugh a little.
