Hey guys…im sorry for so many posts but i just come upon so many questions for myself. im too much of a perfectionist.
So ive been on a diet and ive lost some weight and seeing results through the mirror. I want to cut down to like 180 (im 200 now and 6"2) im gonna start playing college ball and im going to be a guard so i have to be quicker so i wanna drop my baby fat.
i did bench press yesterday and today i was like heck let me try and see if i can still hit 220 on bench press since im losing weight to make sure im not losing muscle. so i tried it and couldnt seem to get it all the way up. you think this is cuz of im losing muscle or just since i did bench the day before (WSSB 2) and im feeling sore and couldnt do it?
What can I do to really maintain all of my muscle and just gain RELATIVE STRENGTH while i drop to 180? im on the t-dawg diet currently and taking fish oil, BCAAs and green tea fat burner capsules and im on the WSSB 2 program. PLEASE I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS! thank you all i really appreciate you guys and this site.
Yes it could be either or both losing muscle and the fact you benched the day prior
How diet slow lift hard. You need to keep the loads High volume lower you cant recover as well. That and go slow
I will also add man id really think about dropping to 180 and your current strenght level. Is that really going to help your game. Id say youd be better off staying your same weight or even a bit heavier and concentrate on performance and strength, getting faster, stronger etc. 6’2" 180 is a paper weight no matter how you look at it or the sport
i am going to get faster while dropping weight. i mdoing wssb 2 and its helping my strength gains. i dont want to get any bigger…i just want to drop my fat and increase strength…no more added muscle…i feel lighter like this and quicker and im obviously gonna get faster cuz im sprinting too…
REVERT BAACK TO OLD QUESTION.
cant i still gain RELATIVE strength while dropping to 180? if so, why is it a big deal that i want to drop my fat if im still going to get STRONGER
OK LOL first you say help I think I may be losing strength
"PLEASE I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS!
because
i did bench press yesterday and today i was like heck let me try and see if i can still hit 220 on bench press since im losing weight to make sure im not losing muscle. so i tried it and couldnt seem to get it all the way up
then you contradict yourself by saying the following when I give what anyone can, My opinion, and the help you ask for
i mdoing wssb 2 and its helping my strength gains.
and this

OK which is is bro. are you making strength gains or are you not?? if wssb 2 was helping you make strength gains then how in the hell were you not able to lift a load that you could prior. That sure dont sound like making strength gains to me
again yes you can preserve or maybe make gains I told you simply how LIFT HARD, LIFT HEAVY, Keep the volume LOW you are not eating to recover
why does it matter?? it really doesnt to me, just dont feel bad when some player on the other team whos also 6’2", and well 200-210 at the least is stronger then you, faster then you, jumps higher then you and by sheer numbers can easily push you around the court and man handle you due to that extra weight he carries.
What im saying is your an athlete not a model and what should be #1 to you is not some scale number or appearance but performance
Dude, you are one of the few people who should hire an “online strength coach.” Most do not need one. But you seem to have had 10,000 random questions since you joined. It would be best for you to have someone who could be familiar with you and thus would have some continuity/context with which to deal with your questions.
As Phill noted, you contradict yourself constantly in this one thread alone. You seem like a legit but overeager dude who doesn’t really know what his goals should be. You realize you need to do something — You just don’t have a clue what that “something” is. So you keep changing things, and you keep asking questions about brand new situations almost weekly.
That’s not a dig. Like I said, you seem like a good kid. But you are seriously confused. Your best option is to get some help. Get a guy/gal you trust and stick with him for a while.
There are lots of people who have affordable rates. You could even start a new thread asking for input on it.
BP is only one function of strength or a measurement. What are your other lifts like? How are your Oly lift numbers? Squat numbers? How are your 0-40 times?
If your not improving your cutting too much carbs/ food from your diet to improve. You will have to introduce more of them.
I’m faced with this issue also. I need to keep my weight down to 85Kg to lift. I have been cutting carbs to about 60-100g per day for the past month. My lifts are going up but for how much longer? If my lifts stop increasing it basically means I’m not able to OLift better whilst cutting my weight. I’ll increase to 94Kg then.
As we train many atheletes in my gym, I agree that Phil and Cali-law are both absolutelely correct. I’m just a powerlifter now but played sports all my life. Not at your level, but played. It is almost impossible to loose weight, especially fat when your trying to gain true strength. Fat is not that bad, especially 13%.
My body fat four 4 years in the Marines was always 12%. I lifted hardcore in the Marines as I do now, but I didn’t really get stronger until I got out and could gain weight. Example: In the Marines I weighed approx 170 at 5’9". I was over weight in Marine standards and had to get weight waivers, but my body fat was well below the standard limit so I got passed for wieght control.
I could only bench 315 or so in the Marines and poorly squat 405. Now I’m 240 w/ about 16% body fat benching 485 to 495 raw, and squatting 700 raw. If I loose any weight my numbers drop significantly. I tried to diet down last year to loose my fat and my strength got hit hard. I looked much better but my lifts were junk.
Now as an athelete it may be OK to weigh 200 lbs w/ some light BF because your active and you body knows how to move in your current state. In all honesty your probably going to get heavier in the next few years due to your strength gains. Speed comes from strength. The 2 combined are power. Don’t compromise one for the other. Work on both of them w/ equal intensity.
You’ll agree in the long run. As long as you know your working hard, you’ll get results one way or another. Since you lack the knowledge and experience to channel your efforts, go find a REPUTABLE TRAINER, and get to work.
Remember too that not all written programs work for everyone. I train under a Conjugate style of Powerlifting but also due conditioning work and cardio to recover. So right now your in a pickle because your trying to develope in your sport and your sport is not weightlifting. Don’t sweat the small shit like bench #'s. Sweat your 3 point and assists.
No no no. Gain weight then drop back to 200 while changing the content of your diet. That way you stay strong.
Or change diet (reduce carbs, increase fat and protein), keep weight the same but change composition. Then you stay strong.
Carbs are protein and fat sparing, meaning you store the latter two. If you reduce carbs, increase good fats that the body can use for fuel and that reserves the protein for growth. This changes your lean body mass and your weight can stay the same as you possibly get stronger.
i ahve been eating a lot of good fat…flax oil and fish oil…taking BCAA’s and Surge… on the t-dawg diet…i actually went in today and still was able to do 220 with more ease then before and ive dropped weight too (fat). so i guess im doing something right and i will be able to gain strength while dropping fat?

Of course you can do but to how much longer and to what degree? Just keep doing what your doing as you don’t seem to be taking any advice here.
