Littlelee Lifting And Sleeping Log

I work in Engineering. My decisions rarely effect anyone emotionally, but can have pretty significant safety impacts should my decisions not be supported by the facts/resources I have at my disposal.

@donnerschweer - thank you for sharing your experience with different nurses at your fathers passing. I suppose having some experience under my belt is helpful. I am feeling more comfortable with my decision. How was YOUR experience dealing with these different nurses?

@littlesleeper - others safety is also stressful, maybe more logically then emotionally. Guess we all have our strengths!!! Guess being an emotional mess is mine (but keeping it together at the same time)

It was a strange day. I had to be at the hospital at 6 am for a day surgery (lymph node removal). So I arrived earlier to see him. He had been hospitalized a few day before.
He did open his eyes said hi to me and doze off.

The nurse, the same one that will be back in the evening said he had a good night. He was having difficulty breathing. The doctor was not there. I called my mom to let her know how I found him.
Some time while I was in surgery the hospital called my mom to ask her to come in. So my boyfriend drove her. He was suppose to do that anyway. I got released from surgery very fast as I was going down to the ER. When I got there they informed us of my dad condition and we decided to do the end of life care.

The very nice nurse was now working, the hospital is over loaded so he worked very hard at finding us a quiet place so we could have more privacy. The nurse was very good at explaining what he was giving my dad and why and when we could ask for more. Not that we needed those information, my mom is a pharmacist. He even came to say good bye before leaving and stay with us a few minutes. He talk about his personal experience with his father. My brother was very emotional and the nurse was very kind with my bro.

The younger one was stress and cold. At one point my father started to have very labored breathing. (Agonal breathing) I asked for his medications. She had some difficulty with the catether. I had to ask her to go get some help, which she did.
My father past a few minutes after the injection, we found her and told her that he had pasted. She got all nervous and was feeling like it was her fault that she gave him the medication just before.

Being the science person, I know what was going on, the time line was not in our control. That is the frustration, I am so used to dealing with animals. And we decide to end the suffering so we know when it is happening. This time we had to sit and wait.
My father went fast, it is a bit of a surprise how fast it happen. From a maybe pneumonia on thursday night to passing on the monday evening. He had dementia for many years so we were not going to do anything more then antibiotic, as he had not much quality of life prior of that.

Thank you for sharing your story. I always wonder what the difference is between a nurse who provides excellent care and comfort during end-of life care, and those who do not. It is not a question I would ever ask when people are grieving.
I am glad that you had some quality care with your dad, and the experience with suffering animals to help you make a decision.
Even when families have admitted their loved ones into palliative care, they are still quite shocked at the difference between medical and palliative care.
Again, thanks for sharing.

Elbows and triceps did not have fun today.

Ok workout. Look bloated, with low energy, most likely because water intake and calories have been low the last few days.

My knitting project failed. Back to the drawing board.

Taking a few days off!

1.) It is my 16th year wedding anniversary today, going out to out fave resturant, and want to be able to celebrate!

2.) I have been very sore, tired and grumpy. I think my body is saying rest.

3.) This is my first weekend off in a month, also my bday on Monday- so birthday poker Sat, and there will be drinking and eating. I want to enjoy some time with my family and friends.

Going for a cupping massage next week. I think these are the best type of massages, and do the most to relieve soreness/muscle tension. Besides the circle hickies left all over my back, it is awesome.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Congrats on the mile marker for a life shared with a loved one! Celebrate! I never let my training get in the way of celebrating life with my loved ones…it gets in the way enough day to day.

You all are gonna have a blast!

Hope you have a great anniversary & birthday! Enjoy the massage. Is that a birthday from you to you? Or is it just a “treat yo self” situation :joy:

My hubby’s benefits covers a monthly massage! I am a lucky girl. The place I go to just started offering cupping, so that’s a treat! Male therapist though-so that’s new.

I need this insurance! The chiropractor that I visit that does ART can feel like a massage but it still cost $50 a visit for the co-pay.

$1000/year coverage per person for massage, pt, etc…both my daughters go monthly as well. Might as well use them if I got em.

I am having the most lovely weekend.

Anniversary dinner was yummy and romantic! It really is important to have date nights for us older folks, just to reconnect and remember yourselves as a couple, and not just parents and teamates.

Poker was great fun. I have more fun around my hubby’s male friends then I do with most of my girlfriends. Who am I kidding? I ended up ending a lot of toxic female relationships last year, and I have learned to spend my time with people who bring value/fun and ease to my life. Men are so much easier.

Today we are going to run around and do some stuff, yummy cherry cheescake tonight for my bday cake.

And taking a few days off was a great idea. Waking up with very little soreness, it is soooo nice!

Hope ya’ll are having a nice weekend.
