Lower Back Impact Injury

Heyas T-Nationites.

I’m currently in BC and have been doing a fair amount of downhill biking… As is the eventuality with this game, I kind of took an awkward, high-speed bail on a stunt and ended up landing on the corner of a two-by-four with my lower left back (think kidney area, but not quite). It seems that there is no bone/spine damage, but there seems to be tissue damage. Moving is very painful (when I walk, I look like Bernie from “Weekend at Bernie’s”) as it seems that every bloody muscle in my body connects to that spot.

Of course, I should go see a doctor, but I am holding off on that until I am home next week and can see people who know me and what I do. A trip to a physiotherapist will also likely be in the cards to make sure everything is in alignment.

And so, my question to those who have suffered a similar injury is this: What did you do to get yourself back in the game as quickly as possible? Stretching? Medical assistance? Shots of Jack Daniels? I hope it isn’t one of those “Time heals all” deals, as that would be quite boring…

Lay on a stiff surface. Take an anti-inflamitory and muscle relaxers and vicodin…that’s why you need a dr. now. Booze can work too. If you are past the first 48 hours heat the injury. Otherwise Ice it.

Heh heh heh… That stiff surface bit is tricky.

I’ve been icing a lot, and have some heavy-duty anti-inflammatories from a previous injury, but nadda on the muscle relaxers. What would you recommend here, or is this another prescription area?

I have never been one to take much for pain killers… Not because I think I am that tough, but because I seem to have it in my head that I don’t like them. It’s stupid, but it’s the way it is. Vicodin seems like something I don’t want to mess with unless I absolutely have to.

Regardless, I may see a doctor sooner (ie. tomorrow) if things don’t begin to get better.

Thanks for the reply.
