Just wondering if anyone is more creative or clever than I am…I recently started a program that requires a lot of micro-loading (as it is a program based on wave-loading). In the past I have used either 1.25 or 2.5 lb plates when doing barbell exercises, and PlateMates (little 1.25lb magnetic attachments) when doing dumbell work to achieve the same response. My gym just brought in new dumbells that have rubber (or some sort of rubber composition) weights, rendering my PlateMates useless. Are there any types of products one can buy to micro-load with these types of dumbells, or does anyone have any better ideas than taping my PlateMates on to the dumbell? Thanks for the help everyone.
I have the same problem, I just use the olympic bars and attach the platemates to the bar itself.
Based on Paul’s response, I just wanted to clarify that this is only a problem when it comes to dumbell work, as the dumbells are comprised of the rubber composition material…barbell and EZ bar work are not a problem.
I had the same problem at my gym. If the dumb bells are just coated, you should be able to attach the platemate to the inside of the weight stack. Hope this helps.
dude just bring in some duct tape or steal some atletic tape from the training room, then tape 'em on.
vinne q and art did this all the time, plus chuck won’t mind. as far as the BAC screw those dudes, if they don’t want you to do it use more tape.
before my gym got platemates, I used to wear 2.5 pound soft wrist weights to make the jump between DB’s. Unfortunately, they were pink, but a TMan’s gotta sacrifice a little dignity every once in a while to get results! (plus they’re cheap…probably about 15 bucks or so).
Thanks for the responses fellas…jaytruly, Chuck is always giving me shit these days…he’ll just have to deal with it.
