GVT Microloading

Hey dudes,

I’m currently on a cycle of GVT and I wanted to know if you had any tips for micro loading dumbbells. Obviously in this case a 5% load in many cases does NOT equal the standard 5 lb increment and thus would defeat the purpose of the program. I’ve heard of plate mates, but my gym uses dumbbells coated in rubber.

I was wondering if this would work: for an exercise like incline curls I was going to take 1lb ankle bands and put them on my wrists. Would this work or is it dumb?

I have found doing a drop-set to be an effective alternative (and not just for GVT). For example, if you can do 10 reps with 40lbs for your incline curls, the next session you shoot for 5 reps with the 45s and 5 reps with the 40s in each set. Then you progress by increasing the number of reps with the heavier dumbbell while decreasing the number of reps with the lighter (e.g., 6 & 4, 7 & 3) until you can do all 10 with the heavier DB.

Great idea actually. Didn’t Think of that.

I like that idea as well.

You can temporarily duct tape 1.5’s (Wal-Mart) to the dumbbells. Ugly but it works.
