usually 8-9 min miles (my conditioning needs work)

Ok lets make this easier on the eyes…let me know if I missed something:

MON- boxing,no-gi,plyometrics

TUE- boxing,weights,bjj-gi

WED- no-gi,muay thai

THUR- bjj-gi,boxing,weights

FRI- no-gi,muay thai,plyometrics…AND boxing.

SAT- no-gi,muay thai,weights,…AND some field/bleacher work

SUN-REST(aka BED REST with an IV for you…lol)

And that doesn’t include the 3miles you run 4-5 times a week. DUDE!! Let’s have a real moment. Are you really doing this schedule?? Or did you just make this schedule up? I hate to say it,but with that schedule and working 40hrs a week…you wouldn’t even have the energy to make it out of bed. This is damn near impossible. Not IMPOSSIBLE…but damn near, considering that you work full-time with a wife and kids.

Yup.

How short are your legs?

I don’t know how long they are, but they’re not at all short. I went from chicken legs to chafing thighs, on the chafing side of the spectrum it started to negatively affect my ground game.
I’m not flaming but we got 300lb+ guys with stubby legs who still get guard, just not on each other. Triangle chokes for them are a lot more problematic.

I’m sure you get what I’m saying because the stubby legged guys you mention had more difficulty with triangles, I started experiencing the same thing as my legs got bigger. Up to a certain point the added strength and maybe even size felt helpful, then it became too much.

I started a new log ( Forums - T Nation - The World's Trusted Community for Elite Fitness ) but my basic schedule (BJJ) is:

M - Gi
Tu- No Gi
W - Gi
Th - Dance, Gi
Fr - MT (I’m not loving it though and may just drop it)
Sa - Gi
Su - No Gi

Our BJJ classes are 3 hours, a really basic 15 min warm up (it really just makes you warm), 2 hours of learning technique, then we usually drill/roll until everyone is done.

Today, 1 hour sparring with Gorgeous Bastard, ground & standup.

Same old, same old: I’m on top in his guard smacking him in the head, he scissor sweeps me, mounts me, & pins my arms under his knees, then starts giving me 1,000 fast patty-cake slaps all over my face, going “OOOOH, this is fun!” while I scream “GODDAMMIT!!!” This only happens once or twice a session, but I think he looks forward to it.

The good news: I finally actually blocked & prevented some sweeps & takedowns. It didn’t matter, he’s so big he just muscled me more & took what he wanted, but it was nice to make him work harder. He’s also putting more power behind his kicks now, & yelling, “Suck it up, GO!” So that’s making me happy.

I think I’m starting to see the faintest glimmer of light at the end of the “Parker sucks at sparring” tunnel.

Ms.P how can they do such things.
I love the new avatar…

I had some work done on my Neck today and it feels remotely human vs milk crate of rusty chains.
So Ill be visiting a judo gym this tuesday.

kmc

Glad you’re feeling better kmc!

More sparring today, hour and half with the Gentleman. He is much smaller than GB, and not nearly as strong, but faster than a spider monkey on meth.

I’ve decided to start these sparring sessions with my boys doing groundwork. I just act like a shy little mouse when we start by standing up, but on the ground something clicks in me and I just GO. Fortunately, this carries over when we stand back up, so we’ll try it this way & see if it helps.

Of course we’re kravvers, no BJJers, so we’re not going for arm bars, heel locks, etc. We’re just punching each other, going for chokes, searching to land a blow to the temple or throat, blah, blah, blah.

I also got punched in the vagina today. I guess turnabout’s fair play.

um ya thats 100% correct man lol thats why the originale quetion is was how can i free up sum time my girl cant take this forever i almost never see my girls and ya most of sunday im on the couch chillin Eddie Bravo stile lol and eatin everything in sight fallin in and out of what most would consider a comatose state.so buy buy the time i wake up ya theres usually a tear or 2 shed b4 i hit the road but i did find a new place down the block from where i train that trains judo, bjj gi or no-gi, and submission wrestling all in a row 45 mins a peice so roughly 2hrs15mins a piece on tues, thurs, sat.

