Lower Leg / Knee Pain?

Hi.

I have been having this pain in my right knee that has been bothering me for awhile now. I would say, maybe 4 months, maybe a little longer. It has kept me from squating (deep squatting), because whenever I go deep in my squats, and get past a certain point, I start to feel pain in my knee.

Now I would like to know something. Can knee pain come from having lower leg pain as well?

I ask this, because I never had issues with my knee intill my lower leg also started to hurt. I remember how my lower leg pain started as well. I was warming up, and stretching. I was down in a deep squat up on my toes (I know you are suposed to be flat on your feet, but I was trying to imrpove my flexibilty so I could go flat footed) trying to strectch to get ready for squatting. While I was doing this though this time. I started to feel pain from my right leg. The pain was comming from the lower half of the leg, on the right side.

So I got up, out of the squat, and felt where the pain was comming from, and notice that I had some swelling on the area. So I thought nothing of it, and continued on doing what I was doing. So after a couple of training sessions go by the swelling is still there, and the pain in that area is still there as well. So I thought that I needed to take a break off from doing that stretch as it seems like I might have injured myself.

After I take some time off, even putting ice, and heat on it the swelling still didn’t go away. So I go back to training to see what it would be like, but I did not include that strectch. Then when I started to squat though. I belive that is when I started to feel pain in my knee. Mostly the outter side of the knee, and back of the knee. I had to stop squatting, because of the pain I had in my knee.

So its been like 4 or 5 months since then, and my knee pain is still there, as well as the lump, or swelling. Which ever one it is. I asked around, and tried everything people have told me I should try out. Like strengthening your quads, hamstrings. Stretching them also. Nothing seems to help though. So it seems like it isnt my quads, or anything. Its that swelling, or lump thats bothering my knee. To be more specific to where it is. I will try to get a pitcure to point it out, but its on the right leg. Lower half of the leg, on the right side. Its about a couple of inches from the ankle. It seems like it is on the muscle that runs along the side of your leg.

I would really like to get this handled, as I would really like get back to squatting lol.

So anyone know whats going on?

Alright got a pitcure.

The swelling is in the area of the Extensor digitorum longus, and the Fibula. No wonder why it seems like it is affecting my knee. Its seems those two places are connected right where the pain in my knee is.

Um, have you visited an orthopedist?

go to the doctor… could be a dozen different things… did I say go to the doctor… go to the doctor already… repeat and rinse…

So you thought nothing of it ? ? ?

It hurts and it is swollen, and you thought nothing of it ? ? ?

And after a few sessions you decide it must be the stretching, so you skip the stretching ? ? ?

No wait: you even put ice on it ! ! ! Even ? ? ?

And then you limp around for 4 months. Asking other people for advice. Stupid people, since no-one told you to go see a doctor.

Listen Mark. I don’t want to be harsh on you. But you should have stopped immidiatly after you felt that pain. And you should have iced immediatly, either at the gym or as soon as you got home.
And you should have skipped the squatting for a few weeks at least (preferably 6 weeks). And if the stretches continued to hurt, you should have visited a docter.

I’m worried about you Mark.

This is 100% correct. So is the post that said it could be any of 100 things. See a doctor so you can get referred to someone competent.

That is outstanding advice! What has me laughing my ass off is that it came from a guy with the screen name Wreckless. Ironic, no? Hope you leg feels better dude. -Aaron
Oh yeah, and go to a doctor.

Alright, alright. So I went to the doctors to go get it checked out. Told him how everything happened, and showed him the lump I was talking about. He said that the lump would have nothing to do with my knee pain, and that it is just a something tumor lol. Can’t remember what exaclty it was called. Went on through the examination to see what was wrong with my knee. The doctor couldn’t figure out exaclty what is wrong with it, so they have to order a MRI to figure it out.

Although the doctor said it wasn’t the lump in that area that is causing my knee pain. I still say that it is, or part of the problem. I mean, my knee was never bothering me before the lump was there.
