Hurt My Lower Back

Ok so I screwed my squats up. I wasn’t lifting heavy, or so I thought but apparently I was lifting wrong. So now my back hurts somewhat fierce.

I can’t make it to a doctor for another 10 days or so.

I plan to lay off the squats and find some good leg strengthening exercises that arn’t too hard on my back.

My question is, should I exercise my lower back beyond what I do in a normal day.

Should I try to strengthen it any, or just leave it alone untill I can see a doc?

I guess what I’m getting at is, if I wake up tomorrow with no pain what so ever and I feel great, should I do anything to strengthen my lower back so that it doesn’t happen again?

Of course sure if you have no pain work the damn thing attack the weak spot.

Im not sure if were on the same page. Are you injured?? or do you hurt?? big difference. hurt happens squattuing works the back and whole body and yes it hurts. Now are you hurt, or injured did you just have a good training session,

Do you live on a remote island with only one computer, a squat rack, and a boat that only comes around once every ten days?

Does an oil rig count? It’s about 100 miles from the coast and there around 80 people on board.

Anyways yeah I injured myself as its very different from muscle soreness.

Only one side hurts, and its not when I recruit the muscles in everday activity that it hurts, as would be normal for muscle soreness. If i lean over however, or over extend myself, it hurts bad. If I sit wrong it hurts. I have to pretty much maintain perfect posture, or it hurts. That and there was a burning sensation that’s gone now, but it was only on one side of my lower back and extended partway down my leg.

That being said, I feel much better today, so I wont worry about the doctor visit unless the pain gets progressivly worse. Once I feel up to it, I will probably add squats back into my regimin, but only body weight squats for a while, once I feel comfortable with body weight squats, which could take one session, or longer, I will add a light weight and try front squats. In the meantime I will strengthen my lower back.

I think what really happened was I tried to pick up too much, and had bad form on the squats.

From what you describe, it would be a very good idea for you to see your doctor, even if your symptoms subside.

Yup. An oil rig would qualify!

You sound like you piched a nerve, possibly through a disc herniation. The good news is that they usually correct themselves. You should see a doctor though. At a minimum, some anti-inflamatory drug would be in order. Maybe try Flameout by Biotest also.

I will say based on the soreness I would avoid heating pads and go straight ice in intervals. Like 10 minutes on ice, 60 off, then repeat for a while when you have a break. This will help with the inflammation. Heat only makes inflammation worse.

Yeah im pretty sure myself that I pinched a nerve.

I can try to get in as soon as I can. They have a medic out here, but I would rather not involve him at all unless it becomes necessary. Simply because I dont want them to take away the gym, or stop me from going, and also because I likely would have hurt myself just the same at home so…

I do plan on seeing a doc, I just did not know how urgent it was that I go.

I had a slight lower back injury while doing jerk recoveries in the power rack. Was tired after doing a max triple in the front squats. I stepped to the side a bit, but since the power rack limited me from moving to get control of it, I leaned or turned a bit too much to one side before I dropped it.

Next time, I will drop that bitch sooner! I am taking anti-inflammatories and resting it up. Luckily, it wasn’t bad…I think it is important to learn how the injury occurred so you can hopefully avoid future injuries. Good luck.

The faster you find out the problem, the faster you can get back to training.

I know what I did wrong, aside from picking up too much weight.

Anyways, it feels great today. I have a two day break. then I have chest, arms, and shoulders. Another break, then legs.

Lower back injuries are amazingly complicated. A physiotheripist is the place to go, not a doctor.
