Hi guys,I used to workout at home for many years and recently switched to the gym because I wanted space as my family member had also been using our small gym.Anyway,in order to protect myself I have had always used an earpiece when I am there because I don’t like to be distracted or hear what others say, maybe I am selfish.I am trying to stay as humble as possible, but I also don’t want to do everything I can there without getting injured.Am I very selfish even though I paid money and is just a member?
If you want to wear head phones in the gym because you don’t like to talk then go for it. Just don’t be rude if someone says hi. In terms of protecting yourself from what others say, I wouldn’t worry too much. Very doubtful they are talking about you.
I used to do bodyweight stuff at a park where there are a lot of people playing basketball.I can hear them screaming loudly and sometimes saying sexual stuff which does affect me as I was at a catabolic state during the workout
Just listen to your music, don’t monopolize multiple pieces of equipment, clean up your sweat, and focus on the workout. Everyone at the gym is focused on themselves, so you’re practically invisible.
You’ll be fine.
Also, you aren’t “just a member,” you are a paying member. Take advantage of what you paid for. You’re not a second tier life form.
There are people there not totally focus, like they will be talking and using their social skills to either affect others or make other lose focus.I seen people talking on the phone chatting for up to 6min,although I am focus but I saw that and didn’t turn and look at him because what’s the purpose?
But it’s semi-compeitive inside,so everyone can do whatever he/she wants as long as they are not banned and can still tap the card and get inside
Protect yourself from what?
Some people are busy talking that they take up spaces and when I finished a set and wanted to use for example flat bench, and they are still talking and I would need to go and ask?So I rather wear my earphone and focus and move intelligently,if the flat is taken then I would just use the incline or machine
Wtf are these posts? OP is a troll or in serious need of medication.
Why?
How are these things related?
Every good friend i have - lifts. I met most of them as a byproduct of lifting.
I thought you were trying to be humble?
Never. Asking to use commonwealth equipment for your own benefit is a horrible abuse of authority.
Just go fuckin ask, dude.
“How many sets you got left?”
“You good if i work in?”
Jesus.
I have social anxiety,or anti social personality.I am not well liked.Hence I am worry people might bully me or I will embarrass myself so much.
Ya I want to stay humble but also remain on my fitness goal while not affecting others vice versa.Saw many video on YouTube that scares me,not lifting injury but like fighting quarrel all that stuff.
I also saw people break their leg on leg press with a lot of weight:fearful:
Is English your first language?
Tamil is my first,I learnt some English in school
By chance are you autistic? Not being disrespectful since my only nephew is.
I was diagnosed with mental health issue in the past, but seriously the medicine don’t helped. The worst of all is sexual side effect,if not I have no problem taking them. The medicine also made me more tired in general, but it does boost my mood
I think the same advice applies here as in you other post on this topic.
Don’t leave your home. If you’re uncomfortable around people and people are uncomfortable around you, avoid them. Everyone wins.
How old are you @Mobc1990? Are you interested in improving socially or would you rather avoid it altogether?
what’s your advice or tips?
Well, that’s a little backwards. My question is whether it’s something you want to change. Change is inherently stressful, so it has to be important enough to you before we start tackling actions. If I just start giving you a laundry list of tips and you’re not bought in, I’m just giving you reasons to stay the same. We can do that at default, so it’s an unhelpful waste of our time.
And either answer, yes or no, is fine, but the question matters.
I was seeing psychiatrist for 10 years and was prescribed medicine and took them. The professor said that there is nothing he can do except that I can only help myself and what he can help is recommend therapy which I did with three different therapist. He did said it is part of my personality,no medicine could help even anti anxiety meds cannot help.I mean I am sort of used do being a hermit currently.I think I won’t change for now, hopefully in the future I would get changed with time
