So I’m making an app with a training/diet focus, and am just curious:
If you used an app, what would you want/need, and what do you wish you had that isn’t in any app currently? Regardless of possibility, it MIGHT be doable lol.

a training log app. So when i get home i can look at my actual notebook and fill it in on my phone.
if you want it to be a good app,
besides the obvious things,
i would incorporate a syncing to google/apps or any other database manager.
Good idea. I’m thinking what I’d have it sync with currently, since I’m thinking of using some heavy analytical stuff for more “involved” users. Perhaps it’d just be a layout thing. Sorry if I’m being vague.
is this going to be a free app or a cheap app? what did you envision?
I think your functionality will depend greatly on this.
I mean, even if you do something simple like sync the APP data with a cloud server, into a XML format or whatever,
then user can simply import it into their Excel.
I’m thinking a modular model. The basics that everyone would want (run tracker, log, calculators, simple stuff) for like $0.99 (maybe just free), with maybe 1-2 upgrade options that’d include the more obscure, cool stuff.
Well I have 0 financial support, so anything that involves hosting my own server will be a no-go. I could possibly sync it with like Drive or something, but I’m unsure. I’m new to connected stuff, I am but a lowly C# intermediate, and will be starting fresh with Android Studio and Java.
are you writing the code yourself?
I wonder if it’s possible to send the data as RSS into a cloud server and have it update ‘Widgets’ via a push function.
That way, someone could have this widget on their desktop, and as soon as they entered in data into their phone app, it synced with the widget on their desktop.

I use dropbox to hold a excel workout log. You can edit it on your computer and phone, and type in the workout on the phone at the gym. When you get back home it automatically updates on your laptop. Paperless baby. It’s the shit

I think if you are able to present a well-written application, it won’t be a problem to find backing (or free hosting) until your APP gains traction in the community.
Maybe. Again, I’m closer to a newb than a vet, and no basically nothing about networked experiences. But I’ll have to learn because people love to brag and be social. Just look at CrossFit.

True, true. It’s on the table, but I’m not counting on it. My luck is like that.
I really wanted to do some cool trend analysis stuff. Like, for example (this is very simplistic and of obvious fault)
Ceteris paribus, we can infer, with decent accuracy (more data = better) that you show higher satiety on the latter.
And I might have a cool chart for users who want it, or a simple pop-up suggestion for those who don’t care (“Our data shows you respond well to low fat, etc etc”)
If anyone uses this same setup, I found out how to copy sheets. It won’t allow you to do a simple “create copy” of the sheet. But, if you highlight the cells on the sheet and copy them you can paste them on your new sheet. I do all the main spreadsheet editing on my laptop, and just type in my weigh in weight, date, and reps on my workout on my phone at the gym. I use my phone for listening to my music while working out, and can skip songs on the lock screen. Then when I unlock my phone, I don’t exit out of dropbox, it’s right there waiting on me. Seriously, it’s the shit

Cool. I just use Evernote usually. I’m more interested in putting together a “do everything” fitness app. No need to have like 5 different apps for different things, just one. Everything in one place. Not only to make money, but even just for myself (some of the features are literally going to get used by all of 3 people lol). I can say no more muahahahaha.
I think you’ve found a pretty decent niche here. I use gym goal plus to log my workouts. However, it’s not perfect.
A better exercises library, more free weight lifts especially. Also a 1RM calculator (check out gym goal’s) that not only calculates 1RM but shows the percentages leading up to it and what weight they represent. That way not only can it calculate 1RM, but also percentages off a training max (for those who use % based programs such as 5/3/1) If I think of anything else I’ll let ya know

Yeah I remember whipping something like that up a while back for my own training, in 2.5% increments. If anything it’s just tedious to go from 2.5-100%. Thanks! Already have them on my growing list of features, including specific templates for things like 5/3/1 or Coan/Phillipi (spelling?).