Im thinkin switch my original classes with these but its 45 bucks more for well considerably more free time. But im worried it may impede my training but its also more rest so im tetering on this one. Thoughts?

I think most of us find this training a little hard to take- or believe.

in that this seems like a very large work load and cost. for someone whom seems is a beginner in MMA or Bjj,

I trained 2 two 3 times a day for 6 days a week, in college for wrestling- and about that much for club wrestling or judo , that is the equivalent to doing it full time-

I find it hard to believe that someone with work, wife kids can attempt such a schedule
and show any kind of progress.
Maybe this is my nice way of saying , are you really doing this kind of training?

kmc

Agreed. And if that’s you in your avatar it makes even less sense. With that kind of aerobic andanaerobic workload, I have a hard time believing that you’d be carrying any sort of bodyfat. The only thing I can think is that you’ve been doing this for about two weeks and the shit hasn’t hit the fan for you yet as far as burning out or getting sick.

Crossfit this morning (puts on flame retardent suit)

3 rounds of
50 squats (no weight)
400 meter run (yay! I brought my dog today, he loved it)
25# push press 20 reps

would have been more weight for the guys on push press, this is a ladies only class

With crossfit, probably not…

ya man um only prob. with thet your correct i couldnt do this training then its sad but thats a pick from me when i was 17 years old i was on a highschool powelifting team & had only been training muay thai and a little boxing from time to time. Im 20 now, got into drugs n shit so we’ll put it this way started @ 245 im sittin @ 175 right now.I got out of that shit for my boy and we’ll my life. ya its extreem but ive always had the belief that i wasted alot of time in my life, so i dont want to waste my sons so im tryin to do the best i can wile i can. Give him a good life & honostly this is the only thing i have ever excelled @ so i put a little more effort into it than i need 2 ya!

And yes that Thats alot of the problem i mentioned earlier. I am burning out FUCKN HARD i walk around like a zombie have the time and yeah im still in early staring Im @ 6 weeks today,

The Judo tournament yesterday was a lot of fun. Took third in my weight class. Won 2, lost 2. My bracket was tough. We were running on 2 mats, and I ended up fighting 4 rounds in 15 minutes. I lost my first match, but my coach said it should have been mine. I threw my opponent, but the ref gave him a wazari because of the way that we landed. Then he north/southed me (worst position ever!) until time ran out.

I won my 2nd match with an ipon… single leg takedown with a foot sweep. I won my 3rd match on points… I scored a wazari with a bench throw with 5 seconds left in the round. I lost my 4th match on points. My opponent dropped me with a single leg takedown then pinned me. My arms somehow ended up in his gi which left me unable to figure out a way to escape.

There were several opportunities that I missed and I got seriously gasses, so I know there are some things to work on for the state championships in Oct. But overall, I was pleased with how things went.

I work 40 hours a week and have two little girls to take care of yet I still get BJJ in 4-5 times a week plus lifting and conditioning. If one really thinks about the simple act of turning off the tv saves more time in one’s day than anything. Wrath’s workload seems high but if his intensity is low then I can see it easy. And if you don’t have any family obligations there is more than enough time to kill with training.

Here is a video of me having a bad day squating. I’m 6’3 and don’t have skinny legs yet have an average guard. I think the leg size is more dependant on body type and than strength numbers.

However, as my left shoulder continues to improve, my right shoulder is steadily in more pain. I think I’m getting tendonitis or something from all of the punching. I’ve cut the direct shoulder work, and I can’t quite throw good hooks- I stick to straight punches or else it gets too sore. FML.
Sounds as if you’ve got an imbalance between your pec muscles and your rotator cuff muscles on your back. Happens a lot when the chest get a lot more loading than the back (ie punching, benchpressing). Try, each time you train to do some specific rotator cuff exercises. Charles Poliquin had some good stuff on this in one of his books, so give him a try.

Also, I’ve tryed doing general upper back exercises (pull-ups, chins etc.) to prevent this problem happening myself and it doesn’t work, so stick with the rotator cuff stuff.

Good Luck, and if it doesn’t get better in a month find a good sports physio
